A third season of "A Certain Magical Index" has been announced. Among the characters appearing, we will examine the charm and strength of "Stiyl Magnus," who protects Index on an equal footing with Kamijo.

Stiyl Magnus Profile

His magic name (kill name) is Fortis931 (I'll prove why my name is "the strongest" here). He's a magician affiliated with the "Church of Necessary Evil (Necessarius)" of the British Puritan Church. He is 14 years old and over 2 meters tall. Kamijou Shiina describes him as "quite handsome." He has a very distinctive appearance, with jet-black robes, blonde hair dyed red, silver rings on all 10 fingers, poisonous-looking piercings, and a barcode-like tattoo under his right eyelid. Though he dresses like a priest, he doesn't look it at all (he's known as the bad priest). He is far more mature than you'd expect from a 14-year-old, and is such a heavy smoker that he declares that "a world without nicotine and tar would be hell."

Stiyl's Magic

He is one of the most talented magicians in the Church of Necessarius (the Church of Necessarius), having mastered all 24 runes and developing six new ones. He is the same age as the famous Misaka Mikoto. He is what they call a child prodigy. Among his specialties are fire-element runes, which he uses to overwhelm his enemies with powerful fire magic. Since he originally learned magic in order to protect Index, his fighting style tends to focus on overwhelming offensive power and base defense. In particular, since using magic requires placing a large number of rune cards in areas where they are used, he is extremely weak in battles that require moving around the battlefield. Conversely, he is extremely strong against stationary targets, and has achieved great success in battles such as capturing the bases of magic societies.

Vampire Killer Crimson Cross

This technique creates two gigantic flaming swords and slams them into the opponent like giant scissors. Using two flaming swords, each powerful enough to be powerful on its own, makes for an incredibly powerful attack. It instantly turns the surrounding area into a scorching hell.

Its meaning is "I will definitely kill you." This magic, Stiyl's trump card, creates a giant flame of 3000 degrees Celsius. It mercilessly burns opponents to ashes with a giant flaming cross. Also, slamming the aforementioned Bloodsucking Red Cross into them causes a huge explosion. Even if the giant god is attacked, the runes within the barrier will regenerate over and over again as long as they are not destroyed. It also possesses the property of auto-tracking, melting walls and everything else as it relentlessly corners its opponent. The only way to escape is to escape the range of the runes' effect.

Stiyl's Code of Conduct

"Stiyl's absolute code of conduct is this philosophy: 'Sleep in peace. Even if you forget everything, I will live and die for you without forgetting anything.' Whether he's a member of the British Puritan Church, has the power to fight as a magician, or follows orders, it's all "for Index's sake." He'll do anything to help Index, even if it means rebelling against the organization.

For Index's sake...

Since then, he's acted as an "enemy" to try to reduce her grief when her memories were erased, but now that Kamijou Touma has prevented her memories from being erased, their relationship seems to have become more of a colleague's. Kamijou Touma is in the position he once held, and while he understands he'll never return to that position, he follows the vow he made and prioritizes Index above his own life.

Is Stiyl a lolicon?!

She was the first magician Kamijou fought over Index. After the destruction of the Collar, she frequently used her status as an acquaintance of Kamijou Touma to deal with magicians in Academy City and elsewhere. She and Kamijou are on a bitter rivalry. However, since Index and Tsuchimikado, who also belong to the British Puritan Church, are fundamentally Kamijo supporters, they are seen to form cooperative relationships when necessary, so they are more like fighting buddies than pure enemies. He has become less wary of women who resemble Index, and at the Daihasei Festival he raised a flag with Komoe-sensei. He is often treated as a lolicon, but since he is 14 years old, it seems natural for him to fall in love with a woman his (apparently) same age.

Stiyl's Unfavourable Treatment

Online, he's often compared to Yamcha and treated like a pushover, but even when he wasn't in top condition, he was able to buy time against one of the strongest Pendex characters in the series, so he's by no means weak. In fact, his ability to repeatedly regenerate makes him a good match for the Imagine Breaker. His notable losses in the series are likely due to the fact that he is often forced to engage in mobile combat, which he is not particularly adept at. He boasts incredible strength in his areas of expertise, base capture and defense.

Reasons for his weaknesses in hand-to-hand combat

In the film, he even manages to summon runes while driving a car, using the wind to create a floating effect. While neither of these feats are possible with Stiyl's current strength alone, we can expect to see his future growth. Furthermore, despite his large build, his physical abilities are low, making him a weak contender in hand-to-hand combat. However, this is not because Stiyl lacks talent for martial arts; rather, his physical strength is drained by the refinement of his magical power through runes.

Stiyl's Relationships

Kamijou Touma

Earlier in the story, they clashed over Index, but were defeated when the runes' "low water resistance" weakness was exploited (this was later overcome by laminating the rune cards). While he is grateful to Kamijo for destroying Index's "collar," he is also jealous. They often fight together, but their relationship is far from good, as Kamijo often uses him as a decoy or shield, leading to complaints from him himself. However, they do not distrust each other and appear to trust each other.

Index

Before Kamijo, Stiyl and Kaori Kanzaki were her partners. Like Kamijo, they once tried desperately to avoid memory erasure, but to no avail. However, even after she lost her memory, their motivation remains the same: they will live and die to protect her, and she is their very reason for living. Incidentally, in volume 1, Index is estimated to be around 15 years old, making her older.

A colleague of Necessarius, they once tried hard together to save Index. Since Takemiya's arrival, they have been spending more time with the Amakusa forces, so they haven't been seen together much recently.

Tsukuyomi Komoe

This pair's apparent ages seem to be the opposite of their real ages. After being warned about smoking in the Daihasei Festival arc, they've become more frequently involved in fan fiction. Their relationship is something like this: Komoe: "Father-san." Stiyl: "Ugh."

Stiyl's Unknown Past

Stiyl himself had no special talent for magic. He acquired the "King of Witch Hunters" and other magic skills through painstaking effort and sacrifice in order to protect Index. Incidentally, at the tender age of 14, he is a genius in rune magic, having completely analyzed all 24 existing runes and even created six new ones. In battle, he uses rune-engraved cards to cast magic. His specialty is fire magic, boasting flaming swords reaching 3000 degrees Celsius and mirage-like illusions. He can also heal burns.

Stiyl's Famous Quotes

Even if you forget everything, I will never forget a single thing. I will live and die for you.

As mentioned above, this is his guiding principle: if it's for Index's sake. These words show how much he cares about her.

I failed once, and you succeeded. That's the only difference between us.

This is what Stiyl said when comparing himself to Kamijou regarding Index's memory. He says that being next to Index is just the difference between failure and success, and this line also tinges with jealousy.

Kamijou Touma... I don't like the fact that you're here right now. Why aren't you with her... If she's upset about it, it's all your fault.

This line shows that Stiyl accepts being next to Index, and if she's next to Index, it's all Kamijou's fault. This line is also likely a result of jealousy.

Summary

Stiyl has appeared in the anime since the first season, and his determination to protect Index with all his might is truly cool. If you want to see the manliest man in the world, Stiyl Magnus, in action, be sure to check out the original manga and the anime!
