The Seven Deadly Sins is a hugely popular fantasy adventure series currently running in Weekly Shonen Magazine. This time, we'll be focusing on Hawk the pig, the partner of the main character Meliodas! He's like the mascot character of the Seven Deadly Sins! When Hawk first appears in the first episode of the anime, he shocks viewers with his talkative and cheeky behavior, despite being a pig, saying, "What the hell do you want from me?" But if you think about it, a talking pig is strange, and who is Hawk anyway?

First, some basic information about Hawk!

Hawk in armor

Hawk is 100cm tall and weighs 140kg! Hawk's mom is so big that I thought he was small, but he's actually bigger than I expected... It makes sense that Elizabeth and the van can ride in him. lol

His birthday is August 6th, which is Ham Day, and he includes some self-deprecating humor that only a pig can have. He's 16 years old. He was in the same class as Elizabeth! And according to the official book, his birthplace is "inside Hawk's mom," which is also a mysterious expression. I'll explain this in more detail later.

His magic power is [transformation (transpoke)]. When Hawk eats a creature with magical powers, his appearance changes, but he can use the creature's abilities.

Who is Hawk?

Hawk jumps out in front of Meliodas

Even among fans of The Seven Deadly Sins, there are many theories about who Hawk is. In the past, there was even a theory that he was Escanor. As the story progresses, the most likely theory is that he is the reincarnation of Meliodas' former partner, Wandle the Bird. He is a bird with a white body and red wings that appears occasionally in flashback scenes with Liz.

Reason why it is speculated to be Wandol①

Wandol and Meliodas

Have you noticed that Hawk has a four-leaf clover-like mark on his butt? In fact, Wandol has the same four-leaf clover mark on his chest as Hawk. If this is true, then surely the mark on Hawk's butt contains such a hint?! That's what it feels like. This is what makes The Seven Deadly Sins so interesting.

Reason why it's speculated to be Wandol②

Wandol's recollection

Speaking of Hawk, he has a mysterious, unfounded, condescending attitude and a confident tone of voice. However, while this may also be Hawk's personality, Wandol also has a bad mouth. lol He is especially similar to Hawk in the way he adds "-ze" to the end of his sentences and clicks his tongue. With all these similarities, it makes sense that the Wandol theory is gaining ground.

Reason 3 that it is Wandle

"That's a strange story. I feel like I used to fly in the sky too. Maybe it's a memory from a past life." This is what Hawk said when he first met Meliodas, while looking at a bird. If he was Wandle's reincarnation, he would have been flying. This line makes you think, "This is a hint, right?"

Reason 4 that it is Wandle

Wandle died next to Liz, Meliodas' lover, when she was killed 16 years ago. And Hawk was 16 years old... Meliodas also found Elizabeth on the spot right after Liz died. If Hawk had a similar method of reincarnation, it would be very suspicious that he was 16 years old.

A shocking truth is revealed in chapter 243!

Meliodas grabs Hawk's face and says a shocking word: "Did you think I hadn't noticed this whole time...? It must have been fun watching us suffer, Demon King..." Eh? Hawk is the Demon King? What do you mean? I'm sure both readers and Hawk were left with a lot of questions. However, Merlin, who knows everything, quickly explains the answer. Hawk is connected to Purgatory, where the Demon King is. Merlin speculates that the Demon King has probably been watching Meliodas through Hawk's eyes.

Are there hints in the Demon King's words too?

When Meliodas was killed by Estarossa and went to Purgatory, he met the Demon King. At that time, the Demon King knew that Meliodas was killed spectacularly. And he says, "My faithful 'eyes' have only shown you everything that happened..." In other words, Merlin's speculation that the Demon King was seeing Meliodas through Hawk's eyes was correct.

Was Wandoru also the Demon King's "eyes"?

We have said that the most likely theory is that Hawk is a reincarnation of Wandle, but does that mean that Wandle was also the "eye" of the Demon King? In conclusion, there is no evidence that he was the "eye" of the Demon King, but there are hints that this is the case, so we will introduce them!

Did Meliodas realize it when they met?

When Meliodas met Hawk, he heard Hawk's way of speaking and asked, "Are you Wandle?" As expected, it's hard to mistake a pig for a bird, so it's speculated that he asked if Wandle was a reincarnation. Furthermore, right after Hawk says that he felt like he used to fly in the sky, he smiles meaningfully and says, "I'm Meliodas. Nice to meet you, Hawk!". Just like Elizabeth, it's possible that the Demon King's "eyes" have been reincarnated many times and have met Meliodas!

The Holy War is a battle in which the Goddess Tribe joins forces with three other races, including the human race, to seal away the Demon Tribe. The image that plays before the opening of The Seven Deadly Sins depicts the Holy War. On the left side are the Goddess Tribe and three other tribes, and on the right side are the Demon Tribe. Hawk Mama is depicted on the right side of the image, that is, on the Demon Tribe side! Does that mean Hawk Mama is a Demon Tribe? Nothing has been announced about this yet, but if Hawk Mama is a Demon Tribe, then Hawk would also be a Demon Tribe. Maybe it's because he's a demon that he can transform (transpoke).

Is Hawk a subordinate of the Demon King?

If Hawk is a demon, is he a subordinate of the Demon King? This raises the question, but if you look at Hawk's actions up to now, it certainly doesn't seem like that. Hawk may be condescending, but he cares deeply for his friends and puts his body on the line. If he was a subordinate of the Demon King, he definitely couldn't do something like that! As proof, let us introduce some of Hawk's exploits!

Hawk's achievements①

Hawk's greatest achievement is this! When Hendrickson, who has obtained the power of the Gray Demon and can no longer be stopped by anyone, tries to kill Meliodas, Hawk becomes a shield in his place and suffers the Black Death (Dead End). At the end, it was thought that he had died, leaving behind the famous line, "Don't die, you bastard pigs," but for some reason he was still alive, just smaller. I'm sure many people were moved to tears by this scene. He was willing to sacrifice his life for Meliodas. A subordinate of the Demon King would never be able to do something like that. And it makes us even more curious about the true identity of Hawk, who didn't die even after being treated so badly.

When Elizabeth was taken away by Liones in the first season of the anime, Hawk, who was near Elizabeth, was also taken away. Unfortunately (?), Hawk has an upset stomach and, desperate to relieve himself, uses a Super Loin Illusion (simple body slam) to break down the door to the cell he and Elizabeth are in. He then uses a Rolling Ham Attack to defeat the cell guard and kicks Vivian, who is trying to capture Elizabeth, but is sent flying somewhere by Vivian, who hates pigs. Hawk is a very manly guy trying to protect Elizabeth!

Hawk's true identity remains unknown, but the theory that he is the reincarnation of Wandle seems to be strong! There is no doubt that he is the "eye" of the Demon King, but whether he is a demon remains a mystery. However, from Hawk's actions and words so far, it is certain that he is a friend of Meliodas and the others. More and more about the Demon King and Purgatory are coming out, so the mystery of Hawk will be revealed from now on! We can't wait to see more of the beloved mascot character Hawk from The Seven Deadly Sins!
