The first season of KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! Despite appearing in the opening of "Sword Art Online," Yunyun, a member of the Crimson Demon Clan, never made an appearance in the first season. She's a clumsy girl who relentlessly pursues Megumin as her one-sided rival and challenges her to battles. She's slow. Perhaps the fact that she appeared in the opening but never appeared was meant to reflect her clumsiness. The truth is unknown.
Yunyun's Magical Talent
A member of the Crimson Demons, Yunyun comes from a very elite background as a wizard, having been ranked second in the magic school. Incidentally, Megumin's ranking as the top student makes her seem all the more suspicious, but she only became a disappointing wizard because she poured all her energy into explosive magic. Her talent is immeasurable. Yunyun's talent must be incredible, considering she was able to compete with such a talented girl like Megumin.
Yunyun and Megumin are lifelong rivals
Yunyun was capable of anything, but at magic school, Megumin was top of her class and Yunyun was second. Unable to accept that she lost to Megumin in terms of magical talent, she recognizes her as a rival and repeatedly challenges her to battles. Megumin is often useless in battle, but for some reason she's strong against Yunyun. In fact, even though she can use advanced magic, Yunyun is too clumsy to put up a fair fight. Megumin will do anything to win, and it's Yunyun's cute side that seems happy even when she loses.
Yunyun Loves Megumin
While she calls herself a rival, it's easy to see why she's so persistent with Megumin. Perhaps she's shy, or perhaps she's trying to hide her feelings by pursuing her as a rival. It's adorable to watch the friendship that blossoms between them and the conflict they face while fighting.
Yunyun's letters are full of lies, but that's what makes them so cute
Yunyun writes a letter to the Crimson Demon Village. She writes in her characteristically polite and endearing tone, telling them not to come to the town where she's staying to hide her loneliness and keep her lie a secret. Here are some of those letters.
Yunyun's Letter: A Lie About Megumin Being Alone
Funifura-san and Dodonko-san from the Crimson Demon Village, how are you? I'm doing well. I'm currently working as an adventurer in the town of Axel with my friends. Our group consists of a budding adventurer boy, an archpriest girl, and a crusader girl. It's true. Also, Megumin was alone. I don't want to end up like that.
Megumin writes a letter to him pretending to be a loner, hiding the fact that she is a loner herself. She also seems to realize that she is a failure, writing, "I don't want to end up like that," without any friends. Just reading this will bring tears to your eyes.
Yunyun's Letter: Yunyun Feels Cornered
The friends I mentioned in my previous letter are real. They're real. So please stop accusing me of being socially awkward and telling me to tell the truth. It really hits home.
It seemed that Funifura and Dodonko had figured out that Yunyun was the real loner. Yunyun's reactions are so funny, it's easy to understand why they want to tease her. It's heartwarming to see how they understand Yunyun.
