This action-packed adventure follows the young protagonist Gon Freecss as he becomes a hunter, following in his father's footsteps, in order to meet his father, Ging, whom he has never met, while deepening his bonds with his companions.
The series began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) in 1998, making it the third longest-running series after Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koenmae Hashutsujo and One Piece.
Protagonist: Gon Freecss
Overview
A member of the 287th Hunter class, Gon is an Enhancement-type ability user (slightly leaning towards Emission-type abilities). He was 11 years old when he first appeared, born on May 5th, and is 154 cm tall, weighs 49 kg, and is blood type B. Originally from Whale Island, he grew up surrounded by nature from a young age. He met Kite as a child and learned about his father, Ging, which inspired him to aspire to become a Hunter. He took the Hunter Exam to find his father and fulfill his own dream.
Abilities
Jajanken
After taking a stance and raising his aura by shouting "First, rock!", Gon selects an Enhancement, Transformation, or Emission technique from his right hand, modeled after rock-paper-scissors, depending on the situation.
Rock
An Enhancement technique. He delivers a straight right punch imbued with aura. Given that Gon is an Enhancement user, this is by far the most powerful of the three. A direct hit boasts immense destructive power, capable of inflicting fatal damage even on a superior opponent.
Chi
A Transformation technique. He transforms his aura into blades with his fingers, slicing through the target. Its cutting edge is sharp enough to slice through the flesh of a Chimera Ant. While he wasn't very adept at using it at first, as he trained, he became skilled enough to slice his opponents in half, as mentioned above.
Paper
An Emission technique. He launches a mass of aura from his palm.
Forced Growth
Determined and ready to end things, Killua compresses his own life and forces his body to grow to the age (level) needed to defeat Neferpitou.
It is believed that this state would normally require decades of constant training.
Killua Zoldyck
Overview
Killua is the third son of the Zoldyck family and passed the 288th Hunter Exam. He is the same age as Gon, 11 years old when he first appears, his birthday is July 7th, his height is 158cm, his weight is 45kg, and his blood type is A. A silver-haired boy and Gon's best friend. In contrast to Gon, he is calm, collected, quick-witted, and pragmatic. He first accurately assesses a situation and then takes action to avoid danger as much as possible. He likes sweets and games, has a poor sense of money, and is prone to gambling.
Abilities
Thunder Palms
Emits high-voltage electricity from both hands like a stun gun. Electrocutes the enemy and temporarily immobilizes them.
Lightning Strikes
Jumps above the enemy and drops high-voltage electricity from both hands like a lightning bolt on the enemy's head.
Lightning Speed
By channeling his electrically converted aura directly into the body's peripheral nerves, he achieves superhuman reflexes. Furthermore, his attacks have the same effect as Thunder Palm, allowing him to fight while blocking his opponent's counterattack. Like other abilities, this ability can no longer be used once the electricity is depleted.
Lightning Speed
By manipulating his own body, he can perform a super-fast initial movement. Unlike Gale Force Lightning, this ability can be acted upon will. When it was published in Weekly Shonen Jump, it was written as "Lightning Speed."
Gale Force Lightning
By reacting to the malice in the opponent's aura, he automatically launches a super-fast counterattack against a programmed attack, even before the brain can register it.
Kurapika
Overview
He is a contract hunter who passed the 287th Hunter Exam. Born on April 4th, he is 17 years old, 171 cm tall, weighs 59 kg, and has blood type AB. He is a survivor of the Kurta tribe, a minority tribe wiped out by the Phantom Troupe, and became a hunter to avenge his comrades and recover the stolen eyeballs of his comrades.
He is intelligent, calm, and collected, and is the most intelligent member of Gon's group.
Abilities
Scarlet Eyes
When emotionally aroused, Kurapika's eyes turn a vibrant scarlet, greatly increasing his combat power. Scarlet eyes are considered one of the seven most beautiful colors in the world and are traded at high prices on the black market as art.
The scarlet color achieved by strong emotions such as anger and sadness is said to be the deepest and most vibrant, so the Kurta clan were subjected to brutal torture and death.
Materialized Chains
Normally a Materialization-type ability user, Kurapika's abilities change to a Specialty-type ability when he activates his Scarlet Eyes. He is equipped with five materialized chains, one on each of the five fingers on his right hand. Each chain has a weight shaped like a symbol of its assigned ability. Based on Kurapika's intention to grant "the ability to fight alone," each chain is endowed with a unique ability.
Healing Thumb Chain (Holy Chain)
A cross-shaped chain is created on the thumb of his right hand. This is an enhancement ability that strengthens the self-healing power of the area around the chain, healing wounds. While not particularly effective under normal circumstances, during "Absolute Time," it is effective enough to completely heal even a comminuted fracture in just a few seconds.
Binding Middle Finger Chain (Chain Jail)
A claw-shaped chain is created on the middle finger of his right hand. This is a materialization ability that wraps around the opponent, forcing them into a state of despair and trapping them. Being trapped by these chains seals their Nen abilities, and the only way to break them is to destroy them using physical strength alone, without using Nen.
Dowsing Chain
A spherical chain ability created on the ring finger of his right hand. By increasing Kurapika's concentration, this ability exerts a dowsing effect, allowing him to discover lost objects, detect lies, and locate people by holding it over a map.
Judgment Chain
A blade-tipped chain ability created on the pinky finger of his right hand. It drives the chain into the target's body, wrapping it around their heart and enacting the rules they have set. If the target breaks the rules, the chain will crush their heart, killing them.
Emperor Time
A special ability activated only when Kurapika has Scarlet Eyes. The absolute amount of his aura increases dramatically, allowing him to use all abilities, not just materialization, with 100% accuracy. However, this is merely the "precision" of his abilities, and does not mean that he can be used on the same level as Kurapika's original Materialization type.
Leorio Paradinight
Overview
He passed the 287th Hunter Exam and is 19 years old, born on March 3rd. He stands 193 cm tall, weighs 85 kg, and is blood type O. He always wears a black suit and sunglasses.
He has a simple and selfish personality, and is extremely weak when it comes to alcohol and women.
Abilities
Ability to Manifest a Fist at a Distant Location (Tentative Name)
First appeared in the Chairman Election Arc. This ability allows the impact of punching the ground or other objects to be projected at a distant location.
Aura Echo Test (Tentative Name)
Sends out a wave of aura, detecting it in an echo-like manner. According to Ging, it is harder to detect than a circle.
This ability appears as Ging's imitation of Leorio's ability.
Hisoka Morrow
Overview
He is a former member of the Phantom Troupe, number 4, who passed the 287th Hunter Exam. Born on June 6th. His age is unknown, but he is 187cm tall, weighs 91kg, and has type B blood.
He usually wears a unique, slicked-back hairstyle, and his blonde hair is close to orange, but fades to a light green halfway through.
He has a quirky, clown-like appearance, but when he lets his hair down and washes off the paint, he is quite handsome.
Hisoka's past is entirely unknown, and he is known for his liar and volatile personality, his quick wit, and his elusive personality.
He possesses a genius fighting instinct and is a battle maniac who finds ecstasy in fighting and killing opponents he likes.
He believes that he is the strongest and has no need to belong to anyone, so joining the Hanta Kyara Troupe is merely a means to an end and he actually did so under false pretenses.
Abilities
Stretchable Love (Bungee Gum)
A transformation ability that transforms his aura into something with the properties of both rubber and gum. It sticks like gum and stretches like rubber.
It's up to Hisoka to attach, remove, stretch, or shrink it. If used away from Hisoka's body, it will break if it stretches more than 10 meters.
It maintains its adhesiveness even when removed from the body. It can also be made invisible by using "Hide." The principle itself is simple and unrestricted, and it is extremely powerful when used in combination with various items such as playing cards or handkerchiefs and employed under Hisoka's cunning tactics and strategies.
Flat Lies (Prank Texture)
A transformation ability that transforms aura into various textures, covering and reproducing the surface of an object.
It can reproduce over a thousand textures, including dyes, minerals, fibers, plants, and animal skin, and can even display text, making its range of applications wide.
It can only reproduce two-dimensional objects, and is like covering a surface with a very high-quality color copy. Therefore, if the reproduced texture differs from the object it is attached to, it will be immediately obvious when touched.
