The fourth season of Bungo Stray Dogs, a unique series featuring characters such as Nakajima Atsushi and Akutagawa Ryunosuke, will be broadcast in 2023. It is a popular series that has aired up to three seasons in the past, and the original serialization is still going strong with no end in sight. Before watching the fourth season, many people may want to review the previous works. In this article, we will look back on the story of the third season, following the original work! Please note that there will be spoilers!
Where in the original does the third season cover?
What volumes of the original manga does the third season of "Bungo Stray Dogs" (hereinafter referred to as Bungo Stray Dogs) cover? Bungo Stray Dogs Season 3 is an anime adaptation of volumes 10 to 13 of the original manga. In this article, we would like to introduce the contents of Season 3 along with the original manga!
Summary of Volume 10
First, I would like to introduce the summary of Volume 10 of the original work. After finishing the conflict with the guild, the Armed Detective Agency begins searching for Dostoevsky, the culprit who crashed the White Whale. The clue is the chip for remote interference that was attached to the back of the White Whale's control terminal. The culprit's aim was to use that chip to crash the White Whale into Yokohama. To investigate the clue, Kunikida Doppo and Nakajima Atsushi head to Katai Tayama, a former detective employee. Katai Tayama's supernatural power (a special ability in this work) is the ability called "futon". It is an ability that allows one to analyze electronic devices within sight at speeds several dozen times faster than an ordinary person without touching them. However, because he is lovesick, he is unable to use his ability, so Tayama asks Kunikida and the others to find a woman, because he wants to confess his feelings to a girl whose name he does not even know. Meanwhile, the culprit, Dostoevsky, has already been captured by the Port Mafia. A (Ace), an executive, takes action to give Dostoevsky the punishment he deserves.
Dostoevsky's Purpose
However, A's real purpose was to join forces with Dostoevsky and kill Mori Ogai, the leader of the group. Dostoevsky then proposes a card game, with the condition that if he wins, he will be released, and if he loses, he will become his subordinate. A is a poker master and accepts the game with a relaxed look on his face. However, A misjudged his supernatural powers due to false information that Dostoevsky had spread in advance, fell into a trap, and ultimately took his own life. Dostoevsky's goal is to get a list of the supernatural abilities of the mafia members from A. That's why he intentionally let himself be captured by the Port Mafia. Everything was as Dostoevsky had planned. Dostoevsky planned to move on to the next action to achieve his goal.
Summary of the plot of Volume 11
Next, I would like to introduce the plot of Volume 11 of the original manga. In the night city of Yokohama, Fukuzawa Yukichi, the president of the Armed Detective Agency, is attacked by a supernatural hunter. Then, his body is eaten away by some kind of poison that even Yosano Akiko's supernatural ability cannot cure, and he falls into a state of unconsciousness. Furthermore, Mori Ogai, the head of the Port Mafia, was also attacked and poisoned. In fact, it was Dostoevsky who attacked Fukuzawa and Mori. While fleeing, Dostoevsky confronts Dazai Osamu. Dostoevsky tells Dazai Osamu his purpose. Dostoevsky says that his goal is to obtain a "blank literary book where anything written becomes true" and create a world without supernatural powers. To that end, the Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia were obstacles. That is why he attacked Fukuzawa Yukichi and Mori Ogai to eliminate both organizations. Dostoevsky explains that the true nature of the poison that is tormenting the two is the supernatural power of "cannibalism." It is a terrifying power in which a very small supernatural powered organism grows inside the host's body over 48 hours and eventually eats through the bodies of the two hosts. However, if either of them dies, the power stops. In other words, it suggested that a conflict would begin between the Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia over the lives of both Fukuzawa Yukichi and Mori Ogai.
Summary of the plot of Volume 12
Next, we will introduce the plot of Volume 12 of the original manga. The Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia have entered into an all-out conflict due to Dostoevsky's strategy. The hospital where Fukuzawa Yukichi is hospitalized is immediately completely surrounded by the Port Mafia. The Armed Detective Agency leaves Tanizaki as a messenger and leaves the hospital. They tell the mafia that they will capture the psychic who created the virus, and the members of the Armed Detective Agency rush to resolve the situation. If they cannot catch the psychic who created the virus in time, Tanizaki's life is in danger. However, due to Dostoevsky's schemes, the Armed Detective Agency's investigation is in trouble. As promised, the mafia tries to take Tanizaki's life, but Tanizaki manages to escape using Kunikida's psychic powers, which had been planted in him beforehand, and with the support of Kyoka. Meanwhile, Fukuzawa Yukichi and Mori Ogai face off in a fateful place to stop the conflict between the organizations. The two then begin a big game that will decide the fate of the two major organizations. Fukuzawa Yukichi destroys Mori Ogai's psychic power, Ellis, but Mori Ogai musters his last strength to fight back. Then, just when it seems that Mori Ogai will deal the final blow to Fukuzawa and the battle will be over, Natsume Soseki appears. After being persuaded by Natsume Soseki, the Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia decide to cooperate again.
Summary of Volume 13
Finally, I would like to introduce the summary of Volume 13 of the original manga. With the help of Natsume Soseki, Tayama Katai escaped from Dostoevsky's shooting, but he succeeded in identifying the rat's nest in the House of Death. So Dazai enlists Atsushi and Akutagawa to help him infiltrate the hideout. Their first goal was to capture a "cannibal" ability user. However, the two are infected with a virus by Pushkin, a cannibalistic psychic. The two chase the fleeing Pushkin, but a new psychic, Ivan Goncharov, blocks their path. The two struggle against Ivan's attacks, but in the end, they defeat Ivan with a combination of the Moon Beast and Rashomon, "Moon Beast Rashomon Black Tiger Claws." Meanwhile, Pushkin is captured by Fukuzawa Yukichi and Mori Ogai, but Dostoevsky is nowhere to be found at the hideout. Dostoevsky is enjoying a leisurely tea time at a cafe far from the hideout. Then, as he tries to make his escape, he is stopped by Dazai, who has already arrived there. Dazai has been working with Fitzgerald. And so the conflict comes to a safe end.
How much of the anime will be adapted into the fourth season?
The third season covers the story up to the middle of volume 13 of the original work. How many volumes of the original manga will be animated in the fourth season? The "Hound" appears in the video announcing the production of the fourth season. The battle with the "Hound" begins in volume 15, so it's safe to assume that up to volume 15 will be animated. It's hard to imagine that a character who doesn't appear would be shown in a preview video. There are no good scenes to cut the story off after volume 15, so it makes you wonder where the story will end, but in volume 19, there is a scene where all the members of the Armed Detective Agency are gathered together. I think it's a good break if we get to this scene, so I think the fourth season will probably be animated up to this scene. If the story is adapted from the middle of volume 3 to the middle of volume 19, it will be about five volumes of story. However, it's unclear whether one season of anime with the content of five volumes is a lot or a little. Therefore, I tried to check how many volumes of episodes of Bungo Stray Dogs were animated in the first season. As a result, the first season was from volume 1 to volume 4, the second season was from volume 4 to volume 9, and the third season was from volume 10 to the middle of volume 13 as mentioned above. Except for the third season, about five volumes of the manga are animated in one season, so I think it's quite possible that the fourth season will be animated up to the middle of volume 19.
Summary of the plot of the third season
The third season is full of highlights, such as the conflict between two major forces and the main characters being put in danger of losing their lives. As a writer, I think the third season is the most interesting so far, but I'm hoping that the fourth season will be even more interesting! I'm also looking forward to the new characters! That's all for now. Thank you for reading.
