10th Place: Enmu
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
Our pick for 10th place goes to Enmu, who was also a Lower Rank One. Originally an Upper Rank One, he was favored by Muzan Kibutsuji and received a blood boost, making him a promising rookie... but unfortunately, his first opponent was the Pillar Rengoku. Furthermore, Tanjiro and his friends destroyed his neck, his weak point, and he disappeared from this world before he could demonstrate his newly acquired powers.
9th Place: Rui
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
In 9th place is Rui, also known as Upper Rank Five. It may seem odd that he's ranked higher than Upper Rank One, but he clearly put up a more memorable battle. He was no match for Tanjiro and Nezuko's combined forces, overwhelming them in strength, but the situation changed completely when Tomioka came to his rescue. As expected, he was no match for the Hashira and was killed.
By the way, what about the other Lower Rank demons?
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
We introduced Lower Ranks One and Five in 10th and 9th place, but what about the other Lower Rank Twelve Kizuki? After Rui's death, they were brutally killed without any fight scenes or even a chance to demonstrate their abilities. It was a bit sad to see them, who had risen to the ranks of the Twelve Kizuki, killed so easily like minor characters. She looked like a weakling, but...
8th Place: Daki
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
8th place goes to Daki, one half of Upper Rank Six. She's a beautiful woman who would probably give Nezuko a run for her money in terms of beauty and sexiness. However, as Upper Rank Six, Gyutaro is the main force, and Daki's fighting power is not that great. She was decapitated by Zenitsu and Inosuke, and was so strong that she was powerless against the Hashira.
7th Place: Gyokko
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
In 7th place is Gyokko, the Upper Rank Five who emerged from the jar. Although he possessed the strength to overwhelm Tokito, the Mist Pillar, at one point, his strange obsessions and lack of finishing touches were fatal weaknesses. Tokito had left him without finishing him off, allowing him to escape from his technique, and after he developed a bruise and was awakened, he was defeated in an instant.
6th Place: Hantengu
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
In sixth place is Hantengu, who is always afraid of something. Although he may look weak, his strength ranks as Upper Rank Four. He is no ordinary demon, as he manages to hide his presence so well that Tokito and Tanjiro are unable to detect him until they are close by, and he even dodges Tokito's techniques. Another tricky part is that his small size makes him difficult to find when he runs away and hides.
It's not the Hantengu himself who fights in battle, but the demons of joy, anger, sadness, and happiness.
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
When Hantengu is cut, it splits into four demons, summoning the emotions of joy, anger, sadness, and happiness written on its tongue. The Hantengu's true form hides, and these four are in charge of combat. Among them, the demon of anger became the leader, eventually absorbing the other three and standing in front of Tanjiro and the others. It's a classic Jump character, where the smaller the character, the stronger they become (lol).
5th Place: Gyutaro
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
In fifth place is Gyutaro, Upper Rank Six. He is one of the Upper Ranks Five and Four, but even compared to them, his abilities seem to be superior. To defeat him, he would have had to cut his neck at the same time as Daki, so if he had hidden Daki and fought alone, it might have been difficult for even a Pillar to defeat him...
It was Douma who turned Gyutaro into a demon
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
Gyutaro is Upper Rank Six, but it was none other than Douma who scouted Gyutaro and Daki to become demons when they were still humans. Incidentally, Douma was Upper Rank Six at the time. Gyutaro had risen to the same rank as Douma at that time. (Currently, Douma is Upper Rank Two.)
4th Place: Akaza
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
In fourth place is Akaza, Upper Rank Three. To date, he is the only demon who has fought against the Pillars and killed Rengoku. He holds a delicate position among the Upper Ranks, and has no sense of camaraderie whatsoever, appearing to be hostile towards both the Pillars and demons other than Muzan. He acknowledges Rengoku's abilities, and tried to persuade him to become a demon until the very end. His fighting style is hand-to-hand combat, which gives the impression that he is simply strong.
Third Place: Douma
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
In third place is Douma, the Upper Rank Two. He's a joker whose thoughts are hard to discern, but despite becoming a demon later than Akaza, who we introduced earlier, he is ranked as Upper Rank Two, which suggests he won the battle for the rank of Upper Rank. He has a cheerful but brutal personality. In the original work, he is able to withstand Shinobu's poison and overwhelms even the Pillars.
Douma is a sworn enemy of Shinobu, the Insect Pillar!
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
In fact, Douma once killed Shinobu's older sister, Kanae, in a surprise attack, which has led to Shinobu harboring a strong grudge against him. And now, Douma and Shinobu finally meet face to face. Douma is currently overwhelming Shinobu, but... as Kanao appears a lot as Shinobu's stepdaughter, I'm worried that Shinobu will be defeated and Kanao will have to defeat the enemy.
Second Place: Kokushibo
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
In second place is Kokushibo, Upper Rank One. While much about this demon is still shrouded in mystery, he clearly exudes an aura of extraordinary genius. He has scars on his face and neck, and it is interesting to know what their connection is to the scars on Tanjiro and the others. When Akaza and Douma got into a fight, he cut off Akaza's arm with impossibly fast speed.
Have Kokushibo and Tanjiro met in the past?
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
What's most intriguing about Kokushibo is how similar he looks to someone Tanjiro met in the past. It's likely they're the same person, but how exactly did he end up becoming Upper Rank One?
Number 1: Kibutsuji Muzan
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
Number 1, of course, is this person! Kibutsuji Muzan! He is the pinnacle of all demons, and even the Upper Rank demons bow their heads on their knees before Muzan. He will behead even an Upper Rank member in an instant if they talk back or say something vague that has not been confirmed. Even Akaza, who openly harbors hostility towards Douma and Kokushibo, becomes an obedient servant in front of Muzan.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Demon Strength Ranking Summary
Source: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba © Koyoharu Gotouge/Shueisha, Aniplex, ufotable
So far, what do you think of the rankings? This time, we've only ranked the enemy characters, so we haven't included Nezuko... but the strength of the Upper Rank demons currently fighting in the original work, as well as Kokushibo and Muzan, is still shrouded in mystery, so we're looking forward to future developments. Kokushibo in particular is shrouded in mystery, unlike the other demons, so we can't take our eyes off him.
