[The Atelier of Witch Hat] Who is the Witch Met at the Festival?

Hat with a brimmed hat

The witch we met at the festival is considered to be the mastermind behind "The Atelier of Witch Hat." She's wearing a hat with a brimmed hat. What kind of person is she? You're probably curious!

The witch we met at the festival looks like this

Hat with a Brim

The witch we met at the festival looks like this. It's scary, isn't it? She wears a triangular hat and a large, single-eyed ornament that hides her face. In the story, she's called "Hat with a Brim," and her true identity is still shrouded in mystery.

The witch we met at the festival who sold Coco a "magic picture book"

At the festival, "Hat with a Brim" sells a magical picture book to young Coco. Coco is the story's protagonist. A pure and honest girl who dreams of magic. In fact, this encounter would have a major impact on Koko's life.

The Magic Picture Book and the Bonus Pen

Koko's eyes sparkle

As a child, Koko bought a "magic picture book" at the urging of her hat. She kept the "bonus pen" that came with it, and the book always contained real magic spells.

Koko was originally an "ignorant"

Opening Scene

Koko loves magic. She dreams of becoming a wizard, but in reality, she is an "ignorant" herself. In this world, it is said that you cannot become a wizard unless you have been able to use magic since birth. However, Koko refuses to give up, and is always playing with magic. One day, a wizard named "Kifree" appears before her.

Koko Sees Magic

Koko accidentally sees "Kifree" using magic. In fact, in this world, it is forbidden to even watch the use of magic. However, once Koko sees it, she realizes that the "magic picture book" she bought from Hat with a Brim at the festival is actually a model for drawing the magic circle needed to cast a spell. Furthermore, the "bonus pen" she received at the time was specifically designed for drawing the magic circle.

Using Forbidden Magic

Koko's Apprenticeship

That night, Koko immediately copies the magic circle from the magic picture book and begins to cast a spell. However, the spell she used is actually a forbidden one. Keefree appears and removes Koko from the spell. Koko's mother, along with the house, is turned to stone by the spell. To help her mother, Kifree took Coco on as his apprentice without erasing her memories. And so Coco's story began.

What was the witch's goal at the festival?

The "Hat with a Brim" sold a picture book to little Coco. The magical book contained forbidden spells. This could be interpreted as Coco trying to persuade Coco to use forbidden magic. If that's the case, the problem becomes much more complicated.

Isn't it decided at birth?

At this point, doesn't it raise questions about Koko's ability to use magic? Originally, it was believed that only wizards could use magic. However, that wasn't actually the case. In reality, anyone could use magic, as long as they knew how to use it. However, it's extremely dangerous for someone who doesn't understand magic to simply cast it blindly. In fact, Koko's mother suffered a tragic fate. For these reasons, the world is set up so that people aren't allowed to see the casting of magic, and those who aren't wizards can't use it.

About the Magic Picture Book and Pen

Koko Receiving the Hat

When Koko was little, she received a "magic picture book" and a pen at a festival. These were the tools she needed to cast magic. Ever since she was little, Koko had always dreamed of becoming a wizard. But it's surprising to learn that she's actually known how to cast magic all this time. The brimmed hat was probably intended to get Koko to use forbidden magic. To what extent is the brimmed hat's plan fulfilled, and what is its true purpose? The fact that there are so many unknowns makes it all the more spooky.

What is Koko's relationship with the witch she met at the festival? Introducing Keyfree!

Kifree is Coco's magic teacher. She became his apprentice. It seems there's some connection to the wizard she met at the festival, but the details are unknown.

Kifree is usually a gentle, handsome guy, but...

Kifree

Kifree is popular with readers. His fluffy silver hair, shoulder-length glasses, and gentle smile are truly cool. He actually has many female fans. He's also kind-hearted and never gets angry with his students. However, when it comes to "brimmed hats," his eyes change color and he becomes a completely different person, becoming desperate. There's no doubt something happened in the past. What exactly happened?

Is he still searching for the brimmed hat?

Smiling Ki-Free

The magic ink Coco used was connected to the brimmed hat. Magic ink is a liquid used in casting spells. When Nornoa found out, he tried to appeal to the Magic Police, the police force of the magical world. However, Ki-Free completely refused. He said he didn't want to give up his precious connection to the brimmed hat. This definitely suggests something happened in the past. Not only the brimmed hat, but Ki-Free himself is also shrouded in mystery.

The person who sold the magical picture book! What kind of character is Koko?

Koko is the protagonist of this story. She is innocent, pure, and honest. She has a strong desire for magic, and so she became a wizard. She accidentally used a forbidden spell and turned her mother to stone. What adventures will she embark on to save her mother?

Her eyes sparkle when it comes to magic

Koko's eyes sparkle

Koko absolutely loves magic. When the topic of magic comes up, her eyes sparkle with joy. She's so adorable, it's almost heartwarming. After a tragic incident, Koko gained the ability to use magic. What kind of adventures will she embark on? It's so exciting!

Here's what she looks like

Colored illustration of Koko

She looks so good in that pointed hat! Although she's a magician, she reminds me of a Koropokkuru. Besides Koko, Keyfree has three other apprentices, each with their own unique personalities. However, they work together and embark on an adventure.

Keefree's Apprentices

All the Apprentices

The apprentices look like this. They're all very cute girls. The one with the black hair is "Agathe," the one with the fluffy hair is "Tetia," and the one with the long, straight hair is "Riche." The apprentices may not have been united at first, but they gradually become more united.

Is Koko hoping for a brimmed hat? What is the intention of the witch we met at the festival?

Tongari Hat

There's something intriguing about Tongari Hat's lines. He turns to Coco and declares, "You are our hope." We don't know the details of why Coco is our hope, or why Tongari Hat said such a thing. He also says, "Magic is a miracle that colors the world." At first glance, this way of thinking seems similar to Coco and the others. Perhaps Tongari Hat and Coco are the same deep down. However, using forbidden magic is still not good. Even if you believe in the miraculous power of magic, there may be problems with how you use it.

What is the other "Brim Hat"?

So far, we've been introducing the "Brim Hat" character, characterized by a triangular hat and decorated eyes. However, there's actually another "Brim Hat" character.

Here's what the other "Brim Hat" looks like.

Brim Hat

Here's the visual of the other "Brim Hat." It feels a bit different from the "Brim Hat" character we've introduced so far. While we can see he's wearing a hat and a cape, the rest of his body is completely transparent, which makes him seem quite creepy. He appeared during Agate and the others' second test (the test to become wizards), but we don't know much about him. All we know is that he's incredibly spooky and terrifying. How will he figure into the story?

Interesting Lines

Tongari Hat

Here's another intriguing line from the Tongari Hat: "The world will eventually remember. Which was the correct hat for a wizard to wear?" It seems safe to assume that the "which hat" refers to either a "pointed hat" or a "brimmed hat." Is "The Atelier of Witch Hat" a battle between the pointy hat and brimmed hat factions? While it's not quite a battle, it certainly feels like the two sides have conflicting opinions. Incidentally, a fairly recent storyline reveals that the "brimmed hat" factions wear brimmed hats to hide their faces. We're excited for future developments!

[The Atelier of Witch Hat] Attention! Keyfree vs. Brimmed Hat

Recent developments in "The Atelier of Witch Hat" have also depicted a battle between Keyfree and Brimmed Hat! While "The Atelier of Witch Hat" has a strong image of a cute, fairytale-like world, its fierce battle scenes are also one of its charms. Let's take a closer look!

Watch out for the intense battle!

Angry Ki-Free

Coco and Ki-Free are making their way through a cave where space-time is distorted. Having gotten separated from Riche and the others, they are trying to reunite. Then, a brimmed hat appears. The brimmed hat blocks Ki-Free and the others from moving forward. This image shows Ki-Free's reaction. He appears angry, a state unimaginable for the usually calm and gentle Ki-Free. Something serious must have happened between these two.

Keefree Discovers the True Identity of the Brimmed Hat

But Keefree remains calm. While ensuring the safety of his disciples, he uses water magic to uncover the true identity of the Brimmed Hat. The inside of the Brimmed Hat is a fusion of the beast and its innards. Keefree, however, shows no interest in this and asks if the Brimmed Hat knows him, or any other Brimmed Hats with eyes like his. However, the Brimmed Hat replies that he doesn't know anyone because everyone hides their faces under a brimmed hat when they meet.

The Purpose of the Brimmed Hat

Brimmed Hat

The Brimmed Hat then declares, "Your purpose will soon be fulfilled." What is the Brimmed Hat's purpose? In fact, the Brimmed Hat's purpose at this point was to force Coco to use forbidden magic. To that end, Coco's companion, Yunii, had been subjected to a terrible spell that would transform her into a beast. The only way to break this spell is to use forbidden magic. What on earth will happen next?
