"Laid-Back Camp△" is a laid-back anime that became a hot topic for its cute depiction of a group of high school girls going on a laid-back camping trip. Have you heard of "Heya Camp△," the mini-corner that aired after the main series? It was positioned as a sort of spin-off from the main series, and its even more laid-back atmosphere than "Laid-Back Camp△" drew attention. Then, in January 2020, it was announced that "Heya Camp△" would be made into a standalone short anime! We're all excited to see what it'll be like. In this article, we'll introduce some of the best scenes from the mini-corner, "Heya Camp△."
[Famous Scenes] What exactly is "Heya Camp△"?
First of all, "Heya Camp△" is a fun, laid-back story centered around three members of the "Outdoor Activities Club," or "No-Kuru," that appear in the main series, "Yuru Camp△." The main series is also laid-back, but this episode is even more laid-back, making it even more relaxing. It was a relaxing corner after the main series.
Famous Scene #1☆The Proper Way to Eat Kikyo Shingen Mochi
Now, let's introduce some of the best scenes from "Heya Camp△"! After welcoming Nadeshiko to the Outdoor Club, the group prepares to eat Kikyo Shingen Mochi. Kikyo Shingen Mochi is a delicious packaged rice cake with kinako (roasted soybean flour) that you pour brown sugar syrup over. Nadeshiko, who loves to eat, is naturally delighted. However, while delicious, this mochi can be a bit tricky to eat, as the kinako inevitably spills. So Chiaki gives a lesson on how to eat it properly.
Easy to eat! Nadeshiko couldn't help but...
The trick is to flip the mochi over into the plastic wrap that it was wrapped in, pour brown sugar syrup over it, and then wrap the plastic wrap around it and knead it! This is a great method because it's extremely easy to eat and the brown sugar syrup is evenly distributed throughout. Both Aoi and Nadeshiko were impressed. However, before they knew it, all the Kikyo Shingen Mochi was gone. They suddenly noticed that Nadeshiko had eaten it all. Chiaki and Aoi couldn't help but comment, "She's eating too much," and "She's a big new star."
Famous Scene #2☆Shima Rin Gets a Crazy Hairstyle
While "Heya Camp" primarily features members of the Outdoor Club, Shima Rin and her friend, Saito Ena, also make occasional appearances. One day, Rin, a member of the library committee, falls asleep while working at the reception desk. Noticing this, Ena, as usual, decides to play around with Rin's hair (Ena enjoys styling Rin's long hair). However, midway through, she decides that simply styling it normally isn't enough, and begins tweaking it with incredible dexterity. She then leaves the scene before Rin wakes up.
Rin becomes the center of attention
Later, Rin wakes up. She's been sleeping so soundly she doesn't even notice Ena's arrival. As she leaves the library and walks down the hallway to head home, she finds herself the center of attention. To her surprise, Rin's hairstyle has been styled in the shape of a castle! Ena's dexterity is truly astounding.
Famous Scene #3☆Nadeshiko Gets a Strange Nickname
Nadeshiko is a member of the Outdoor Club, so she often goes camping with the other members on weekends. However, she also goes camping with Rin, so she's essentially juggling two camping trips at the same time. While this is usually quite strenuous, Nadeshiko, thanks to her impressive stamina, is surprisingly unfazed. Chiaki even calls her "strong-style"... In Episode 3, "Room Camp△," Nadeshiko shows the Outdoor Club members photos of her camping trip to Mt. Fuji with Rin. Nadeshiko happily shows off photos of her and Rin together, as well as pictures of the ice cream she ate. In the first episode, Nadeshiko even cycled 40 kilometers up Mount Fuji to see it, proving she's a big fan.
Her nickname is "Fujiko"
Nadeshiko even bought a Mount Fuji T-shirt and a Mount Fuji mascot. Aoi encourages her, saying, "If you love Mount Fuji so much, why don't you climb it?" However, Nadeshiko immediately becomes reserved, insisting, "Just looking at it is enough!" Chiaki, who had been watching the whole thing, gave Nadeshiko the strange nickname, "You keep saying Fuji Fuji, so from now on you're Fujiko." Nadeshiko was shocked, but quickly smiled and said, "That's fine!"
Famous Scene #4 ☆ Nadeshiko Becomes a Prop
Episode 4, "Room Camp△," was so laid-back that viewers struggled to keep up. The members of the Outdoor Club were practicing (or perhaps even calling themselves) camping in their cramped clubroom. Practicing pitching tents, chopping firewood, relaxing in chairs, practicing hammocks, chatting around a campfire, and gazing at Mount Fuji... There were many mysterious activities, but the most problematic thing was that Nadeshiko played the role of the tools in all of them. For the tent pitching practice, she played the tent, for the firewood chopping practice, she played the base, and for the hammock practice, she played the hammock. Everyone was expressionless and serious, which made it very surreal.
Come to My Senses
Nadeshiko came to her senses around the time of the Mount Fuji practice, casually commenting, "Why am I the only one playing the prop role?" Aoi replied, "Because it's funny!"
Famous Scene #5☆The Mystery of Soba and Udon
In Episode 6, "Room Camp△," Aoi's lie was particularly telling. After enjoying a camping trip in the mountains, the Outdoor Club members reminisced. Nadeshiko and Chiaki were discussing why there were so many soba and udon restaurants in the mountains. Then, Aoi appeared and explained that the noodles they were eating were actually "soba-udon" (buckwheat noodles), not "soba-udon."
The Mystery of Soba and Udon Revealed
The "u" in "soba-u" ("buckwheat noodles") refers to the bird "cormorant." There was a local dish called "soba-udon" (buckwheat noodles). The meat of cormorants, which are raised on buckwheat husks, is sweet and similar to the meat, mixed with wild vegetables and served on rice. However, it gradually came to be mistaken for "soba" or "udon," and the "soba-udon" dish disappeared... Nadeshiko was impressed, but Samaaoi immediately spoiled the story, saying, "That's a lie." Aoi is a sensible character, but sometimes she tells outrageous lies and then quickly reveals the truth by saying, "That was a lie."
Famous Scene #6☆Recruiting Club Members...
The Outdoor Club wasn't particularly proactive in recruiting members, but one day, Chiaki, fed up with the cramped clubroom, began to suggest recruiting members. The three members brainstormed to come up with a mascot character to promote the Outdoor Club. Ideas galore, including "Tenshiba," a combination of a tent and a Shiba Inu, and "Nyantan," a combination of a cat and a lantern. However, Chiaki's idea was to combine a Dutch oven and a turkey to create "Roast-chan." Aoi chimed in, saying, "It's already been cooked."
[Heya Camp△] Summary of Famous Scenes!
That concludes our summary of the best scenes from "Heya Camp△"! Though it was only a short animation, it really brought out the cuteness of each character. The upcoming short animation, scheduled to air in early 2020, is said to take Nadeshiko and the others outside the clubroom, so we don't know what's going to happen. In the visuals released, the members of the Outdoor Club are in the mountains, but what will happen next? I'm curious to see how things will develop in the future. I'm looking forward to seeing the cute characters interact again next year. Thank you for reading this far.
