Have you heard of the hugely popular manga "Heaven's Design Team"? Its unique setting has made it a hot topic, and it is set to be made into an anime in 2021. The unique designers at "Heaven's Design Company" design animals upon request from an entity known as the "Almighty God." It is a fantasy comedy that depicts the process of how animals are completed, and is popularly known by the abbreviation "Ten De Team." What kind of story is "Heaven's Design Team" about, and what kind of creatures appear in it? In this article, we will introduce the creatures in "Heaven's Design Team" with spoilers.
Spoiler introduction to creatures Part 1: The designers at Tenchi Sozosha
The God of the "Old Testament" is said to have created all things on Earth. However, the God of this work became troublesome after creating the heavens, the earth, and the water. So he decided to leave the creation of creatures to a subcontractor. Those subcontractors are the designers at Tenchi Sozosha. They come up with ideas for creatures, engineers verify whether they can be realized, and then the client, "God," decides whether they can be adopted.
What is the Old Testament?
The "Old Testament" here refers to the canonical scriptures of Judaism and Christianity. It is called the "Old Testament" because Christianity has the "New Testament," and for Judaism, the Old Testament is the only "Bible." For this reason, the term "Old Testament" is not used in Judaism, but is called the "Bible." Incidentally, the "Old Testament" is written in Hebrew. Its contents cover all of the intellectual activities of the ancient Israelites and Jews, and are packed with a wide variety of content. It includes stories of the creation of the world and the tribal leaders, Moses and the law, historical accounts, the deeds of the prophets, and prophetic books.
Biological Spoiler Introduction Part 2: Angels Come Down
God, who is lazy and selfish, often receives many absurd orders. The people who are troubled by such orders every day are the "Designers" of Tenchi Sozosha. They are mysterious intelligent lifeforms that look just like humans, and two angels, a man and a woman, come down from the heavens to be liaisons with them. Their names are "Ueda" and "Shimoda." Ueda, a sexy career woman angel, and Shimoda, a new subordinate and office worker angel, were dispatched as the new liaisons for the designers. Shimoda, who was dispatched as a new employee, is busy every day, but he gradually gets used to the job by competing with stylish designers and engineers.
Biological Spoiler Introduction Part 3: Giraffe is Born!
The first creature born in "Project 1" was a "giraffe." This was an order from God, and was born from a request for a creature that could eat leaves that were really high up. So the designers each put their ingenuity into it. By the way, Tsuchiya, the head of the department, is known for his own work on horses, and he was so fascinated by the beauty of horses that he had a habit of basing all his subsequent designs on horses (?), and this time he was unwavering in proposing Pegasus. Other ideas included Mizushima's "Ping Pong Tree" (which was later adopted) and Umihara's "Long-necked Deer".
After much trial and error
By the way, Pegasus was not made, and the engineer, Kaguchi, got very angry. Pegasus is an imaginary animal, but the reason it cannot exist is because it is impossible for it to fly in the sky while having the weight of a horse. The long-necked deer was hesitant to use it because it would be unable to support its neck due to dizziness, but it was decided that it would be better to stretch its legs as much as possible to support itself, and so it stretched its legs, but it would not be able to reach the food and water below, so it made its neck and legs about the middle length, and since it was this size and only ate grass, it was decided to use bacteria that could convert grass into protein in the stomach so that its body could support it. (This is the same as a "cow.") Also, because it was lonely without a pattern, a pattern was added, and thus the "giraffe" was born.
Biological Spoiler Introduction Part 4: Unique animals are born one after another!
The designers at the Heavenly Creation Design Department create unique animals every day. At the same time as the "giraffe," a deep-sea creature called the "Ping Pong Tree Sponge" was born. This, which was adopted as the "long creature," is a fairly rare carnivorous deep-sea creature that lives several thousand meters below the surface of the ocean, and although it actually exists, it has rarely been observed. In addition, the red-eyed tree frog, which was developed as a creature whose eggs cannot be eaten by snakes, has the surprising property of turning into tadpoles and escaping into the water the moment a snake approaches (it mainly lives in Central America). The weaver bird, which was created under the same conditions, is a rather rare bird that hangs a bag-shaped nest from a tree and lays its eggs there.
Familiar creatures are also born one after another!
Not only rare creatures are born, but familiar creatures are also born. The koala, which everyone loves, was actually created under the order of God to be a "cute but not cute creature." It certainly looks very cute, but it also has some not-so-cute habits, such as a death voice, sharp claws, and strange eating habits. The narwhal is a rare marine mammal with a horn. The horn for a unicorn was attached to a dolphin, and it went well with the horn, so it was adopted as it was.
Other creatures!
There are many other creatures that are born. For example, do you know the creature that is said to be the strongest in the sea? It is the sperm whale, known for emitting a beam of sound waves (!). In addition, various creatures are born, such as the "giant squid" that is said to have been created in the work to compete with the "sperm whale". The "giant squid" is a very large and ferocious creature that sometimes bites sperm whales, but it is usually eaten by sperm whales. It is educational because various creatures appear.
Creature Spoiler Introduction Part 5: Designers Go on a Recreational Trip
God, feeling sorry for the designers who are always busy working and using their brains to the fullest, gives them a three-day recreational trip. The destination is Galapagos Island (also known as Prototype Island). The designers enjoyed the trip to the fullest, but when they returned home and tried to continue their next project, a certain panda trouble occurred.
What is the "panda" trouble?
When a scrapped creature drawn during the trip and a rough design of a "panda" were overlapped, the panda lost its intelligence, its fur was torn off, and it was repeatedly multiplying and splitting into multiple avatars. Tsuchiya's solution was to use a "tsetse fly" that hates stripes. The designers were somehow saved, but this incident was caused by a curse that Ueda had placed on the black and white creature. When the gods in heaven heard about this, they were angry and sent Ueda to hell for putting their precious designers in danger.
