Episodes 1 and 2 of Dororo, based on the original work by Osamu Tezuka, have been released! The anime is incredibly polished, and we're excited to see what happens next.
Animation with Outstanding Artwork

Among the winter 2019 anime, this one shows a lot of effort put into its animation. The images are incredibly beautiful, and the movements are incredibly smooth. It seems like it took a lot of time and money. Perhaps it's because it's a Tezuka Osamu work. I hope they can finish production on time and maintain this quality for all episodes!
Hyakkimaru Can't Speak in the Anime

Hyakkimaru can't speak. In fact, in the original work, he can. He's constantly talking to Dororo. Telepathically. It's unclear why this change was made, but there seems to be some reason for this major change. It's interesting to see whether it's for the production team's expressive purposes, or whether it's related to the story. It's also interesting to see whether he'll be able to talk to Dororo in the future.
A key character in the anime? The Priest's Role

The priest appears early in the story. In Episode 2, "Bandai," he is present with Hyakkimaru and Dororo. In this story, the priest gives off the impression that he could be a key character, but in fact, his appearance is also very different from the original. The priest appears in a scene where he kills a monster after the midwife sets the baby Hyakkimaru adrift on a boat, but in the original, the mother and father set the baby adrift on a boat together. In the original, the priest's role was to teach Hyakkimaru the importance of trying his best to live.
The anime also follows suit, with Hyakkimaru regaining his body.

In the first episode, Hyakkimaru defeats the spirits and regains his skin. Originally, the demon granted his father's wish, and in exchange, Hyakkimaru lost many of his body parts. In the original manga, all of Hyakkimaru's body parts would be restored if he defeated 48 demons. However, in the anime, the father shouts "12 demons!" in the Hall of Hell, so the number of demons has been significantly reduced to match the anime. Since it's 12 episodes long, each episode will likely involve defeating one demon. However, once Hyakkimaru regains his body, his father's wish seems to be nullified. After Hyakkimaru regained parts of his body, misfortune befell his territory. Will he regain his body in the future?
