"Dungeon Food" is a hugely popular manga that has won first place in numerous awards, including "This Manga is Amazing! 2016 Men's Edition" and "Recommended Comics of 2016, Chosen by Booksellers Nationwide." It is one of Kui Ryouko's signature works, and is currently being serialized in the manga magazine "Harta," published by KADOKAWA. The series is both an adventure story, in which the protagonist conquers dungeons while cooking monsters that appear in classic fantasy works, and a gourmet story at the same time. In this article, we'll be introducing a ranking of the dishes that appear in "Dungeon Food" that are so tempting you'll want to eat them.

10th Place: Man-Eating Plant Tart

Appears in Volume 1. The ingredients for this dish (serving 3-4 people) are 200ml of remaining scorpion soup (the mizutaki (hot pot) of giant scorpion and walking mushrooms I made earlier), 80g of slime gelatin, 3 medium Paracelia, 5-6 medium Mia oak, 3 medium Betan, salt to taste, and a little pepper. Paracelia is a man-eating plant that grows primarily along animal trails, secreting a spider-like mucus that attracts creatures that touch it. The ripe Paracelia fruit is lightly steamed. Next, the stem and seed-like portion are removed; they are easily removed by cutting the stem into a round shape and twisting and pulling. The peeled skin is pounded to soften it, then spread in a frying pan to make the tart crust. The unripe fruit is added to the slime gelatin and scorpion soup and mixed until sticky. Once smooth, add the remaining scorpion soup and chopped nuts, pour into a frying pan, and heat. Once the surface starts to bubble, top with the remaining fruit and it's done. Although it's called a tart, it's solidified with slime gelatin and can be considered a tart imitation. Furthermore, although it looks like a tart, it contains salt and pepper, making it more of a main dish than a dessert.

9th Place: Tentacle and Aquatic Horse Stew Stewed with Undine

Appears in Volume 3. This dish is the first one Marsil makes. This recipe was created by Marsil, who had lost his magical powers, to efficiently absorb the magical energy of undines. It serves eight people and requires 2 liters of undines, 1 aquatic horse (shank), about 1 meter of tentacles, 2 onions, 2 carrots, a moderate amount of brown sauce, and salt and pepper. Peel and cut the potatoes, carrots, onions, and tentacles into bite-sized pieces. Season the aquatic horse with salt and pepper, brown the surface, then add the onions and carrots and stir-fry, then add the undines. Skim off any scum, add the potatoes and spices, and simmer until well combined. Undines are a spherical collection of spirits.

#8: Prayer for Protection from Misfortune! Exorcism Sorbet

Introduced in Volume 2. For four servings, the ingredients include 500ml of Nationless Holy Water, one sturdy bottle, a shimenawa (sacred rope) of your choice (regular rope works, if you don't have one), and at least five ghosts. Stateless Holy Water can be made by mixing water, treasure insect jam, liqueur, and slime liver. Ghosts, as the name suggests, are the dead that roam the dungeon. They wander in search of a body, and those they possess decay over time, eventually turning to dust. The ghost then wanders again in search of its next body. This time, rather than putting the ghost in the cooking, they were using it to repel ghosts, and it turned into sorbet, so it seems that it is also included in the ingredients. They poured Stateless Holy Water into a sturdy bottle, tied it with a shimenawa rope, and swung it around as if throwing it at the ghosts, and it turned into sorbet.

7th Place: Jack-o'-Lantern Potage and Dryad Cheese and Sautéed Flower Buds

Appears in Volume 5. The ingredients for this dish (serves 4) are 1 dryad berry, 1 mandrake (optional), 2 dryad buds, and salt and pepper to taste. A dryad is a plant that resembles a human, with eyes, a nose, a head, a body, and limbs. Split the dryad berries and put the crushed ingredients into a pot with water and boil. Once the ingredients are soft, turn off the heat and mash them in the pot. Once the mashed ingredients have become a paste, add water and season. Slice the dryad buds and fry them in butter, then add the mushrooms. Top with melted cheese and it's done.

Appears in Volume 5. The ingredients for this dish (serves four) are 200 grams of cockatrice belly, dryad berries (to taste), unidentified petrification herb leaves (to taste), mandrake berries and leaves (to taste), 200 grams of barley, 70 milliliters of cockatrice eggs, and seasonings to taste. Cook the barley, then chop the cockatrice belly, dryad berries, mandrake berries and leaves, and petrification herb leaves (?) to taste, season, and fry. Place the barley rice in a hollowed-out brick, top with the ingredients, and heat the brick. Finally, pour the cockatrice egg paste over the dish to complete the dish. The bowl is made from a hollowed-out dungeon cleaner brick, and even the bowl is edible. Dungeon cleaners are invisible magical creatures that live within dungeons. They perform their purpose, as their name suggests, by absorbing and breaking down waste and repairing damaged walls and floors with their secretions. According to the series' protagonist, Laios Toden, it tastes like a magical mix of caterpillars, iron, and lemon.

The ingredients for this, which serves four, are one large frog thigh, salt and pepper to taste, batter (flour, breadcrumbs, water) to taste, 50 grams of butter, one medium onion, 100 ml of red wine, one clove of garlic, 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Season the frog meat with salt and pepper, coat it in batter, and fry it in olive oil. Simmer the red wine and seasonings to make the sauce, and it's done.

Appears in Volume 5. The ingredients for this dish (serves four) are 1 kilogram of cockatrice shank, as many dryad buds as you like, a moderate amount of seasoning, and one pickling stone (marsil). A cockatrice is a dangerous monster, a hybrid of a chicken and a snake, with the power to turn anyone it bites to stone. This dish is made from a marsil that was petrified after being bitten by a cockatrice, and turned into a pickling stone. A mixture of shredded dryad buds and seasonings is placed at the bottom of a pot, and the pickling stone (marsil) is placed on top. The cockatrice meat is then soaked in salt water and placed on the lap of the marsil (pickling stone). After four days, the salted cockatrice meat is boiled and thinly sliced. Finally, toss with fermented dryad buds to complete the dish. According to the protagonist Laios Toden's favorite book, "Labyrinth Gourmet Guide," cockatrice tastes like stone.

3rd Place: Memories of the 5th Floor: Pilaf

Cut the mandrake, mushrooms, and other ingredients into 1cm cubes. Then, fry the cut ingredients and rice over low heat, season with the seasoning, and it's done.

Second Place: Mizutaki with Giant Scorpion and Walking Mushroom

Appears in Volume 1. The ingredients for this recipe (serves 3-4) are one giant scorpion, one walking mushroom, two mushroom legs, a moderate amount of algae (flower moss and star jelly), about five medium-sized scorpion stalks, dried slime (optional), and a moderate amount of water. Be sure to remove the claws, head, legs, and tail of the giant scorpion. While the "Labyrinth Gourmet Guide," a favorite of the protagonist, Laios Toden, says it's fine to eat it, the dwarf Sensi says the tail can cause stomach upset, so caution is advised. Also, make cuts in the flesh of the giant scorpion. This allows for better heat transfer, releases more broth, and improves the overall flavor of the pot. The innards are bitter and have a tough texture, so it's best to keep them for now. However, they make a great snack if marinated and fermented. Discard the top 3 cm of the walking mushroom. The walking mushroom legs are delicious, so it's recommended to include the whole thing. Peel the scorpion and cut it into chrysanthemum shapes. Dried slime can be made by either wiping off the water from slime thoroughly or rubbing salt into it and then drying it. However, since it takes a long time to dry, it is considered a luxury food ingredient. Simply put these ingredients in a pot and heat it up to finish.

Appears in Volume 4. After defeating the Red Dragon, party member Senshi's dream was to eat a Red Dragon, so you can really sense his passion for the dish. The ingredients are 1 kilogram of Fire Dragon meat, 50 milliliters of wine, and a generous amount of salt and pepper. After browning the surface with heated scales, marinate in the seasonings. This simple yet hearty Red Dragon meat looks delicious. Laios Toden praises it for its firm texture and rich flavor.
