The adventurers who belong to Goblin Slayer's guild come from a wide range of backgrounds, with many veterans and newcomers alike. Of course, only a few have adventured with Goblin Slayer, but the Goblin Slayer, who hunts only goblins on a daily basis, is somewhat of a celebrity in town. But what kind of people are the other adventurers who appear in Goblin Slayer? This time, we'll be introducing you to the spearman, an adventurer you'll often come across in town.
[Goblin Slayer] What kind of person is the spearman?

The Spearmaster travels with the Witch. Both are Silver-rank adventurers. Of course, they use spears. He's a close-range spearmaster, but there are scenes where he gets dragged along by the Witch if he gets too rude. This suggests that either the Witch has incredible strength or the Spearmaster is being gentle with him. The spearmaster's personality is generally friendly, and surprisingly kind. He seems to have a crush on the receptionist, and whenever he returns from an adventure he chats up her about all sorts of things. It is believed that one of the reasons he started appealing to the receptionist about his monster slayings in the first place was because Goblin Slayer received a stamina potion from the receptionist a long time ago. A spearmaster who was envious of this appears in the side story. Both the spearmaster and the witch seem to be very skilled adventurers, and are said to be the strongest adventurers on the frontier. They probably use good equipment as well. Currently, like the other silver-ranked adventurers, they seem to have hardly ever had to slay goblins.
[Goblin Slayer] The reason why the Spearmaster is an adventurer is unknown.

The only reason the Spearmaster is an adventurer has been revealed as personal. He says he's adventuring for his own sake. With the resurrection of the demon god, many adventurers in the capital are seeking fame or working away from home, but he's probably not drawn to those things. As he refers to adventures as dates, it's entirely possible that he's simply an adventurer who loves adventure. Or perhaps it's because he wants to be popular with girls! I'd love to hear more about this somewhere.

Goblin Slayer is clearly favored by the receptionist. The Spearmaster must be aware of this, too. When they first met at the guild, he had a wicked look on his face. However, they do not seem to be making fun of Goblin Slayer, who only hunts goblins. Like the witch, they seem to acknowledge his abilities. In fact, when Goblin Slayer asked the adventurers to hunt goblins, it was she who told them to make a request, not a request, which led to the other adventurers agreeing. The spearman declared that as an adventurer, everything he has is a reward, and then asked them to buy him a drink later - this scene was a classic, brimming with manliness.

The Spearmaster happened to be with Goblin Slayer when he came to pick up his armor that had been repaired. However, the Spearmaster did not seem to recognize Goblin Slayer because Goblin Slayer was unmasked. After a rambling, adventurer-like conversation, the spearman who met up with the witch said, "He was an unsociable guy. Well, I don't dislike people like that, but he didn't seem like he was just a talkative person."
[Goblin Slayer] A Surprisingly Calm Spearman

There aren't many scenes in the story that depict the spearman in combat. The only battle scene we see is when a group of goblins and orcs attacks the cowherd girl's home. The adventurers who have received a request from Goblin Slayer all come together to fight a group of goblins. The spearman is usually portrayed as having a slightly combative personality, but when it comes to combat he is incredibly calm. I thought he was a battle maniac, but that doesn't seem to be the case. He also spoke as if he wouldn't have any trouble against normal goblins. When Hoff and the Champion appear, he takes a break and drinks water. He also kindly advises the rookie adventurer to rest when he can. He's truly a Silver rank maniac.

The spearmaster and the witch are in a party. They seem to be quite well-known around here, and even junior adventurers seem to be sending them passionate glances. What's their relationship like? Are they romantically involved? There's no indication of this yet, so this may be something to keep an eye on. Basically, the front line is made up of spear users and the rear line is made up of witches, but it's unclear whether the witches specialize in attack or support. From the sound of the word witch, you'd think they'd be attack-type magic, but in the battle against the Goblin Lord group, they used a support defensive magic called Arrow Avoidance.

While he may seem like a showy character, this spearmaster also has a sincere side. His battle scenes are depicted more in the spinoff than in the main story. His candidness seems to be alive and well in the spinoff. We look forward to seeing more of him in the future.
