Byakuya departed for space three days before the entire human race was turned to stone. Six astronauts, including Byakuya, witnessed the strange phenomenon on Earth from space and decided to return to Earth. There, they witnessed a world where everything had turned to stone. Byakuya and his companions built a village there, raising descendants and naming it Ishigami Village. This raises the possibility that Senku is a distant ancestor of Kohaku and his companions.

Senku's nervous system was destroyed by Shishio Tsukasa, and it was thought he died instantly. Taiju, using his wits, managed to grab Senku and escape from Tsukasa. Senku recruits many talented people from Ishigami Village to join the Kingdom of Science, but the one he seems to trust the most is the eldest, Kaseki.
