Light Music Club advisor Sawako Yamanaka has a hidden past... We'll uncover it in detail.
The always kind and beautiful Sawa-chan.
Why is he the advisor for the light music club? What secret has Ritsu Tainaka, the club's drummer, uncovered? What on earth was in the yearbook?
Sawako Yamanaka was Catherine during her school days
Sawa-chan is a graduate of the same school. Sakuragaoka High School was known for its thriving light music club. Sawa-chan was a graduate of that time! During her high school days, Sawa-chan...was actually in a band in the light music club!
The band's name is "DEATHDEVIL." She's the main vocalist and guitarist, and her nickname is Catherine. (Don't call it too chuunibyou-ish.) The other members were Kawaguchi Norimi, also known as "Christina," on side guitar, Della on bass, and Jane on drums; the four of them played metal.
Catherine's Skills
Sawa-chan, also known as Catherine, was the lead guitarist and vocalist. She was apparently quite popular at the time.
She also has excellent guitar skills, easily mastering shredding, tapping, and playing guitar with her teeth, often astounding the members of the light music club...
A recording of her vocals was unearthed, and it features Catherine screaming in a death metal voice. Her vocal talent is so impressive that it traumatizes Mio when she hears it (lol).
Why is Mr. Yamanaka into heavy metal?
Sawa-chan enters high school and falls in love. When she finally musters up the courage to confess her feelings, the boy she meets tells her, "I like wilder girls."
Sawa-chan strives to become the ideal person for her boyfriend. She goes too far, and ends up becoming a fan of BABYMETAL... The boy comments, "Sawako... you're going too far!" That's so true (lol).
However, it seems that this hasn't changed even as an adult. Apparently, her reason for becoming a teacher was related to a man, and she was rejected at Christmas... I hope Sawa-chan finds a happy partner!
When did Professor Yamanaka graduate from Catherine?
Sawa-chan was active as Catherine during her high school days. While she calls it a dark memory, she still keeps in touch with her bandmates from back then, and they even reunited.
Sawa's resolve to live a modest life as a teacher is somewhat shaken when the After School Tea Time members discover her past. However, she finds it a place where she can be herself, and she still hangs out there.
But there are also moments when she puts in the hard work of being the advisor, recording live performance footage and making After School Tea Time logo T-shirts to hand out to the audience.
And sometimes, she's an indispensable presence, bringing the disorganized members together with her earth-shattering voice that evokes the past.
Summary
Sawa-chan is a gentle and kind teacher, but perhaps her past experiences devoting herself to light music are what support the girls today.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the advisor, Sawa-chan, and Catherine's past self, who occasionally appears!
