Announced as a project to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Legend of Mana, the anime adaptation of the game's Legend of Mana was given the names Shiloh for the male protagonist and Seraphina for the female protagonist. It seems that the characters have also been given new settings such as their personalities. This time, I would like to introduce the two protagonists in relation to the original work!
The protagonists' names are Shiloh and Seraphina! What was it like in the original work?
When LoM was adapted into an anime, the names Shiloh and Seraphina were given, but in fact, the names given in the smartphone app "Legend of Mana" were used as is. The default name in the original is "YOU", but if you choose a name with AUTO, you will get names you've heard somewhere, such as Gemma, Bogard, Randy, Hawkeye, Hero King, and Death Man.
Newly added settings! What kind of personality does the protagonist have?
The character introduction on the official website describes Shilo as kind-hearted, full of a sense of justice, and caring. Seraphina is cheerful and sociable. In the original, the protagonist hardly speaks, and conversations are only through options. The protagonist is a type similar to Dragon Quest, where the player is left to decide her personality and what actions she will take.
Therefore, the protagonist of the original work is more like a third party controlled by the player than the main character of the story, and the impression of a third party involved in each episode is very strong. It was up to the player to decide whether he would be kind, cold-hearted, or a carefree guy.
The original "Escade Arc" and "Dragon Killer Arc" are also related
The anime is based on the episode called the Jewel Thief Arc, but in addition to this, the original work also has two major episodes called the "Escade Arc" and the "Dragon Killer Arc". In the Escade arc, you can choose to support either Escade or Danae, or neither, and kill the character who doesn't support you. In the Dragon Killer arc, you clear an episode in which you go around killing dragons that protect the world order. Given these events, I think the image of the protagonist's personality being pure and easily influenced by anything, for better or worse, is perfect, unlike the setting in the anime.
Stop it, give it to me
There are other elements of the protagonist being influenced by anything, and there is a baby bird named P-chan at the inn in the town of Domina. He is physically weak and asks to be left alone, but if you keep talking to him, he will shatter into pieces. If you do that, there is a famous event where P-chan's roommate says, "You're not human. You're a demon." Also, when trying to save a frivolous playboy who has turned to stone, if you choose the wrong option, you will fail, and the character of the protagonist is often left to the player's choice.
There are two protagonists this time!? What kind of development will it be?
In the original LoM, the protagonist is chosen to be either male or female, and the one who was not chosen will not appear. In the PS version, there is a system that allows you to take a character with you as an NPC or 2P from a different data source, but this does not affect the story, and is not possible in the remaster. With the two main characters now involved in the story, it is expected that there will be changes from the original.
Will it cover all the developments that change depending on the choices?
In fact, in LoM, the story changes significantly depending on the choices you make, and the characters that become your companions change. There are also cases where you will never be able to recruit a character that you did not choose in another episode. In the jewel thief arc, which is an episode in the anime, the story changes slightly depending on whether you act with Ruri or with Princess Shinju (you can ignore both depending on the scenario). Since there are two main characters, it may be that one of them acts with Ruri and the other with Princess Shinju.
Shiloh is equipped with a sword and Seraphina with a spear!
Looking at the pictures on the anime's official website, Shiloh is equipped with a sword and Seraphina is equipped with a spear. In the original work, the main character chooses the weapon they will use at the beginning, but they can freely change the type of weapon. However, even in the original design drawings, the male main character has a sword and the female main character has a spear. Apparently, originally, the initial setting was that the weapon could not be changed from the one chosen at the beginning, but this is a remnant of a later change.
Things the protagonists are likely to do in their own homes
In the original work, the protagonist can do a lot of things in his home, his base. There are many things you can do in your own home, and that may be depicted in the anime. It has been confirmed that Bud, Corona, and Cactus, who are staying with the protagonists, will appear, so there may be some episodes with the three of them.
Pet Farm
After acquiring a monster chick, you can raise it on the farm and take it with you. The monster that becomes a pet becomes the third NPC, so Rabi or Chocobo may become a pet in the anime. In the original work, most players take an Ogre Box with them.
Orchard
A place where you can grow vegetables and fruits that can be used as food for monsters and materials for strengthening the workshop. There is also an orchard separate from your home. There is a large tree creature called a treant in the orchard, and it manages the orchard. Maybe it will make a brief appearance in the anime. I'm sure everyone will place a Mana Sanctuary next to their orchard.
Workshop
A facility where you can make weapons, armor, and musical instruments. It is a facility that is used quite a lot in the original work, but it may not appear in the anime. LoM's weapon and armor creation and modification system is quite complicated, and you cannot make strong weapons even if you make them randomly. Also, the detailed system is incomprehensible even if you look at the Ultimania or strategy sites. For now, let's start by attaching four transparent feathers to the wind spirit's hat.
【League of Mana The Teardrop Crystal】Summary of the main characters (Shiloh and Seraphina)
I've put together a summary of the two main characters of the Legend of Mana LoM The Teardrop Crystal! I love LoM, and I never expected it to be made into an anime in the Reiwa era. Judging from the PV, the visuals are beautiful and I think it's promising! Also, a remastered version of the game has been released with a godly feature called encounter off, so if you're interested, give it a try!
