"Machikado Mazoku" is a four-panel manga serialized in "Manga Time Kirara Carat." The story follows Yoshida Yuko (Shamiko), an ordinary high school girl who suddenly awakens to the powers of the demon race, as she is given a mission and takes on various battles. However, there are no major battles, and the work has a strong slice-of-life element. The second season is scheduled to air in April of this year, attracting attention. Before watching the second season, we'd like to explain more about the main character, Shamiko!
What is "Machikado Mazoku" about?
Yuko Yoshida, a normal high school girl, was born poor and sickly. One day, she awakened to the powers of a "witch" of the Dark Clan. Her mother informed her of her witch bloodline and bestowed upon her the stage name Shamiko. Furthermore, her ancestor commanded her to defeat the shrine maiden of the Light Clan. She then met fellow magical girl Momo Chiyoda, and through repeated battles, she discovered that Shamiko and Momo share a bond dating back to their predecessors, and that various events were connected by a single thread. After learning of their bond, Shamiko and Momo decide to work together to maintain peace while living their daily lives.
Shamiko's Profile
The protagonist. Originally a high school girl named Yuko Yoshida, she is sickly and comes from a poor family. She is petite, standing at 145cm tall, with wavy reddish-brown hair. While she's not good at studying or sports, she is a diligent and hard-working person. However, she is often quite clumsy and ends up failing, and is often heard saying, "Don't think you've won yet."
The Origin of the Name "Shamiko"
One day, she suddenly awakened to the power of the Dark Clan, growing horns and a tail. Her mother then bestowed upon her a special name for her activities as a witch. The name she was given was "Shadow Mistress Yuko." However, because it was a long and difficult name to pronounce, those around her began to shorten it to "Shamiko."
How strong is she as a witch?
Although she became a witch, she didn't become particularly strong. She even had a hard time challenging the magical girl Chiyoda Momo to a fight, and was no match for her. For some reason, she later became friends with Momo, and she ended up owing her a lot of favors after being helped by her in various situations. Her gentle nature, far from that of a witch, makes her unable to hurt others, and she is trusted by many. She also has a pacifist side, and wishes for everyone to get along.
What are Shamiko's abilities?
Shamiko belongs to a tribe known as the Dream Tribe. She has the ability to enter the consciousness of living and non-living things, exploiting their weaknesses and manipulating them. This ability can be extremely powerful if misused, and can be used in a variety of ways, such as to incite those who have entered. However, due to her personality as mentioned above, Shamiko herself is unable to think of ways to misuse it, and feels guilty and unsure whether it is really okay to use it. After forming a cooperative relationship with Momo, she decides to use her powers for her own purposes of justice and begins to utilize them.
What is Shamiko like in battle mode?
When Shamiko enters battle mode, she transforms into a combat costume called the "Crisis Management Form." She transforms by shouting "Crisis Management!!" and her physical abilities increase slightly. The highly revealing design leaves witnesses unsure where to look, and Shamiko herself worries about what others think of her. While the design can be subtly altered, sometimes the emphasis on minimizing exposure can make the costume heavy and cause it to sink into the ground, making it difficult to focus on combat.
What exactly does "It's Shamiko's fault" mean?
Have you ever heard the line, "It's Shamiko's fault." Even if you're not familiar with "Machikado Mazoku," some may know the line. In fact, it's not actually spoken in the series. It never appears in either the original manga or the anime. It's a phrase invented online and is known as an internet meme. It became popular as a line that Momo Chiyoda, based on her character, would say. It's merely a line Momo might say; it's not something she actually said. Incidentally, there's also the line "Shamiko isn't bad," which doesn't actually appear in the story.
