This science fiction anime was originally created by GAINAX and directed by Anno Hideaki.
A total of 26 episodes aired on TV Tokyo (TNX) from October 4, 1995 to March 27, 1996. The manga version preceded the anime, beginning with its February 1995 issue in Monthly Shonen Ace. Because the manga began first, many people believe the original work is the manga, but it is in fact the anime. A remake titled "Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo" aired from 2007 to 2009, and is planned to consist of four parts.
This work depicts the battle between 14-year-old boys and girls who become Evangelion pilots and the "Angels," with an emphasis on portraying emotions such as the relationships and various conflicts that arise. In this article, we'd like to introduce the "First Impact," which is what began it all.
The Evangelion Worldview Based on the Old Testament
In the Old Testament, Adam was created first, and then Eve, who was created afterward, ate the "fruit of the knowledge of good and evil" and offered it to Adam. After eating the "fruit of the knowledge of good and evil," God banished them from the Garden of Eden for fear they might also eat the "tree of life."
In the world of Evangelion, the story begins when someone (an intelligent life form that already existed in the universe) sowed the "fruit of life" and the "fruit of knowledge" into space, which then washed up on Earth.
The "Fruit of Life" is Adam's egg, also known as the "White Moon," and the "Fruit of Knowledge" is Lilith's egg, also known as the "Black Moon."
Were they originally supposed to wash ashore one at a time?!
Originally, one egg was supposed to wash ashore on each planet, but two eggs ended up washing ashore on Earth. First, Adam's egg, the "White Moon," fell to Earth's Antarctic. Adam, the first angel of the "Fruit of Life," gave birth to the third through seventeenth angels. The "White Moon" also contained the Dead Sea Scrolls, which SEELE later discovered during excavations, revealing the origins of humanity. The Dead Sea Scrolls contain passages predicting the arrival of the Angels, and SEELE based its Human Instrumentality Project on these predictions. The line "according to SEELE's scenario" refers to a prophecy found in the Dead Sea Scrolls.
The "Black Moon" Caused the First Impact
After the other Angels were born from the First Angel, Adam, the "Black Moon," Lilith's egg, fell to Hakone, Earth (later known as Tokyo-3). This collision between Earth and the meteorite is known as the "First Impact." The impact of this explosion also puts the First Angel Adam and the other Angels to sleep.
Before the Angels Awaken...
While the Katsuragi Investigation Team, led by Misato's father, was investigating the First Angel Adam, a mysterious massive explosion occurred. This is now known as the Second Impact. However, in reality, it was caused by Seele during the process of using the Lance of Longinus to return Adam to his egg state before the Angels who had fallen asleep in the First Impact were awakened.
Humanity, or the Lilim, was born through the First Impact.
After the "Fruit of Knowledge" of the Second Angel, Lilith, washed ashore on Earth, she gave birth to the 18th Angel, the Lilim (humanity). The fact that humanity is an Angel is also evident from Misato's line in the original film "Air: The End of the Angels": "Shinji, we humans are the 18th Angels, born from the same source of life called Lilith as Adam."
It all began here: A clear explanation of the First Impact
This concludes the explanation of the First Impact.
There are many details that were not explained in the anime, and there are many theories about them.
There may be mysteries that will be solved by watching the entire new movie, so I can't wait for it to be released.
