Plunderer, a battle fantasy currently being serialized in Monthly Shonen Ace, will be adapted into an anime starting in winter 2020. One of the characters that stands out more is the secondary protagonist...or you could even say almost the protagonist: Jail Murdog, a handsome, strict, bespectacled man. He initially appears as the protagonist's enemy, but halfway through the story, it's no exaggeration to say that the story unfolds around the three characters - protagonist Licht, heroine Hina, and Jail. We'd like to introduce you to one of the main characters, Jail!
Handsome, strict, bespectacled Lieutenant in the Alcia Kingdom Army, "Jail Mardog"
The commander of the problematic unit "Gefennings" in the Alcia Kingdom Army. His rank is lieutenant. Silver-haired and bespectacled, he is a strict soldier who initially appears in pursuit of the protagonist, Licht, who is wanted by the police. He is earnest, strict, and has a strong sense of justice. While he is loyal to his beliefs, he can also be inflexible, which has earned him admirers within the military, while also irritating others.
A Man I've Seen Somewhere
He resembles Eijiro Morigata, the secondary protagonist of the previous work, Sora no Otoshimono...or rather, it seems like he's made to look like him intentionally. The main character, Licht, also resembles someone, so this could be some kind of star system.
A Man of Conviction: Jail Mardog
He is an officer of the kingdom and possesses the Ballot. His ability allows him to freely create and manipulate iron, which may be easier to understand if you imagine his fighting style as reminiscent of Fullmetal Alchemist. The strength of his convictions increases or decreases the strength of the iron. His Count is the "number of times he has stuck to his convictions." Despite his high rank, he does not leave it entirely to his subordinates; instead, he personally takes on the task of capturing criminals. Furthermore, he does not want to be restricted from moving freely and does not want to be promoted, so he usually keeps his Count low.
A Stoic Man
With his diligent and stoic personality, Jail is not only skilled, but also a hard worker who excels in military-style hand-to-hand combat. He's strong enough to stop a rampaging Licht, making him one of the strongest characters in the series. However, he's no match for Alan, his foster father, former instructor, and ace pilot. However, he also possesses the inner strength to never back down.
Jael Mardog's Troop of Problem Children, the "Gefennings"
While many of the Alcia Royal Army's most powerful members are prone to personality disorders, some are so problematic that they would likely have become criminals if not for Jael's help. As a result, these members do not follow the Royal Army as a whole, but only Jael personally. When Jael was expelled from the army, they disappeared at the same time, and later rebelled against the Royal Army together with Jael.
Problem Child #1: Lieutenant Asel
A sexy and slightly sick girl. She possesses the nasty ability to create honey that melts on contact, dissolving people to the bone. Her personality seems a bit broken, but she is enamored with Jail. She is one of the most powerful people in Gefennings.
Problem Child No. 2: Lieutenant Sakuragi
A small, gentle-looking man. However, he possesses incredible firepower, enough to bring down an airship in an instant. He hates nothing more than having his bald head seen from above, so he has no mercy on anyone above him. He's scary when he reveals his true nature.
Problem Child #3: The Child Who Can't Give Her Name
At first glance, she appears to be a normal girl and a Gefennings Balancer, but in reality, she's a personality disordered person who joined the military because it allowed her to kill people legally. She missed the opportunity to give her name, so she's not allowed to. For some reason, she seems to like Jail.
Another main character: Jail Murdog
While he may seem like a rival to the main character, Licht, he is the character closest to the reader's perspective in the prequel arc, making him essentially the main character. Knowing Licht's past and working to change it, Jail is truly a key character, and the story moves forward as Jail and his friends learn what happened in the past.
"Jail Murdog" has absolutely no tolerance for women.
Jail is a handsome, innocent character who is well-liked by many female characters, but he himself has absolutely no tolerance for women. In order to catch a peeping criminal, the women set a trap by switching the curtains between the men's and women's baths, but before the curtains can be replaced, Jail enters the women's bath (the curtains are in the men's). Despite this, Jail continues bathing as if nothing had happened, forcing Rean, who happens to be there, to face reality.
It didn't work after all
Jail doesn't even flinch when he sees a naked woman, and just walks out of the bath. However, in reality, he has no resistance to women, and collapses from a nosebleed the moment he steps out of the changing room. His pride may not have allowed him to collapse from a nosebleed in the women's bath, but he ultimately faces punishment despite having done nothing wrong.
Aleksandrov Glikorovich, Jail Murdog's adoptive father
Aleksandrov Glikorovich, the head of the Arsia Kingdom military, is Jail Murdog's stepfather, and as a result, some in the military believe he is riding on his father's coattails. In fact, his father is quite overprotective.
A legendary instructor who taught Jail in the past and one of the most successful pilots in history
He also lived 300 years ago, and as his name suggests, he was an officer in the Russian military. He was feared as a strict instructor for Licht and Jail, but when the military academy became a battlefield, he risked his life to protect his students, and the scar on his face was sustained during that battle. Furthermore, he was one of the most successful pilots in the war 300 years ago, earning him the nickname "The Ace of Bombing."
[Plunderer] Jail Mardog Summary
Jail is a particularly important character in Plunderer, and his exploits are one of the highlights of the series. He can also be considered a secondary protagonist in the previous series, Sora no Otoshimono, so I recommend this series to fans of Sora no Otoshimono. While it's unclear whether pants will fly in the story, there are many reasons to look forward to the anime. Plunderer will begin airing in winter 2020!
