"Gun Gale Online" was originally one of the VR games in the Sword Art Online series. It's a game with a fascinating setting that has even spawned spin-off works and been made into an anime. While many of the VR games that appear in Sword Art Online involve fighting with swords and magic in a fantasy world, one of the highlights of Gun Gale Online, commonly known as GGO, is that the characters fight using real guns. The characters are fascinating, but it's amazing to see them fighting with real firearms. Here, we'd like to introduce the firearms used by the characters in an easy-to-understand manner.

Sinon's main weapon "PGM Hecate II"

The gun used by Sinon, who can be said to be the heroine of the Phantom Bullet arc, is an anti-material rifle called "PGM Hecate II". In the story, it is simply called "Hecate II". It uses bullets with a larger caliber than a normal sniper rifle, and can hit targets over 1800 meters away. Anti-material rifles are obviously more powerful than the average assault rifle, so Sinon can kill enemies with almost one shot.

The Hecate II is a prestigious gun that is also officially adopted by the French military. Using powerful and penetrating 12.7mm NATO bullets, this gun is a formidable weapon with enough power to pierce a lightly armored vehicle. Kirito cut it off with his Photon Sword, but in reality, it would be impossible to cut off a Hecate II bullet at close range, which travels at hundreds of meters per second.

Sinon's sub-arm "Glock 18c"

This handgun is equipped with a full-auto mechanism, based on the Glock 17, which caused a major revolution in 1982 as a new gun made of reinforced plastic instead of metal. Sinon uses the Glock 18c as a sub-weapon when she suddenly encounters an enemy at close range. There is a semi/full auto switch lever on the left rear of the slide, so she can use it depending on the situation.

A handgun that can use small-caliber bullets that can penetrate body armor. The name comes from the fact that it uses 5.7mm bullets and the initials of the manufacturer, Fabric National. It uses bullets that are significantly smaller than normal handgun bullets, so it holds a very large 20 rounds, and because most of the parts that make up its exterior are made of plastic, it's also very light at just 617g.

This is the gun that Sinon recommended to Kirito, who has no knowledge of guns, but it's impressive that Sinon recommended such a practical gun with high performance as a handgun. In GGO, Kirito hardly had any practice using a gun, so he doesn't use it often, but he uses the Five-Seven when he needs to hold back enemies or when the Photon Sword doesn't have enough reach.

Death Gun's main weapon "L115A3"

Death Gun, who is probably one of the strongest players in GGO, uses the main weapon "L115A3". This is an improved version of the sniper rifle officially adopted by the British Army in 2007, and is also the sniper rifle actually used by British Army snipers. It uses 7.62mm NATO bullets, and although it is not particularly relevant in the story, it is an excellent rifle that is also strong for use in cold climates.

Death Gun has a silencer attached to it, making it a very troublesome weapon. In a sniper duel with Sinon, he destroys both of their scopes, resulting in a draw. Death Gun's own player skill is probably high, but I think the high performance of the L115A3 also plays a part.

Death Gun's main arm "Tokarev T33 (Type 54)"

Death Gun uses this "Tokarev T33" as a sub-weapon, and it is this weapon that makes Death Gun the Death Gun. In the story, it is called the "Type 54 pistol," but the official name would be more accurately T33, a gun originally produced by the Soviet Union. The Type 54 was mass-produced in China in 1954, and many were smuggled into Japan. It is also known as the "Black Star" due to the star mark on the grip.

Len's main weapon "FN P90"

The submachine gun used by Len, the protagonist of the spin-off work "Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online," is the "FN P90." This is actually not a submachine gun, but a gun manufactured under a new category called a personal defense weapon, but because its features are similar to those of a submachine gun, it is generally treated as a submachine gun.

As you can tell from the letters FN, this gun was actually developed by Fabric National, the same company that manufactured the "FN Five-Seven" used by Kirito, and boasts high penetration power because it uses 7.62mm bullets like the Five-Seven. This submachine gun, which can hold up to 50 rounds of special bullets capable of penetrating body armor, is popular with special forces in close-range anti-terrorist operations.

M's main weapon "M14 EBR"

The gun used by M, the big man who participated in the first BoB as Len's partner, is the "M14 EBR." It is an improved version of the assault rifle "M14" adopted by the US military in 1957. The M14 became the main weapon of the US military when it first entered the Vietnam War in 1964, and was highly praised for its effective range and power. However, the size of the barrel made it a disadvantage in the jungle, and it was considered difficult to use in close-quarters combat.

Fukajiro's main arm "MGL140"

Fukajiro, Ren's partner and best friend in the second BoB, has a six-barreled grenade launcher "MGL-140" as his main arm. It has been officially adopted by the US military and has a sliding stock mechanism similar to the M4 carbine, the US military's main assault rifle. It weighs over 6kg, but Fukajiro, who is small but strong, handles it with ease. Its destructive power is guaranteed, just as it looks.

There are many unusual firearms in GGO

It is well known that even military fans were surprised by the Hecate II used by Sinon during the broadcast of SAOii, as it was a very unusual firearm. Pitohui, who is Len's mentor and one of his greatest enemies, also uses a rare anti-material rifle called the "M107A1." I think it's fun to watch GGO from a military perspective.
