Isekai Ojisan will be adapted into an anime starting in July 2022. It's a comedy manga based on the template of an isekai story, about an uncle who returns from a (harsh) other world and, together with his nephew Takafumi, uses the powers he gained in the other world to become YouTubers, while also delving into the uncle's past and feeling heartbroken. The uncle is also an avid S●A fan, and S●A has been at the center of his life, teaching him lessons in life, guiding him in the other world, and even after he returned to the present day. We've put together a summary of this uncle and S●A!
Introduction to Isekai Ojisan!
His uncle, who was in a coma after an accident 17 years ago, wakes up. His nephew, Takafumi, who was dealt the short straw, reluctantly visits him. The uncle, however, turns out to be a crazy man who insists he's returned from another world. However, the uncle really has! Shown the power of the other world, Takafumi is shown the proof and decides to live off his uncle's power by turning it into money. He decides to share a room with his uncle and become a YouTuber.
About SE●A
社是!「創造は生命」!
— セガ公式アカウント🦔 (@SEGA_OFFICIAL) December 4, 2013
This is a game company that older guys love. It's a company with a rare, passionate following, founded in April 1951. Its headquarters was located at Otorii on the Keikyu Haneda Airport Line in Ota Ward, Tokyo, near the Tama River... but it has since moved and is now located in Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo. Their company motto is "Creation is Life." While the company continues to produce classic games, they lost the console war and withdrew from the game hardware business in 2001 with the discontinuation of Dreamcast production. SE●A was lame, and the PlayStation was more fun, so it had no choice.
The Old Man Despairs After Learning that SE●A Has Lost the Game War
The old man who returned from another world was most interested in game consoles. In particular, what would become of SE●A's next-generation console? As you all know, SE●A lost the game console war and withdrew from the game console business after the Dreamcast. SE●A's hardware was packed with groundbreaking features, including online battles, download sales, and browser viewing, but the infrastructure to utilize these capabilities was weak, and the lack of killer titles led to a decline in popularity. The old man was so shocked that he erased his own memory.
An old man left behind by the times with the SE●A hardware
When this old man first came into his own, high-performance smartphones were commonplace, but he opted for an old-fashioned phone that couldn't even make calls. Since he's the type of person who chose the SE●A hardware, he seems to have an aversion to the latest, popular devices.
An Old Man Who Couldn't Die Until He Saw the Final Reader's Race for Sega Saturn Magazine
As part of a project in the former magazine Sega Saturn Magazine (originally published under a different name, the predecessor to Gamera Magazine, which ceased publication in 2012), an old man was transported to another world before seeing the final results of the reader's race. The other world was filled with hardship, but the old man gritted his teeth and continued to live, determined not to die until he saw the final results. However, the top spot was taken by a unique version of an adult PC game, and the old man's favorite, Guardian Heroes, came in 197th, which shocked him.
Final Results: 1st Place: EVE Burst Error
This is a port of an adult game released by C's Ware (Himeya Soft). However, the storyline is extremely polished, making it a popular title that has been remade on numerous platforms. Although the publisher has since gone out of business, it was so popular that a sequel was made.
Final Results: Second Place: Grandia
This title was briefly mentioned in the game. It's a role-playing game for the Sega Saturn released by Game Arts. It's packed with classic elements, and it was a title that determined the fate of the Sega Saturn. However, sales were poor, sealing the fate of the Sega Saturn. However, the game itself remains highly acclaimed. The sequel, Grandia 2, is considered a masterpiece despite its dark storyline, and the 2002 release, Extreme, was praised for its replayability, so much so that some madmen would run their PS2s for six months straight, trying to keep combos going. The third game is famous for a different reason, and it sealed the fate of Grandia in a bad way. If you're interested, be sure to give it a try!
An Old Man Learned Life Lessons from SE●A
Takafumi happens to reunite with his childhood friend Fujimiya. Fujimiya, who has always had a soft spot for Takafumi, tries to separate Takafumi from the creepy-looking old man, but the old man realizes that Fujimiya has feelings for Takafumi. The man uses a girl named Nanase Kaede as an example to warn him that it's never too early to show affection, but he's referring to the alien soldier from Sega.
A crisis is an opportunity
The man's motto is, "A crisis is an opportunity." The negative energy of times when you think you can't go on can become a powerful force if you redirect it. This is the man's motto, and it's a lesson he learned from Puyo Puyo.
An Old Man Who Will Spend Any Thing for SE●A
This old man has had some success as a YouTuber, but his life is still far from stable. Then, a video he filmed transforming into a beautiful elf using his transformation ability went viral, earning him elf money. However, he ends up getting scolded by Takafumi for using the money to buy premium-priced retro SE●A merchandise. The old man's sense of money when it comes to SE●A is completely flawed.
A Highly Literate Old Man Who Uses a Pseudonym in Another World
After suffering through so many terrible experiences in the other world, the old man refused to casually give his real name. However, there were times when he had to give his name, so he used a pseudonym, but all of those names were related to the Alien Soldier from Sega.
Wolf Gunblood
This is the name of a character (stage 23 boss, a werewolf gunslinger riding a horse-like robot) who appears in Alien Soldier, a side-scrolling action game for the Mega Drive developed by To Leisure, which the old man loves. This name usually sticks, but he later reveals his real name.
Tenma Kuroki
This is the name the old man introduced himself to in front of Alicia, Edgar, and Liga, the party he met. It's based on the real name of the alien soldier character Epsilon-1, Tenma Kuroki, as mentioned above.
Kamedo Mansaku
This is the fake name he almost gave to the leader of the Kingdom's Knights. It's based on the same Alien Soldier boss character mentioned above.
The Hedgehog the Old Man Knows
The old man has a soft spot for hedgehogs, but the hedgehog he's talking about isn't a real-life hedgehog; it's the blue, fast hedgehog that appears in Super Smash Bros. However, the hedgehog he encounters in the other world isn't the hedgehog he knows; it's cruel, so he vaporizes it.
A memorable song that made the uncle so happy he cried and fainted
This is the background music that the uncle taught Mabel as a memorable song. It was often played in the UFO catcher at arcades, a genre that kids today don't know. It was originally the background music for Sonic the Hedgehog, and the song's title is STARLIGHT ZONE. I'm sure many people will recognize it if they listen to it. It's a time-honored classic that was also used at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
DreamsDreams
Another classic song taught to Mabel. While it's only referred to as the ending of NiGHTS in the game, "DreamsDreams" is the ending theme of the classic game NiGHTS, created by the Sonic development team. There are various versions, including a children's version and an adult version. The song for the main game's ending is sung by Tomoko Sasaki, a former member of SE●A. She also sang Ashley's theme in the Japanese version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. While it has been remade on various platforms, the NiGHTS released for the Wii is not a remake but a new work.
