The wildly popular mobile game "Fate/Grand Order" has surpassed 13 million downloads and is currently a very popular smartphone app. It's been announced that "Fate/Grand Order" will be adapted into a TV anime series in 2019! The title is "Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia." Fans of the original app are surely excited by this news. In this article, we'll introduce you to the "Seventh Holy Grail," an area within the seventh singularity, "Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia," which is scheduled to be adapted into an anime! Please note that this article contains many spoilers.
What exactly is "Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia," where the Seventh Holy Grail is located?
First of all, "Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia" is the title of the seventh chapter of Part 1 of "Fate/Grand Order." The story takes place in the Age of the Gods, the last era of mysteries. In the land of Uruk, where demons dwell, the greatest evil awakens. It is a fateful era in which gods and humans part ways, and it tells the story of children reaching the end of their childhood.
What's the story?
The story takes place in ancient Mesopotamia, 2655 BC. It was a time of great mystery, a time when the world was transitioning from the world of gods to the world of humans. It was also a time of prosperity, when the heroic king Gilgamesh had completed his quest for immortality and reigned as a perfected king. However, at this time, Babylonia, the final singularity, was on the brink of destruction due to three goddesses and numerous magical beasts. The wise king Gilgamesh then dismantled Uruk and rebuilt it as a fortress city. He even managed to hold off the onslaught of the magical beasts.
Enkidu Saves Uru!
Finally, the protagonists are cornered by magical beasts. However, they are rescued by Enkidu, who was supposed to be dead. Then, the legendary magician Merlin finally appears.
And so, the legendary magician Merlin finally appears. Gods, magical beasts, and humanity. A battle for the survival of the species begins. And in the end, what choice did the Chains of Heaven make?
How to Play
Now, let me introduce the features of this scenario. First, this scenario is set in the distant past of 2700 BC, in Babylonia, the early days of human civilization, renowned as the origin of all legends. As fans of the series will know, the story progresses with some of the most powerful characters in the Fate series, such as Gilgamesh, the benevolent king of Uruk, and Merlin, the court magician. Another major highlight is the introduction of "Divine Spirit-class Servants," who would normally be considered nearly impossible to descend as Servants, one after another.
First Half and Second Half
In the first half, the story depicts the establishment of the Chaldea Embassy and interactions with the citizens and Servants of Uruk. As a result, the story will remain in Uruk for a relatively long period of time, even among the previous scenarios. The story also features a fair amount of comedic elements, creating a light-hearted atmosphere. However, the situation changes dramatically in the second half, as the story suddenly turns into a battle against despair, leaving players feeling deeply moved. Furthermore, with the addition of powerful support characters and substantial event battles, the overall difficulty is considered lower than that of Camelot, despite some challenging sections.
An Important Keyword in the Seventh Holy Grail! What is the "Chain of Heaven"?
From here on, there will be major spoilers regarding Enkidu. If you haven't yet completed Part 1, Chapter 7, and don't want to know what happens next, please be careful!
What is Kingu?
Kingu resembles Enkidu, but they are different people. While he certainly looks exactly like Enkidu, he is actually the leader of the Seven Great Demonic Beasts of Tiamat, the Mother Goddess of Saltwater. Furthermore, he stole Enkidu's body from his tomb, inserted another life into it, and was reborn as "Kingu." He's neither Enkidu nor Kingu, but a hybrid of both. His name comes from "God Kingu," the son of Tiamat and commander of magical beasts. Kingu was given this name because he fulfills the same role. However, Kingu himself mocks Kingu and treats him like a loser.
Treatised as a man
While the original Enkidu was genderless, Kingu was consistently treated as a man throughout the series. Initially, he was given male attributes in the game system. This was later corrected. Furthermore, his class is Lancer, which is Enkidu's, and some have designated him as Avenger. His purple eyes, different from the original Enkidu's, are easily distinguishable.
He was the possessor of the Holy Grail!
Kingu was the possessor of the Holy Grail and a force for evil. Enticed by the Sorcerer King, he outwitted Tiamat and, through the resurrection of the true Tiamat, "reset humanity"—and intended to completely destroy all human history. Shortly after landing at the singularity, the protagonist and his companions are surrounded by a horde of magical beasts and find themselves in danger. It is then that Kingu first appears before them. He approaches them under the guise of "Enkidu," driving away the beasts and gaining their trust. His plan was to show the protagonists the northern wall, a fortress of Uruk's defenses, then inform them of the devastation in Mesopotamia. He then lures them into a remote forest, lying to them that he is there to enter the capital, Uruk, and eliminate them. However, his true identity is discovered by Merlin and his companion, Ana. It is there that he reveals his true nature and attacks the protagonist and his companions. He continues to attack the protagonist and his companions multiple times, cornering them with considerable skill.
He Loves Tiamat
Kingu adores Tiamat, calling her "mother." Furthermore, his priority is Tiamat's resurrection, and to that end, he acts as a mediator for the "Three Goddesses Alliance," summoned using the Holy Grail. He was apparently manipulating the goddesses' actions from behind the scenes. Furthermore, his skills, Noble Phantasm, and attack motions are all the same as Enkidu's, except for the name of his Noble Phantasm, which is "Mother, raise the cry of beginning (Nammu-Duranki)" rather than "Man, let us bind the gods (Enuma Elish)."
The Mysteries of Kingu
There are several mysteries surrounding Kingu. First, for some reason, he is reluctant to get close to Gilgamesh. He originally possessed Enkidu's body, and Enkidu himself is his dearest friend, yet Kingu hesitates not only to assassinate Gilgamesh, but even to infiltrate Uruk and cause mayhem. This was brought to a head in the first half of Chapter 7, when Tiamat, semi-awakened, attacked Uruk. Tiamat was about to destroy Uruk's northern wall, but he intervened and stopped the invaders, saying, "Mother has not yet fully awakened."
Children Don't Want to Hurt
He also has a tendency to absolutely not want to harm children. This was particularly evident during Tiamat's invasion of Uruk. There's a scene where he secretly lets a kidnapped child escape from Tiamat's temple. Even though Ushiwakamaru himself points this out, he hesitates. After the true resurrection of Tiamat is achieved, he is plunged into despair.
The Seventh Holy Grail Episode: What Did Kingu Desire?
Kingu wanted the ideal human race, one that could coexist without pointless conflict. He mass-produced the "Rahmu" created by Tiamat and made himself the command center for the high-performance prototype. Kingu then attempted to lead the Rahmu. However, he was shocked by the Rahmu's sneakiness and cruelty, and was even called an "outdated model" and a "failed creature," leading to their rebellion. Eventually, the Holy Grail is stolen and Kingu is nearly killed by the Lahmu. Meanwhile, near death, Kingu flees Eridu. There, he encounters a Lahmu who is no longer a citizen of Uruk. The Lahmu then addresses Enkidu as his beloved hero and saves him.
Fighting Gilgamesh
Facing Tiamat, Gilgamesh and the citizens of Uruk prepare for annihilation in the final battle. The night before, Kingu suddenly finds himself near the temple of Uruk. There, he comes face to face with Gilgamesh, the beloved best friend of his body's former owner, Enkidu, and the person he most wants to defeat. Gilgamesh then, without a trace of surprise, unleashes a barrage of words on Kingu, calling him his "best friend." What's more, he gives him the Great Cup of Uruk, the original source of the Holy Grail, as a new magical furnace before leaving. Kingu is stunned by this one-sided exchange.
In the Final Battle...
And so it is. Tiamat is cast into the underworld beneath Uruk, and a desperate plan to strip her of her immortal divinity is launched. Uruk is engulfed in flames, and even Gilgamesh is seriously injured shielding the protagonist and company. The situation is dire, and everything seems hopeless. Just a few steps away, even Gilgamesh is nearly crushed. However... "This body. I remember what I must do."
Standing in the way as Enkidu!
Faced by Tiamat, Kingu stood in her way as "Enkidu"! In the end, he immobilized Tiamat with his own Noble Phantasm, "Man, let us bind the gods," and exited the story. It seemed Kingu had lost everything and would simply disappear, but in the end, he truly emerged as "Enkidu," regaining the "Chains of Heaven that connect gods and humans" and confronting her. He subdued Tiamat, thus averting the worst-case scenario and enabling the protagonists to win the final battle.
Key Elements of the Seventh Holy Grail! Kingu's Personality
Kingu's personality emphasizes rationality. He also harbors a strong fighting spirit, which is similar to Enkidu's.
However, one clear difference is his "weariness with humanity." Moreover, he is willing to do anything to achieve his goals. He also seems to have a more emotional personality than Enkidu, becoming irritated and impatient with the words and actions of others.
Not just evil?
He often displays sadistic tendencies, but at the same time, he also has a side that cannot be described as simply "evil." For example, he avoids attacking children and Uruk, as if drawn by his former body's owner, "Enkidu," and he calls Tiamat "mother" and adores her. His attachment to Tiamat is likely due in large part to the fact that she was his only reason for existence. However, he ultimately awakens his pride as a "Chain of Heaven" and leaves his mother, Tiamat. He then resolves to protect humanity of his own volition. This shows that he also has a single-minded, straightforward, and positive nature.
