Kamisama Activities in a World Without Gods, which will be broadcast as an anime in Spring 2023, is an alternative world reincarnation and new religion fad story in which the son of a cult leader is reincarnated into a world without gods or religion, and ends up having to found a new religion and gain followers. There are many unique characters appearing, such as a god who becomes stronger with the number of followers he has, but is useless without them, and a protagonist who hates religion but is skilled at manipulating people, group psychology, and fraud. Here we've put together a list of these characters!
Character #1: Urabe Masato
The protagonist of this work. Because his father was the leader of the cult religion "Kamiji Sukyo," which worships the god Mitama, Urabe was looked down upon by those around him and was unable to form normal relationships. He was forced to undergo absurd and brutal training, which ultimately led to his death. As a result, he hated both God and religion, but he was reincarnated into an alternate world where neither concept existed, and lived a peaceful life with his friends. In reality, this world had a system known as "Shusei," which required suicide at a certain age. It was essentially a dystopia.
Founding a religion in a godless world!
Immediately after Masato and his companions are killed, the god "Mitama," who had been watching over him, appears and saves him. However, the threat remains. Masato is forced to found a new religion to attract followers, the source of Mitama's power. Although he hates religion, as the son of a religious leader, he is knowledgeable about religion, as well as about how to manipulate people, scams, and group psychology. He gains followers with his sharp mind, eloquent manipulation, and strong will, even willing to use violence when necessary.
Character #2: Mitama
The heroine of this work. She is the deity worshipped by Masato's family, and manifests the moment Masato and his companions are murdered in the other world. As a god, she wields powerful supernatural powers, performs various miracles, and can borrow the power of the eight million gods. However, her powers are only as strong as the number of her followers; without them, she becomes a useless, useless god.
Looks like a little girl!
She has the appearance of a cute little girl, and believes that her role is to grant Masato's wishes, so she is very attached to him. While she can sometimes be cold towards other characters, she is easily carried away and easy to fool, so she is friendly with everyone, with only a few exceptions. She can perform all kinds of miracles, but if she uses them too much, she becomes like a withered plant. She reverts to normal over time, so Masato uses her powers excessively.
Character #3: Alral
She's the poster girl for the bar where the reincarnated Masato is staying. She runs the bar with her sister, Shiruril, and her cheerful personality makes her well-liked. She secretly admires Masato and is proactive in increasing his following. In this world, sexual content is intentionally excluded, but even so, she is a girl with a strong interest in the sexual field.
Character #4: Shiruril
Shiruril is a big-sisterly woman who runs the bar where the reincarnated Masato is staying, along with her younger sister, Alral. She has a straightforward personality, is intelligent, and is a reliable older sister. She dotes on her younger sister, Alral, and is always willing to help Masato. However, she is not good with sexual topics and runs away when the conversation gets too in-depth.
Character #5: Roy
Masahito's reincarnated male friend. He's stupid, weak-willed, easily deceived, and very simple-minded, so he gets into trouble all the time, but he's by no means a bad person. He has a stronger than average interest in erotic things and a wide range of interests, which makes the women, especially Alral and Mitama, very put off.
Character #6: Kuren
A cool, handsome farmer who somehow ended up living in the Seijin village. However, he has no proof of being a Kakuri resident. He appears to have held a certain status within the Imperial Kingdom, but he's an eccentric who left that life behind to come to Kakuri. What is his true identity...?
Character #7: Bertrand
A dark-skinned soldier serving the Imperial Nation, Bertrand is in command of the field, with a "lifelong" commitment to suicide when the time comes. He attacks Masato and Alral, but is destroyed by a manifested Mitama. He is later revived by the Mitama, but by that time he has transformed from male to female. Having lost his home due to his gender reassignment, he is seduced by Masato, who takes advantage of this and becomes a factor in the village's destruction. He is a man of action and strong, but he always ends up fighting the worst opponents, getting torn to shreds and demanding "kill me."
Character #8: Loki
The true identity of Kren, a farmer hiding in the village. He is one of the Archons created by the Imperial Kingdom and has the ability to create illusions. He knows that the Imperial Kingdom has already fallen and that current society is controlled by machines. He knows that Archons were created in the image of true gods and that divine powers can be wielded through faith, and he plans to destroy the Imperial Kingdom itself and become a true god himself. He is a trickster-like figure who is both an enemy and an ally.
Character #9: Artal
An Archon girl, an elite soldier under the direct command of the Imperial Kingdom, possesses the combat power to obliterate an entire mountain. She targets the village of the Elite, who rebelled against the Lifelong System. After a fierce battle with Mitama, she attempts to blow up the village, but Loki's intervention neutralizes her, and she learns the truth about the Imperial Kingdom. Originally devoted to her duties and reserved, she is deeply shaken when she learns that the Imperial Kingdom no longer exists, demonstrating her true nature as a child. Later, she is persuaded by Elite to temporarily join forces with the village and remain there, but she quickly becomes accustomed to the village and becomes its most powerful asset. He loves the sweets he eats in the village, especially ice cream.
Character #10: Soichiro Urabe
The cult leader who built the cult "Kamiji Sukyo" into a huge group in one generation. He has a muscular body and wears glasses. He worships a god called Mitama and isn't afraid to practice somewhat extreme ascetic practices. He is also Urabe Masato's father, and the person who brought about Urabe's reincarnation. At first, Masato thought he was just a fraud, but his skill in building a cult in one generation was genuine.
Character 11: Dakini
One of the Archons who governs sexual desire. A bright, open-minded, and energetic dark-skinned gal, she absorbs multiple Kakuri and lives by a doctrine obsessed with sexual desire. Originally, her role was to eliminate sexual desire from people under orders from the Imperial Nation, but as a result, newborns lost their reproductive ability, rendering them useless. Later, she befriends a girl with a sexual desire, but when that girl is killed after giving birth, she seeks to return the world to a normal, sexually-charged world.
Character #12: Rishu
A senior member of Dakini's cult, she is known as the cult's greatest sexual lover. However, in reality, she has more sexual knowledge than most and no sexual experience; her knowledge alone made her a senior member of the cult. However, her acting skills and imagination are so outstanding that she even managed to fool Dakini, giving her the qualities of a genius cult leader. Masato recognized her talent, and through thorough acting instruction, she was able to outwit Dakini and win over her followers. She is actually the daughter of Dakini's best friend.
Character 13: Touka
Touka was a girl born with a strong sexual desire, despite Dakini's orders from the Imperial Kingdom to erase her reproductive abilities and sexual desires. She and Dakini hit it off and became best friends, but in this world, the idea of childbirth through reproductive activity was unheard of. Instead, the Imperial Kingdom provided artificially inseminated children. Therefore, the people of Kakuri found her to be creepy, conceiving and giving birth through natural sexual intercourse, and killed her. The girl continued to live in the shadows, but this incident motivated Dakini to found a cult and resolve to return the world to its original structure.
[Kamisama Activities in a Godless World] Character Summary
Here's a roundup of the characters from Kamisama Activities in a Godless World, the spring anime airing in April! The setting in which the number of followers of a religion directly determines its power, and the way the religion spreads in an alternate world while resorting to somewhat shady methods, are fascinating! I also thought the main character, who hates religion but is knowledgeable about religion and scams, was a great character!
