The original work is a fantasy light novel by Kei Sasane, "You and I's Last Battlefield, or the Holy War That Begins the World," commonly known as "Kimisen." It has been published by Fujimi Fantasia Bunko since 2017, and was adapted into a manga in Young Animal in 2018. An anime adaptation is scheduled to begin airing in October 2020. After the great witch Nebulis plunged the Empire into flames, the military state "Empire" and the witch nation "Nebulis Imperial Court" engaged in an endless war for world dominance. On the battlefield, the protagonist Iska, a soldier of the Empire, and Alice, the "Ice Calamity Witch" and royalty of the witch nation, meet. Despite their antagonistic relationship, the two are drawn to each other and realize they share the same goals. However, their relationship is like that of Romeo and Juliet, and it was impossible for them to be together. Despite their fateful encounter, they end up going to battle for their own purposes. 5th Place: Kissing Zoa Nebulis IX
A pure-blooded celestial spirit user encountered by Iska and Mismis when they discovered the Vortex. She possesses extremely powerful celestial spirits, such as thorns that can destroy anything they pierce. However, as On says she is still adjusting her celestial spirit magic, she often shows signs of inexperience in practice, such as when she displays too much celestial spirit magic before a fight. She regards Alice as her big sister.
4th Place: Aliceliese Lou Nebulis IX
The second princess of the Nebulis Imperial Court, she is a pure-blooded celestial spirit user known by the Empire as the Witch of Ice Calamity. She can freely manipulate ice, its hardness enough to cut through anything and even neutralize the firepower of the Empire's large-scale weapons. Her "Ice Flower" shield of ice is so powerful that it even prevented the "space-time destruction" caused by Nebulis's progenitor, the Celestial Staff.
3rd Place: On Zoa Nebulis
A pure-blooded celestial spirit user who appeared just as Iska was about to finish off Kissing. Using his celestial spirit arts, he created a "door that crosses space" and instantly swapped the positions of Kissing and Mismis. While there are few actual battle scenes, and the final battle with Iska has yet to be resolved, his ability to freely manipulate space is incredibly powerful, which is why he placed him in third place.
2nd Place: Isuka
Known as the "Successor of Black Steel," Isuka is a former Apostle Saint and Imperial soldier who wields the Star Sword. His Black Star Sword possesses the power of "Star Blockage," which allows him to cut through anything created with Star Spirit Art, whether it's fire or wind. His White Star Sword possesses the power of "Star Release," which allows him to recreate a Star Spirit Art cut with "Star Blockage" once. Furthermore, he has received specialized training from his master, Cromwell, in combating Star Spirit users, meaning he's unlikely to lose against a Star Spirit user.
1st Place: Founder Nebulis
The great witch who singlehandedly plunged the empire into flames 100 years ago. Though presumed dead, she had actually been sleeping in the basement of the Nebulis Royal Palace. She awakened in response to Iska's Star Sword and Alice's Star Spirit. While it's generally accepted that only one spirit resides within a human, and that only one event can be affected by spirit magic, the spirit of Founder Nebulis is known as the "Space-Time Star Spirit," and is the oldest spirit born from the center of the star. She remembers all events of the star and can summon them from beyond time and space. Frankly, he's the strongest. Ultimately, Iska and Alice team up to put him back to sleep, but he certainly couldn't win one-on-one, so he's ranked #1.
