This time, I'll be introducing a ranking of manga that are so manly that even men will roar! They don't require deep thought! They're so satisfying! They're so cool! I've collected manga like that. For some reason, I get so excited watching the protagonist fight so relentlessly, and I think I've read the most of this genre in terms of sheer numbers. Please give them a read when you have some free time.
Completed Battle Manga #10: Hana no Keiji
This work depicts the life of the protagonist, Maeda Keiji, as a samurai warrior. Keiji is simply awesome. Even losing battles are the best part of fighting! The series is filled with many famous quotes, such as "I'm a jerk," that make your own troubles seem small. Love is also a theme, and the story depicts the love he has for those around him. Historical figures like Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu also appear, making it a good choice for studying history. Hideyoshi is a muscular man, but...
Completed Battle Manga #9: Golgo 13
This is a timeless masterpiece that depicts the flawless work of a professional assassin, and can be read at any time, starting from any volume. I don't even know how many volumes there are in total, but it's a timeless masterpiece. In fact, many of the stories are based on historical events, and the author's unique perspective can be seen at times. No one should stand behind Golgo.
Completed Battle Manga #8: Baki Series
The first volume includes some martial arts trivia, giving the impression that it's a sports manga, but it's not quite that simple. It's a father-son quarrel, but the lead-up to it is a fierce battle. Characters based on Baba and Ali also make an interesting appearance. It starts with the protagonist taking part in a karate tournament, but before you know it, he's fighting an imaginary praying mantis and even reviving dinosaurs. It's a work that lets him do whatever he wants. Among them, my recommendation is Kaoru Hanayama. If I ask a girl what her favorite manga is and she says Baki, I'll be a little intimidated.
Completed Battle Manga #7: Rurouni Kenshin
The Meiji Restoration marked the end of the samurai era. Battousai, who had been working as an assassin, put down his sword and began wielding it for peace. However, he finds himself surrounded by trouble. He resolves each and every one of them with force, one way or another. While Kenshin, who has vowed to kill his enemies, ponders how he can bring peace and smiles to those around him, the story is also purely focused on the cool fighting scenes.
Completed Battle Manga #6: Fist of the North Star
Kenshiro, the heir to the Hokuto Shinken, fights every day out of love. Yuria, the woman he loved, is kidnapped. The Battle of the North Star begins in order to rescue her. Rereading the manga, it's fairly grotesque, but it's a classic battle manga. Raoh's final words, "I have no regrets in my life," are also famous.
Completed Battle Manga #5: Shaman King
This is the story of Asakura Yoh, the protagonist, on his quest to defeat Hao in the Shaman Fight and become the Shaman King. As he faces off against insane allies and enemies in the Shaman Fight, he gradually becomes stronger. What's a little different is that there are quite a few characters who are stronger than Yoh until the very end. When Super Saiyan-like elements were introduced, like characters becoming stronger after dying and coming back to life, I thought, "Are you kidding me?" And at the final chapter, I even thought, "Wait, is that how it ends?" But that's okay. It's a battle manga after all!
Completed Battle Manga #4: Basilisk
This work depicts a ninja showdown between the Koga and Iga clans. However, it also tells the heartbreaking story of a love affair between the Koga and Iga master carpenters. As the ninja showdown progresses, the village's ninja population gradually dwindles. Who will win, and what will become of their love? This is a passionate work worthy of its art style. Of course, the battles are also cool, so don't worry!
Completed Battle Manga #3: Crows
This might be the greatest delinquent manga ever. What's great about it is that the battles are realistic and not chaotic, and there are almost no characters suddenly becoming stronger or rising to power. The Worst, which follows Crows, is also a masterpiece, but Crows is the best. Who will conquer Suzuran? The characters fight with their friends, but also forge friendships. A truly wonderful delinquent manga.
Completed Battle Manga #2: Dragon Ball
When it comes to battle manga, Dragon Ball is the first. But did you know that Dragon Ball was actually Jump's comedy slot? The comedy slot included characters like "Jaguar-san" and "Amazing Masaru-san." Apparently, the initial page count was limited. Indeed, there were plenty of gags in the early stages of the story. I often hear that Toriyama considered ending the series many times, but Jump wouldn't let him. I don't know if that's actually true, though.
Completed Battle Manga #1: Fist of the Blue Sky
The successor of the Hokuto Shinken, two generations before Kenshiro, who appeared in Fist of the North Star. It seems that fighting is always a part of the successor of the Hokuto Shinken. Written much later than Fist of the North Star, and although it was overseen by the original author, the atmosphere is quite different. The illustrations are simply beautiful. As always, people continue to die one after another. It's still a story of this era, driven by love. It may be less well-known than Fist of the North Star, but I highly recommend giving it a read!
Completed Battle Manga: Finally
After all, battle manga is so satisfying to read! I prefer stories where the protagonist gets stronger through battle, rather than stories where the protagonist is already the strongest. Many of the stories on this ranking are like that. Please give them a read when you have time!
