The main character is Myne. Lutz travels with her, and Benno is their chaperone. From the middle of the story onward, "Ascendance of a Bookworm" revolves around these three characters. However, in addition to these main characters, the series also features many charming supporting characters. So, this time, we'll be introducing some of the other characters, rather than the three main characters!
Tuuri
First, we'll introduce Myne's older sister, Tuuri. While Myne inherited her father's blue hair, Tuuri has emerald green hair, just like her mother. If I had to pick out Tuuli's good points... it's literally everything! Appearance, personality, caring nature... she's perfect in every way, to the point that I wonder if a story could be told with Tuuli as the heroine. Tuuli is so flawless that even Myne says, "Tuuli is my angel." She dreams of working as a seamstress in the future, and is good at sewing... but she can't compare to Myne, who also sewed in her previous life, and she has childish, sulky moments, but that's also what makes her so cute.
Eva
Myne's mother, who raises the sickly girl with care, but also has a strict and reliable personality. While she is sometimes puzzled by Myne's eccentric behavior, she generally shows some understanding of her strange behavior. (He even ignores Myne's rainbow-colored eyes, not even noticing.) His family isn't wealthy, so he doesn't have the luxury of worrying about fashion, but that doesn't mean he's uninterested in it. When Myne made a "simple shampoo" (like a shampoo) to make Tuuli's hair shiny, he stopped her from throwing away the hot water she'd used and used it himself.
Günther
Myne's father has blue hair, just like hers. He usually works as a gatekeeper and serves as a squad leader. He lives a passionate and impulsive life. However, he is a doting father to his two daughters and shows immature behavior at every opportunity. When Myne praises another man, no matter who it is, he becomes jealous and upset, but when Myne praises Gunther to curry favor, he quickly improves. However, when Myne is in danger, he is willing to fight, even if the opponent is a nobleman, and is prepared to face capital punishment to protect her, making him a charming character with his manly side.
Otto
Otto is a colleague of Myne's father, Gunther, whose main job is writing and doing calculations. For Myne, who dreams of reading books, learning to read and write is a big step, so Otto asks her to become his literacy teacher. After Myne became able to do calculations, he helps her with her work as her assistant, giving her slate pencils (similar to chalk) in return. Benno of the Gilberta Trading Company is Otto's brother-in-law, and this is how Myne and Lutz later meet Benno. Originally a traveling merchant, he sold all his possessions to obtain citizenship in order to marry a devoted husband.
Marc
When Myne and Lutz began working as apprentice merchants at the Gilberta Trading Company, Otto was Benno's right-hand man, taking care of their basic needs. He has characteristic narrowed eyes and a gentlemanly personality, the complete opposite of Benno's. He is always calm, collected, and reliable, and even when traveling with Benno, he provides solid support from a distance.
Corinna
Otto's wife and Benno's younger sister. After losing her parents, she was lovingly raised by Benno, and due to his concern for her, she lived with Otto above the Gilberta Trading Company after their marriage. Despite her young age, she is a top-notch seamstress, and Tuuli admires her. When Tuuli found out that Myne was going to meet her, she was envious. Her looks and style are undeniable...and her gentle demeanor and gentle personality exude a gentle aura. However, she feels a little guilty about Otto giving up his career as a traveling merchant to marry her, and sometimes asks Myne how Otto is doing as a guard. Still, she seems relieved when Myne tells her that Otto is doing well as a merchant.
Corinna looks absolutely beautiful all dressed up! Seeing her, Otto...
Corinna, already a beautiful woman, becomes a stunning beauty when she dresses up with a simple shampoo. The moment Otto, who was waiting outside the room, caught sight of her, he suddenly asked Myne, "Do you remember what you need?" He dismissed her with a simple, obvious dismissal. Myne received the large amount of nails she was looking for and left, satisfied. What happened to Otto and Corinna afterward... I'll leave that to your imagination (lol).
Frida
The daughter of the guild leader, she suffers from the same disease as Myne: "Flesh-eating." Like Myne, she's small in stature due to the flesh-eating disorder, but inside she's a fine merchant! He buys various things from Myne, including hair ornaments she makes and baking recipes. He also wants to own Myne, who creates so many things, and invites her to quit the Gilberta Company and work for him through his introduction. By this time, they have already decided to become a nobleman and his mistress, and are opening a shop in the noble district. He likes Myne very much as a friend, and they have had many tea parties together.
Gustav
Frieda's uncle and the head of the introduction guild. He and Benno are on bad terms, and they end up arguing whenever they meet. He immediately introduced his new wife to Benno's mother, whose husband had just died, and sounded out Benno, who had just lost his girlfriend, as a potential marriage partner... In short, he is a nemesis to Benno. Like his granddaughter Frieda, he is very interested in Myne, and invites her to quit Gilberta Trading Company and come live with him. (Myne politely declined, having been informed in advance that this would happen.) Even so, when Myne told him that she owed him a debt of gratitude that could never be repaid, he persisted, saying that he would repay it himself.
Ferdinand
This mysterious man appears in the first episode of the anime and in every preview. He makes his full appearance towards the end of the story, taking on the role of high priest. Despite his young age, he is talented and intelligent, and when Myne's magical powers go out of control, he risks his own life to stop them, even coughing up blood. He later resolves the issue with Myne's family, and later takes on the role of caring for her after she begins attending the temple. While he didn't appear much in the first season, he becomes a major character in the second season, making him a character worth keeping an eye on.
Temple Head
As his name suggests, he is the most important person in the temple. His impressive beard and gentle appearance make him seem like a truly rotten aristocrat, but inside he's the epitome of a corrupt aristocrat! He assumed Myne's magical powers and wealth made him a nobleman and treated her with courtesy. However, when Myne brought her parents to him, he changed his attitude completely when he discovered they weren't nobles. He arrogantly ordered them to hand over Myne, threatening to exact the death penalty if her parents disobeyed. Hearing this enrages Myne, she eventually collapses, foaming at the mouth, due to Myne's magical powers. Even after Myne enters the temple, she continues to harass her.
Carla
Lutz's mother, the strong-willed mother of four siblings! Although she has few scenes among the supporting characters, when Lutz faces the question of whether to follow his family's wishes and become a craftsman or pursue his own path as a merchant, Carla initially opposes the decision, but ultimately supports him. I personally think the scene where Carla, who was so opposed at first, finally recognizes his enthusiasm and supports him is a great one, so even though she's a bit of a low-key character, I definitely want everyone to pay attention to her.
Summary of Sub-Characters
So far, I've introduced the sub-characters that appear in "Ascendance of a Bookworm." What did you think? Personally, I loved Tuuli, so I wish she'd had more screen time (lol). Also, while I introduced the High Priest as a sub-character this time, I'm sure she'll become a main character in the second season of the anime, so be sure to keep an eye out for her.
