The Other World Picnic is a work based on urban legends on the Internet, so-called netlore. The protagonists who step into the realm of netlore, known as the underworld, encounter near death, solve mysteries about strange happenings, and go on a search for treasures and people. It is a sci-fi horror urban legend. The characters of "Other World Picnic", which will be animated from January 2021, are summarized here!
Character 1: Kamikoshi Sorao
A female college student with glasses who attends a university in Saitama Prefecture. She happened to be going back and forth to the underworld from an abandoned house near Omiya Station, but on her third exploration she encountered "Kunekune" and nearly lost her mind, but was rescued by Nishina Toriko who happened to be passing by and was safe. After that, she started going back and forth to the underworld with Toriko from a different entrance.
Sorao has a deep knowledge of netlore
It was her hobby of exploring ruins that led her to have a deep knowledge of netlore and become involved in the underworld, including Kunekune and Hasshaku-sama. Meta-wise, she is an explainer for readers who are not particularly familiar with netlore. Perhaps due to her escapist thinking and lack of confidence in herself, she is often drawn into the supernatural, but she is often able to overcome the situation with Toriko's support, knowledge, and quick thinking. Her encounter with Kunekune made her a fourth-type contact, and her right eye turned blue, giving her the ability to recognize the existence of supernaturals and synchronize it with reality. Since then, she has been hiding her discolored eye with colored contact lenses.
Sorao has had a lot going on in her past
She is a gloomy, glasses-wearing shy girl, but the reason behind this is that after her mother died in an accident, her family became obsessed with a cult, which tore her family apart, and she was almost kidnapped by the religious group, so she ran away from home repeatedly to explore ruins in order to escape that environment. Perhaps because of this, even though she is shy and easily scared, she has a certain courage, and although she lowers her SAN value, she creates opportunities to repel monsters, and she has visited the underworld many times, so although she may appear weak, she is actually a character with inner strength.
Character No. 2: Nishina Toriko
A blonde woman who Sora Kamikoshi meets in the underworld, and Sora says she is extremely beautiful. Her parents are Canadian soldiers who have already passed away, and she has repeatedly immersed herself in the underworld in search of her former partner in exploring the underworld, Urumma Saetsuki, who is currently missing. After meeting Sora, she becomes Sora's partner and they explore the underworld together. She is very proactive and leads the passive Sora, but she also makes him do things on impulse.
Nishina Toriko, a Violator of the Sword and Firearms Act
Her parents are former soldiers and she seems to have learned how to use firearms overseas, so when she explores the underworld, she brings along a Makarov. Of course, this is against the Sword and Firearms Act in Japan, but it seems that she has some hidden in the underworld. When she encounters a supernatural being, she acts as a stopper for Sorao, who understands mythical beings too much and reaches a point where she can't go back. In addition, when she comes into contact with Kunekune, she becomes a fourth-class contact and part of her left hand becomes transparent. With that left hand, she can capture the insubstantial supernatural beings of the underworld, but she wears gloves in the real world because she stands out in the real world.
Toriko, who has had a lot going on in the past
She seems to be dependent on her tutor and former partner, Uruma Saetsuki, and visits the underworld in search of the missing Saetsuki. Although she appears cheerful and sociable at first glance, she is actually not good at interacting with others and has almost no friends. Although she appears to be an active and strong-willed woman, she is actually a character with inner fragility.
Character No. 3: Kozakura
A woman who lives in a mansion and stays in her room day and night conducting research related to the underworld. She looks so young that she is mistaken for an elementary school student, but she is actually older than Sorao and Toriko. She does not appear to employ servants, and seems to live her life rarely leaving her room, which is filled with a large amount of materials. She buys items that Toriko and her friends find in the underworld, and has enough financial resources to easily hand out millions in cash.
Former Partner of Uruma Saetsuki
Originally, he had been to the underworld several times as Uruma Saetsuki's partner, but he retired because he could not bear the fear. He says that he has a genetic short serotonin transporter and is easily scared, meaning that he is very easily scared, so he was very reluctant to go to the underworld. He was a joint researcher with Saetsuki, but after Kozakura refused to go to the underworld because of her fear, Saetsuki began to go to the underworld with a new partner.
Character #4: Uruma Satsuki
A woman who is a co-researcher of Kozakura and was formerly the partner of Nishina Toriko. She is tall with long black hair. She wears glasses and disappeared in the underworld three months ago and is currently missing. She used to explore the underworld with Kozakura, but when Kozakura retired, she scouted Nishina Toriko and made her her new partner. While she seems to be a charming person and skilled at winning people over, she can also be seen as someone who involves her partners in exploring the dangerous underworld, so she seems to have an empress-like character who will do anything to get what she wants.
Character No. 5: Ribudo
A man who Sorao and Toriko met in the underworld. In order to search for his missing wife, he was obsessed with the existence of the underworld. He is mentally unstable due to his wife's disappearance and his belief that the existence of the underworld is interfering with the real world. When he encounters Hasshaku-sama, he shows her an illusion and disappears somewhere.
Character No. 6: US military soldiers in Japan
A US military soldier in Japan who Sorao and Toriko met when they accidentally entered the other world. The whole unit came to the other world during training in the mountains. He was captured by the monsters at Kisaragi Station and became very nervous after witnessing bear traps, cow monsters, and colleagues who had lost their minds.
