The wildly popular light novel series "Re:ZERO − Starting Life in Another World" will air its second season in July 2020. The plot is what everyone is most curious about, right? Today, I'd like to touch on it a little. While it's hard to say for sure, as cuts and alterations are possible, I'll give you a sneak preview.
What's in Season 2? New characters appearing!?
The above illustration was published along with the announcement of the second season. The front row features characters from Season 1! The new characters in the background are here! It's exciting! I'd also like to touch on the plot a little, so if you don't want spoilers, please turn back now! I won't go into too much detail, so please feel free to check it out.
What's in Season 2? The Witches of Sin
These are the Witches of Sin who appear in Re:ZERO − Starting Life in Another World. Satella, the Witch of Envy, is hidden in shadow, but the other witches have character designs. They are all scheduled to appear all at once in season 2, but we'll have to wait and see what their voices, mannerisms, and appearances will be. All of the Witches of Sin are quite strong. Of course, they are no match for Subaru. They also all have flaws in their personalities (lol). They were destroyed 400 years ago by Satella, the Witch of Envy, and their existence resides in Echidna's fantasy world. Simply put, they no longer have bodies, but their spirits remain. It is in this world of their minds that Subaru meets.
What's in store for season 2? Witch Cult
In Season 1, Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti played an active role as a Witch Cultist. Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti proves that the series is a pretty strong cast of characters (lol). Among the Witch Cult bishops, a particularly difficult character appears in Season 2. He's quirky, insane, and, above all, exceptionally talented, to the point that you might think, "Isn't it better that Petelgeuse can talk?" In the illustration, he's the boy and girl laughing to Echidna's left. She's also a key character, causing Subaru, Emilia, and the others a lot of trouble. Like Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti, she's a captivating character, so be sure to look forward to it!
What's in Season 2? Trials
One of the things to look out for in Season 2 is Echidna's school uniform! (lol) While it starts off as a school-themed story, Echidna's trials send her back in time and she reappears as Subaru's classmate. Echidna is a beautiful girl, so there are high hopes for her in a school uniform! And above all, it feels fresh as it's set in a school, so I'm sure many readers are looking forward to it being made into a movie. Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World has many dark storylines, but it's nice to have uplifting moments like this here and there! However, this uniform is also one of Echidna's trials, so she can't be too happy about it, and even though she's the enemy, it still disturbs her (lol). So please look forward to scenes like that.
What's in store for season 2? Rem won't appear!?
Readers of the light novels are probably already aware of this sad news, but Rem's appearances are quite limited in Season 2. She was the overwhelming favorite in popularity polls, even surpassing the main protagonist and heroine. If you were to cosplay as Re:ZERO − Starting Life in Another World, you'd either see Rem or Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti. Yet, she's practically asleep in Season 2 (lol). While this is likely to generate complaints, the story wouldn't progress without Rem sleeping. Because it's Rem, readers are eager to find out what happens next! While she only makes a few appearances, her presence is significant. Don't be disappointed, be sure to watch season 2!
What's in season 2? Subaru's parents appear!?
Although they don't appear often, Subaru's parents do make an appearance! Here is Subaru's father, Kenichi Natsuki, performing the fourth groundwork on Subaru after he wakes up. Watching in the background is his mother, whose name remains unrevealed. Kenichi, the father, has no qualms about saying he loves his wife and son, calls Subaru his proud son, and is always high-spirited. He seems like a strong character, doesn't he? (lol) Kenichi also has a hidden story, though it's just speculation. He's said to be Flugel, one of the heroes who sealed away Satella, the Witch of Envy. Like Subaru, he was summoned to another world and returned to the present day. This means that Subaru was summoned by mistake, and it's also said that he actually wanted his father, Kenichi, to be summoned instead. In any case, he will make a brief appearance in season 2, so keep an eye out for him!
