Goblin Slayer

He wears dirty armor that even a rookie wouldn't wear, but he is actually a silver-ranked adventurer (the third rank from the top), a "goblin slayer." 20 years old. Dwarves call him "Kamikirimaru" and elves call him "Orcbolg."

A veteran goblin killer who will do anything to kill goblins. His goblin-fighting skills are top-notch, and he knows goblin ecology, species, and behavior patterns inside out. He's equipped with the anti-goblin gear he needs in caves: dirty leather armor, a cheap-looking iron helmet, an awkward-length sword, and a worn-out shield.

However, due to his shabby equipment that looks shabby if you don't know its purpose and his stubborn personality that seems to have no interest in anything other than killing goblins, he is not well-received by the adventurers around him, from veterans to novice adventurers, who say, "He's talented, but he only specializes in hunting weaklings" and "He's weird." On the other hand, he is surprisingly popular with the general public because he actively exterminates goblins, a threat close to home, and especially in distant places, he has been praised as a "hero of the people" and "heroine."

He is generally quiet and doesn't understand sarcasm or jokes very well, but he is actually quite considerate of those around him and is clumsy. Although it's easy to misunderstand from his behavior and the fact that he always wears a helmet, he is actually 20 years old as of volume 1, and in the illustrations, only the mouth is drawn with a face appropriate for his age (or, depending on how you look at it, even androgynous).

Goblin Slayer's fighting style

His tactics include surprise attacks and traps, and he does not hesitate to attack with fire or water. Although he carries a sword, he does not hesitate to throw it when necessary, and he uses it disposably and obtains weapons from the corpses of goblins, making it an anything-goes style. To practice killing goblins in the dark, he uses everything from physical techniques to knowledge, such as walking without making a sound, scientific knowledge he has greedily studied, and dust explosions.

High-level martial arts

For example, when it comes to using a bow and arrow, he has mastered a wide variety of martial arts at a high level, such as shooting goblins from dozens of meters away. He is particularly confident in throwing, and says that "the greatest weapon of an ordinary person is throwing." He throws a variety of things, from shooting with a string-like sling or an improvised javelin thrower to throwing weapons with his bare hands and throwing stones and blinders.

Reason for cheap equipment

Also, in case he falls, he deliberately uses only cheap equipment (= equipment that is unlikely to cause much damage even if worn by goblins) in consideration of secondary damage. However, silver-grade skills are originally at the level of a master who is so outstanding in his field of expertise that even a single martial art can be mistaken for magic. Goblin Slayer's skills are ranked 5th to 6th in each category (according to one enemy), which is ruby to emerald grade, so his skill is low when evaluated as silver grade.

Jack of all trades, master of none

Including his physical abilities, he is strictly within the category of a human fighter man, and he often struggles in battles of pure strength. Even if his opponent is inferior, he will use surprise attacks to kill them, and he is often injured when facing strong opponents. To put it negatively, he is a jack of all trades, but to put it positively, he is an all-rounder who can handle any situation, and he seems to have more of the qualities of a ranger or scout than a warrior.

Goblins to Goblins

Declaration of Goblin Slayer

He compares the reason why goblins attack people with the reason why he kills goblins, and likens himself to "a goblin to goblins." He does not actively try to kill anyone other than goblins, but he will mercilessly kill anyone who attacks him in an attempt to kill him, whether they are a monster or a human. Her past is described in detail in the first volume of the spinoff, "Year One," which reveals that when she was 10 years old, her hometown was attacked and destroyed by goblins, and her beloved older sister was tortured and killed in front of her eyes. It is also revealed that she was picked up and trained by an old Leher.

At first, she was at his mercy, but as their relationship continued, she got used to his words and actions, and became a good partner, sometimes giving her opinions. At the same time, she is strangely influenced by him, such as unconsciously assuming that she will defeat goblins when they appear, even if she is not on a goblin extermination request. At 15 years old, she is not that tall.

In the novel version, the party gets into trouble during their first adventure to defeat goblins, and is saved by Goblin Slayer. In the main story, she is reversed, her clothes are torn and damaged on the cover of the limited edition, holy water is drawn on the color frontispiece, she is completely naked on the color frontispiece of volume 2, and she is featured on the limited metal cover, which is very tragic.

A Short Story About a Priestess

Up until volume 6, she was only promoted to obsidian rank, but at the end of volume 6, she was finally promoted to steel rank. In the AA version, she is the female priest from DQ3, famous for her tight tights, but in the novel version, she has a normal design with less exposure, and her hat has changed from a box-shaped one to a rounded, wide one.

Cowherd Girl

A childhood friend of Goblin Slayer. She lives with her uncle on a ranch near the guild. Another heroine in this work. She has a bright and cheerful personality. Due to their long relationship, she is one of the few people who understands him, and can read his inner thoughts, which are more difficult to understand than others, from his smallest actions.

Unknown Past

Although her past is only depicted in fragments, it is said that she and Goblin Slayer used to play together as neighbors when they were young, and that when her hometown was attacked by goblins, she happened to be at her uncle's house and was saved. In "Year One," the story of her reunion with Goblin Slayer, who had become "Goblin Slayer," is also told, making her the de facto heroine. She is something of a recluse due to past trauma, and has long hair.

Receptionist

The Worried Receptionist

An older woman who handles the procedures for requests from adventurers at the guild. She is a housewife who supports Goblin Slayer, who is not well-received by his peers, both in the shadows and in the spotlight. She is about 23 years old. While she suffers a lot of damage, she has trouble with goblin requests that only novice employees would handle, and is deeply grateful to Goblin Slayer for taking on the initiative to exterminate them.

The Eco-Friendly Receptionist

In fact, she is the only one who gives a blatantly unsalesy smile and pours tea, so her colleagues are considerate and leave the handling of him to her. By the way, her preferred partner is a "stoic adventurer." In other words, Goblin Slayer is right in her strike zone.

Elves Archer

A forest elf ranger. Although she looks like a young girl, she is long-lived like most elves of her race. By the way, she is 2000 years old. However, she is not that experienced, and has a straightforward personality with her emotions shown on her face. She is often teased by the younger miner monk and has a heated exchange with him, but as she is silver-ranked (third-ranked), her archery skills are so expert that they could be mistaken for magic.

A Short Story About the Spirit Archer

However, she is quite lazy in her private life, sleeping until noon on her days off, not wearing underwear, and never cleaning up, so her room is a mess. She was an expert in goblin extermination, so she brought him a request, but at first she did not like him. However, after they exterminated goblins together, she began to think that she wanted him to "go on an adventure," and those around her believe that she has feelings for him. Although it is unclear exactly how they are different, she is technically a high elf, and in volume 7 it was revealed that she is a princess in her hometown.

Dwarf Shaman

An old dwarf. He seems to be a long-lived species, but not as long as an elf, and is 107 years old. He is a cheerful person who likes the artisan-like Goblin Slayer, and follows him around the party.

A Short Story About the Dwarf Taoist

He is the mood maker of the party, teasing the fairy archer, supporting the lizard priest, and caring for the priestess. As a spirit user (shaman), he can use various catalysts to make the opponent intoxicated about four times a day, and can use magic to throw stones. In addition to magic, he can also use physical attacks such as hatchets and stone throwing, but as a Dwarf, his short limbs and low mobility are his weaknesses.

Lizard Priest

A lizardman priest. A so-called dragon priest. He is the leader of a party of fairy archers and has a martial temperament. Although he appears to have a gentle personality, he is quite ferocious, as when he nonchalantly states, "I became an adventurer to kill heretics, increase my rank, and become a dragon."

A Short Story About Lizards

Ever since he tried cheese during his adventure with Goblin Slayer, it has become his favorite food. Oh, nectar! In battle, as a dragon priest, he can use the power of his dragon ancestors to create weapons and dragon fang soldiers from bones four times a day, and he is also skilled in close combat using his lizard-man characteristics. Claws! Claws! Fangs! A tail! According to the author, he is the character with the most background and settings in the work. Also, he is actually a warm-blooded animal.
