"Cells at Work" is one of the most talked about anime of the summer of 2018. Its appeal lies in its unprecedented worldview, which gives us a glimpse into the daily work of the 37 trillion cells that exist within the body. This time, we'll be looking at the red blood cells, who are the protagonists of the series. These female characters work hard to transport nutrients and oxygen every day, and they appear throughout the series.

The main function of red blood cells is to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide. Blood flowing through the body is primarily made up of three components: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. As the name suggests, red blood cells are red, which is why human blood is red. In creatures with blue blood (mainly mollusks), the cells that perform the same function as red blood cells contain copper, which is why the blood appears blue. Red blood cell levels are measured and used as an indicator during health checkups, as they play such an important role in the body.

In the story, the Red Blood Cell is portrayed as both adorable and clumsy. He often gets lost and causes trouble for the White Blood Cell. But there's something lovable about him, and he works hard. He tries to complete his work alone until the very end, and even when faced with adversity, he never gives up and continues to complete his work. Perhaps this is why he has such a good relationship with other cells.
