Approximately 3,700 years have passed since the entire world was petrified and transformed into the Stone World. The key to undoing this petrification is a liquid called "Naitaru," which appears repeatedly throughout the series. With this liquid, all the petrified humans and animals around the world can be restored to their original state... but refining it is no easy feat. How did the world become the Stone World? Let's take a look at what Naitaru is and how it's made.
What exactly is Naitaru?
Naitaru is the name of a chemical, and its true identity is an industrial caustic. Senku believes that using this caustic on petrified creatures may have reversed the petrification. In fact, it seems that Senku and Taiju were able to revive from petrification thanks to this nitric acid.
Taiju was carried by Senku and doused in nitric acid.
After nearly 3,700 years of revival, Senku first attempted to revive the powerful Taiju. Senku realized that nitric acid could free Taiju from petrification, so he splashed it on him, but he failed to revive. Taiju was then carried into a cave where nitric acid was dripping, and after more than six months, he was finally able to revive.
To make Naitaru, you need ethanol!
Senku was revived from petrification after being exposed to nitric acid for nearly 3,700 years, but it's not possible to revive each individual over such a long period of time. That's where Naitaru came in, but to make Naitaru, you need ethanol in addition to nitric acid.
Taiju's inspiration accelerated the development of Naitaru!
While Senku was thinking that all he needed was alcohol, Taiju approached him with a look of inspiration. Senku didn't seem particularly hopeful at first, considering Taiju's muscle-brained personality, but when he heard what Taiju said, his eyes popped out of his head (lol). The item in question was grapes! Taiju suggested that they could make wine using grapes.
The first to notice something strange were the birds flying in the sky.
The entire world is petrified in Stone World, but not all living creatures were petrified at once. The first victims were the birds flying in the sky. Considering that petrified birds were found in various places, some kind of petrification-related strange phenomenon must have gradually arrived from the sky.
Birds are primarily used as test subjects for making Naitaru.
Resurrected from petrification, Senku and Taiju experimented with making Naitaru. During this time, birds were also doused in the liquid to test whether the revival liquid was complete. Every time Senku made a prototype, he would pour the liquid on a bird, bring it back to the lab, make a note of it, and place it on a shelf to observe the progress. It seems he repeated this process dozens of times.
The first bird revived with Naitaru was also a bird!
If the first animal to be petrified was a bird, it was also the first to be revived with Naita! While Senku miraculously recovered naturally from petrification, the first bird to be revived with the scientifically engineered Naita was the first bird sacrificed on Earth. It started with a single feather...and finally, the revival liquid was completed, and the bird took flight high into the sky.
A war breaks out over the miraculous cave where nitric acid, the raw material for Naita!
A miraculous cave is home to nitric acid, the ingredient for resurrection. The Chemical Kingdom, which is controlled by the Tsukasa Kingdom, launches a battle to reclaim the cave. Their goal is to successfully reclaim the cave with zero fatalities. Senku and his friends utilize the power of science to brilliantly accomplish this mission.
Summary of Naita's True Nature
Naita's true nature is a corrosive liquid made by mixing nitric acid and alcohol. However, the recipe requires great precision: 30% Miracle Water and 70% alcohol. If these numbers are off by even a few percent, it won't work as a revival liquid. Additionally, the process involves distillation and filtration, which are time-consuming and laborious... While we now know the true nature of Naita, it's not something the average person would be able to make.
