Have you heard of the popular serialized manga "Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga"? This work, with its impactful title, is actually slowly gaining attention. It's especially garnering attention now that it's been decided that it will be adapted into an anime series starting in 2020. The story centers around the famous former general, Oda Nobunaga, who has been reincarnated as a dog?! He is kept as a pet by a high school girl. While this alone sounds intriguing, "Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga" actually has a hidden charm that can't be fully explained in a few words! In this article, we'll introduce the appeal of "Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga." If you haven't read the original yet, be sure to check it out!

Charm #1 of the work☆A must-read for history buffs! Featuring many famous generals!

Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga

"Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga" begins with the scene of the Honnoji Incident. The Honnoji Incident is a well-known historical event. Oda Nobunaga committed suicide amid the burning Honnoji Temple. "Is this the end...?" Nobunaga muttered. While he did not achieve unification of the country, his turbulent life was one in which he would use any means to achieve his goals. Nobunaga once said, "I'll probably be reduced to a dog in the next life..." But he himself was the most surprised to actually be reincarnated as a dog.

It's not just Nobunaga! All the famous generals have been reincarnated as dogs!?

Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga

In fact, Nobunaga wasn't the only one to be reincarnated as a dog! While visiting the dog park with his owner, Nobunaga encounters some of the famous generals who once shared his history. There, they include Takeda Shingen, Date Masamune, Kuroda Kanbei, Imagawa Yoshimoto, and others, all in the form of dogs... Each retains a little bit of their former appearance, perfectly retaining their memories of their past lives! Nobunaga was most surprised by this.

Appeal #2 of the Series☆They're So Cute! The dogs' movements are heartwarming.

dog

Even though these men were once famous generals, strong, and intimidating, they are now dogs. And what's more, they're incredibly cute. The strangeness of their appearances (even the dogs themselves feel it) is amusing, but their movements are incredibly heartwarming.

The "dog" instinct...!

The dog instinct is evident in Nobunaga, who enjoys walks to the fullest, Nobunaga who digs holes with fervor, and more... Since they were originally dogs, the characters themselves are often quite curious about their own habits, even expressing their genuine wonder at what it means to be a dog, which is both surreal and adorable. Since each dog is a completely different breed, their personalities are naturally quite varied, which is great. This is a work I highly recommend to dog lovers.

Charm #3 of the Work☆The Gags Make You Chuckle

"Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga" is a comedy manga. The gags thrown in here and there will have you chuckling. What's even more amusing is how earnest the characters (Nobunaga and his friends) are! They're always earnest and giving their all, but the slightly silly moments they can have as dogs are both adorable and funny.

Nobunaga longs for a shampoo hat! However...

Shampoo Hat

Mistaking the "shampoo hat" for the frilly neckwear worn by the Southern Barbarians, Nobunaga makes the huge mistake of thinking it's the latest fashion and cool. He was thrilled when his owner, Ichiko, bought it for him. However, when he found out it was actually a bathing device, which he hated, and since it wasn't made for dogs, water kept getting into his ears, leaving him feeling quite disappointed.

Nobunaga's sword complains...

katana

Ichiko and her friends were playing a parody of "Touken Ranbu" called "Kendo Enbu." The game involved collecting and cultivating swords, and one day, Yoshimoto Samonji (a male personification of the character) appeared in the game, muttering, "Die, Oda Nobunaga!" Ichiko remembered that she had a Samonji herself, and seemed quite surprised, asking, "Why would someone say that to me!?" The Yoshimoto Samonji, once a tachi, had been shortened and polished into a katana by Oda Nobunaga. Nobunaga, realizing that this was the cause, seemed quite conflicted. Nobunaga was also subjected to constant comments from other swords, such as "his feet stink"... how unfortunate. However, "Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga" is not only charming because of its cute dog and funny gags, but also because it incorporates historical trivia.

Charm #4 of the Series☆The Voice Actors Are Incredibly Awesome!

Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga

In fact, one of the attractions of the anime "Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga" is the impressive voice cast. It features Kenyu Horiuchi, Toshio Furukawa, Tetsuaki Genda, and Kazuhiko Inoue. From Tomokazu Sugita to Takahiro Sakurai, Kenichi Suzumura, and even Maaya Sakamoto... It's amazing to see such a stellar cast of voice actors in one anime! They're all veterans, making this a must-see for history buffs, dog fans, and even voice acting fans alike.

It's interesting that they're all treated like "new voice actors"!

Voice Actor

Even though they're all veterans, it's interesting to note that they're actually treated as "new voice actors" in "Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga." Horiuchi Kenyuu will be playing Horiuchi Inutomo, and Furukawa Toshio will be playing Inukawa Toshio. Inugami Kazuhiko, Sakurainu Takahiro, Suzumura Inuichi, and Sakainu Maaya are all set to be "different people" from the characters themselves! All of the voice actors are new (?) with "dog" in their names, and they've made fresh comments like "I'll do my best!" and "This is my debut!" Incidentally, Sugita Tomokazu's name is "Sugita Naoji," but it turns out "Naoji" is actually the dog he keeps at his parents' house! Apparently, he and the dog end up synchronizing (?). There are so many things to point out, and I'm really looking forward to it even before it airs.

Appeal of the show #5☆Learn history while having fun!

Skull

When you hear the word "history," many people may think, "It sounds like something stuffy..." However, "Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga" is a work I highly recommend to those people! After all, all the characters are dogs! The fact that these cute dogs are famous generals is heartwarming enough, but the historical trivia that pops up throughout the story will have you saying, "Wow!" It's great to be able to learn about history while having fun. In addition to "Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga," other popular anime that teach history include "Neko Neko Nihonshi."

What is "Neko Neko Nihonshi"?

Neko Neko

"Neko Neko Nihonshi" is a TV anime. It's also based on a manga, but historical figures appear as adorable cats! This one is set in a historical setting, and follows the flow of history more than "Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga," focusing on knowledge. However, since all the characters are cats, it's a heartwarming and soothing anime. Many of the cats from the "Shinsengumi," popular among history buffs, also make an appearance! Fans of "Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga" will surely enjoy this anime. If you're interested, be sure to check it out!
