The original TV anime "Pon's Michi" is a slice-of-life story about high school girls and mahjong. It is scheduled to air in January of next year, and a comic book version has been serialized ahead of the broadcast, which has been generating a lot of buzz. The series features a variety of characters, including the main character, Topensha Nashiko, but which character do you think is the cutest? In this article, I would like to present a ranking of the cutest characters, along with my own thoughts! Read on and try to guess the rankings yourself!

Synopsis

Nashiko Topensha is a high school girl living in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Having trouble finding a place to hang out with friends, she discovers that the mahjong parlor her father used to run is now vacant. Nashiko, along with her friends Kawahigashi Pai and Tokutomi Izumi, decide to turn the playground into a place where everyone can play. The story follows Nashiko and her friends as they enjoy tea, cooking, and even playing mahjong.

3rd Place: Kawahigashi Pai

Ranked third is Kawahigashi Pai. A childhood friend of the protagonist, Tohensha Nashiko, she seems to know all the rules of mahjong. She has blonde hair that's almost white, and a distinctive bob cut. The black ribbons on both sides add a stylish touch. She exudes a ladylike aura similar to Hayashi Riece, but we don't yet know what kind of family background she comes from. Her demeanor and attire suggest she's gentle, but as you can see in the image, she's also seen enjoying herself as she devotes herself to mahjong, a contrast that's adorable. I can't wait to see her shining-eyed devotion to mahjong in the anime!

2nd Place: Emi Haneru

Ranked second is Emi Haneru. Of all the characters, she's the one who takes mahjong the most seriously. Frustrated after losing to Nashiko and her friends in an online mahjong match, he comes back to his former mahjong parlor. He looks like a band member and dresses in a punk style. His hair has red mesh in places, his nails are painted black, and he even has animal ear-like ornaments on his head. He gives off the impression of being a little unapproachable, but in fact, even though Nashiko and her friends tease him, he is positioned as a lovable character. The contrast with his appearance and his love of mahjong also enhances the cuteness of the character Enimi Tobi.

1st Place: Jippensha Nashiko

Ranked in the honorable first place is the protagonist, Jippensha Nashiko. She's a very energetic character who charges ahead with determination once she's made up her mind. Her bright eyes and lively expressions are captivating. Unlike Kawato Pai and Emimi Jun, she's truly a person who lives up to her appearance. Her drive to create a playground where everyone can gather is also admirable. Perhaps she'll find a job in the future that allows her to demonstrate leadership. By the way, the surname Toppensha is the same as that of Toppensha Ikku, a writer from the late Edo period. Toppensha Ikku is said to be the first person to earn a living solely through his writing career. In other words, he was the first "full-time writer." This is purely my speculation, but sharing the same surname as such a talented historical figure means that Nashiko may actually have a hidden talent for mahjong. Nashiko is a beginner at mahjong, but once she gets used to it and learns the rules, we may see her talent blossom.

Cute Character Rankings

Did any of your favorite characters make the list? Since this is an original anime series with no source material, I created this ranking based on their appearance and character introductions on the website. When the series begins airing in January next year, I expect to see a variety of different sides to the characters. The rankings may change depending on that. I'm looking forward to the anime! That's all for today. Thank you for reading.
