Weekly Shonen Magazine's wildly popular series "Rent-A-Girlfriend" finally begins airing in July 2020. Using a system that allows users to virtually experience romantic relationships with beautiful girls known as "rental girlfriends," protagonist Kazuya meets Chizuru, and from there, he encounters various beautiful girls. Here's a quick spoiler-filled look at the story! We'll reveal the events (mainly troubles) that befall Kazuya.
Restless Heartbreak Immediately After the Story Begins
At the beginning of the story, protagonist Kazuya proudly declares, "I have a girlfriend!" His girlfriend was a stunning beauty, far beyond Kazuya's wildest dreams! Naturally, Kazuya was thrilled with her first girlfriend. However, his happiness quickly ended. She broke up with him, saying, "Sorry, I've fallen in love with someone else," and Kazuya quickly broke up with her after just one month. As a result, he turned to "rental girlfriends" to fill the void of his loneliness, and that's how he met the story's main heroine, Chizuru.
Rental girlfriends are merely a way to practice acting and make money
After being dumped by his girlfriend, he decided to use "rental girlfriends." Kazuya picked a girl at random because she looked cute from her profile picture, but he thought "it'll probably end up being an ugly girl," and instead, a beautiful girl just like her profile picture appeared before him. Kazuya was excited, but before the date, there were some administrative procedures to be done...money was exchanged. However, Kazuya thoroughly enjoyed the date and was very satisfied. When he got home and looked up Chizuru, he found that many users had given her rave reviews, which made him furious, saying "it was all an act," and he used Chizuru as a rental girlfriend again, complaining to vent his frustration.
The Two Sides of Mizuhara Chizuru
Chizuru, who appears as a "rental girlfriend," is acting to portray the perfect girlfriend, and her personality is that of a beautiful, "good-natured and modest" girl that Kazuya likes. However, when Kazuya starts to complain at length in public about the rental girlfriend's methods, Chizuru shows her true colors and fights back. She yells at Kazuya, blaming him when he takes her to a secluded place. Kazuya, on the other hand, has no rebuttal... (Since Kazuya was generally in the wrong), he ends up feeling remorseful after being yelled at.
Kazuya and Chizuru's Grandmother Will Do Anything to Get Kazuya and Chizuru Together
Chizuru and Kazuya's relationship was merely that of a rental girlfriend and customer, but things became complicated when Kazuya impulsively introduced Chizuru to his grandmother as his "girlfriend." His grandmother, Kazuya, took a deep liking to Chizuru, calling her "Princess Chizuru" and trying to further their relationship, and constantly telling Kazuya to call Chizuru. Chizuru's grandmother is also friends with Kazuya, and supports their relationship. Chizuru's only remaining relative is her grandmother, so Kazuya is asked by her grandmother, who is hospitalized, to look after Chizuru. Kazuya and Chizuru share a common devotion to their grandmother, and the situation becomes increasingly complicated with each passing day.
Kazuya's ex-girlfriend, Nanami Asami, is so cunning it's almost scary.
Kazuya introduces Asami as his girlfriend at the beginning of the story. On the surface, she appears to be a cute, beautiful girl who socializes well and is well-liked by everyone. However, she's actually quite devious... She originally dated Kazuya because "anyone would have done," and even though she broke up with him because she didn't care about him, when she saw him with his new girlfriend (Chizuru), she assumed it was a way to get back at her and secretly tried every trick in the book to break up with him. Her methods are quite insidious, going out of her way to call Chizuru on Rental Girlfriend and trying to find out more about Kazuya's grandmother through social media, making her a real nuisance for Kazuya and his friends.
The other rental girlfriend declares herself the real girlfriend!?
One day, Kazuya goes on a double date with a classmate and brings Chizuru along. The friend's girlfriend turns up, a beautiful girl who, like Kazuya, is clearly out of place. I'm sure most readers realized at a glance that she was a rental girlfriend (lol), but she was indeed a rental girlfriend. After a terrible first encounter with Kazuya, Ruka continued to suspect Chizuru was a rental girlfriend and showed hostility toward her. However, after Kazuya saved her after she fell down the stairs, her attitude gradually softened. Eventually, she falls in love with Kazuya, seeing him as someone who makes her heart flutter, and quits her job as a rental girlfriend, declaring herself his girlfriend in front of Chizuru.
Chizuru's Request for a Rental Girlfriend
One day, Chizuru suddenly makes an unexpected request: "I'd like you to be a practice partner for a junior rental girlfriend." However, she hears that this junior rental girlfriend is extremely shy and receives many complaints from customers. Kazuya is selected as a practice partner to help her overcome her shyness, but she's extremely shy! Even normal conversation was impossible, and Kazuya thought she was an "incompatible rental girlfriend." In the midst of all this, Kazuya unfortunately bumped into his ex-girlfriend, Asami. He tried to calm the situation, but Sumi-chan's desperate attempt to impress her made the situation even more complicated.
"Mizuhara Chizuru" at University is "Ichinose Chizuru"
Chizuru is a rental girlfriend who works under the name "Mizuhara Chizuru," but her real name is "Ichinose Chizuru." She dresses modestly to hide her beautiful aura from her rental girlfriend days. She braids her hair, wears glasses to make her eyes look smaller, and generally lives a low-key life at university. She manages to completely erase that aura, and even when the guys see "Ichinose Chizuru," they don't react at all! As you'd expect from an actress, her acting is flawless. The only thing she can't hide is her large breasts (lol).
