Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, or Re:Zero for short, has become a huge hit as an alternate world fantasy loop story! The long-awaited second season of the anime was recently announced. This article introduces the members of the Witch's Cult's Deadly Sin Archbishops who will likely appear in the second season! Please note that this article contains some spoilers!

What is the Witch's Cult?

Petelgeuse's Fingertips

This cult is feared and dangerous in this world. They worship the "Witch of Envy, Satella," and commit crimes such as murder across the world. For this reason, Witch Cult members are considered so dangerous that it is permitted to kill them on sight.

It is also rumored that one day, a qualified person will suddenly receive the Witch Cult's holy book, the "Gospel," and upon reading it, they will become a devout Witch Cult member.

What are the Witch Cult's Sin Archbishops?

Petelgeuse Reading the Gospel

The Sin Archbishops introduced in this article are the so-called Witch Cult executives. They are also unique in that they are in charge of the "deadly sins" that witches carry. In the first season of the anime, Petelgeuse, in charge of Sloth, appeared as a sort of final boss! Petelgeuse's madness symbolizes the dangers of the Witch's Cult. However, according to the author, Petelgeuse is the most sensible of the Sin Archbishops...

"Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti, In Charge of Sloth"

Petelgeuse Introduces Himself

Let's start by reviewing Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti, the familiar In Charge of Sloth who appeared in the first season of the anime. He's a skinny man with bobbed green hair. His impressive appearance isn't the only thing that makes him so striking. He's a madman who frequently engages in self-harm and bites off his fingers when excited.

He possesses the power of the "Invisible Hand," killing his opponents before they even realize what's happening. He can also possess those with the right abilities, so Petelgeuse can only be defeated by defeating all of his minions, known as "Fingertips."

At the end, you'll meet Satella, but...

Petelgeuse, driven solely by obsession

In the first season of the anime, Subaru repeatedly uses "Return by Death" and finally corners Petelgeuse with Julius. Knowing that Petelgeuse would possess Subaru, Subaru uses the power of "Return by Death" to drive him out. Petelgeuse hears Satella's voice, but is told, "It's not you," and is fatally wounded. Given how much Petelgeuse loves Satella, this is a heartbreaking reality...

"Gluttony: Rai Batenkaitos"

Rai Batenkaitos

A small boy with a scrawny body and long hair. She has three personalities: "Gourmet," "Bad Glutton," and "Gluttony," and only when in her "Bad Glutton" personality does she transform into a middle-aged man. By eating "names," she has the power to steal the memories of those around her, and even to steal her own memories. As you'd expect from her appearance, her personality is that of a child.

Incidentally, in the novel, Rem has been forgotten by everyone except Subaru due to Rai's power, and remains asleep.

Regulus Corneas: Greed

Regulus Corneas

Regulus is famous among the Sin Archbishops for causing great damage around the world. He is a slender man with white hair and an ordinary appearance. He is extremely self-centered and self-conscious. His greed lives up to his name, and if someone expresses an opinion that even slightly disagrees with his own, he will become enraged and attempt to kill the person.

His powers are "Lion's Heart" and "Little King." "Lion's Heart" can stop time for anyone it touches, making it invincible and turning the object into its most powerful weapon. "Little King" can overcome the drawbacks of "Time Stop" by parasitizing its own small heart into that of its target.

"Wrathful Sirius Romanee-Conti"

Sirius Romanee-Conti

Speaking of "Romanee-Conti," we're talking about Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti, who garnered attention in the first season of the anime. Sirius loves Petelgeuse and calls him his wife. However, in reality, she has barely spoken to Betelgeuse, and although she believes he loves her, this is a complete misunderstanding.

For someone in charge of Wrath, she speaks sensibly, but she has a tendency to commit mass murder, and her words and actions are incoherent... By the way, she is a woman with glaring eyes that peek out from behind a face wrapped in bandages, giving her a frightening impression. Her power is the ability to share emotions with multiple people.

"Capella Emeralda Lugnica: In Charge of Lust"

Capella Emeralda Lugnica

When you hear Capella's name, the first thing that catches your eye is the "Lugnica" in it. Since "Lugnica" is the name of this country, one can assume that Capella is a member of the royal family. However, it has not yet been revealed whether Capella is a member of the royal family of Lugnica.

Her powers include the ability to transform into various forms and the ability to change the appearance of others. Capella has transformed many ordinary people into pigeons and lizards, but it's unclear whether they will return to their original forms. She appears to be a deformed blonde girl with bucktooth... she looks like someone.

What is the relationship between the extinct royal family and Capella?

Angry Felt

The reason Emilia and her friends are running for the throne and trying to choose the next queen is because there is no royal family left. It's said that long ago, the royal family was attacked by the Black Snake, one of the three great magical beasts, and a strange disease broke out, leaving no survivors. However, Capella's body is filled with "Dragon's Blood," said to be the hidden treasure of the Kingdom of Lugnica. Isn't it a stretch to say she's unrelated?

The positions for Jealousy and Pride are vacant...

Subaru Possessed by Betelgeuse

It makes sense that the positions are vacant, since it's unclear how to handle someone in charge of Jealousy in a religion that worships Satella, the Witch of Jealousy. However, the reason for the vacant position for Pride remains a mystery... Petelgeuse, the Sloth Archbishop, suggests that "arrogance" might be Subaru, but Subaru doesn't understand what that means and just ignores it. It's still a mystery, but perhaps Subaru is the arrogant one!

Summary of the Sin Archbishops

Mad Petelgeuse

Petelgeuse was the only Archbishop of the Witch's Cult to appear in the anime. It's expected that he will play a major role in the story in Season 2. The author even goes so far as to say that they're even crazier than Petelgeuse, who appeared in Season 1 as the symbol of the Witch's Cult's madness! I'm already excited to see these Archbishops speak and move in the anime.
