"Tokyo Ghoul" is a comic by Ishida Sui about ghouls, creatures that have the appearance of humans but live by eating human flesh. It has been adapted into an anime, a stage play, and is a huge hit that is also planned for a live-action movie. This time, we will introduce the elite investigator, Amon!

Amon Koutaro's personality

Angry Amon

He has a sweet tooth and dislikes spicy food. He has a strong sense of justice that can be called naive, and he often expresses sadness and anger for ghoul victims and their families. Therefore, he believes that "this world is wrong, and it is ghouls that are distorting it." This is especially evident in the beginning of his appearance, when he even goes so far as to rob graves in order to get evidence of ghouls. This sense of justice comes from his past.

Amon Kotaro's Unknown Past

Amon, an orphan, was raised by the ghoul Donato Porpora. The rosary he wears around his neck was given to him at that time. Before he found out about his true identity, he was especially close with Donato, and wanted to know the true intentions of his adoptive father who raised him while secretly eating his fellow orphans, and hoped that he could find something out from the eyepatch-wearing ghoul.

What made him hate ghouls

After that, he applied to the academy to become a ghoul investigator. According to Shinohara Yukinori, he began crying at the time because he couldn't stand the harsh treatment he received from the instructors. Around this time, he made a close friend named Harima, but she later died in the line of duty while participating in a game of "whack-a-mole." Her belongings, Dojima 1/2, were inherited by him. This incident also influenced why Amon hates ghouls.

Amon Kotaro's Quinque

Doujima 1/2 (Kou-kaku)
A metal rod-shaped Quinque. It was a threat to Kaneki, who was unaware of the existence of Quinque, but due to their poor compatibility, it was eventually destroyed.
It is also one of Harima's belongings.

Amon using Kura

Kura (Kou Kaku)
A large plate-like quinque. It originally belonged to Mado, but he gave it to Amon because Dojima 1/2 was broken and he couldn't use it himself (Mado doesn't get along well with heavyweight quinques).
Just swinging it around has enough power to slice a ghoul's body, but by splitting the handle and connecting it to the blade, it can instantly be transformed into a dual-wielding sword.
The greatest effort is put into the "transformation" characteristic of the Quinque, and even if one is thrown far away, it will return to the hand immediately during the "disintegration phase", eliminating as much risk as possible when the weapon leaves the hand (the dual-wielding technique mentioned above is merely a by-product of this).

Amon using Arata

○Arata II (Kakaku)
Developed as a mass-produced model of Arata, who was completed as a quinque for the kakaku. It was originally a spare when the special Arata was broken, but was given to him when he was tasked with fighting the centipede. Arata's (proto) physical boost function is constantly active, meaning there is no risk of him being eaten. However, this puts a greater strain on his body, and even Amon, who is physically superior, is fighting while bleeding all over his body.
A distinctive feature of Arata's body is that not only is his whole body covered in wolf-like armor, but his head as well.

Doujima Kai used by Amon

○Doujima Kai (?)
A repaired and strengthened version of the damaged Doujima. It has a shape like a jousting lance, and Doujima can be seen peeking out from the gaps in the armor.
Its true identity is a Chimera Quinque made of Doujima as its core and wrapped with the tail scabbard of the Bin Brothers.
It has a built-in gimmick that makes its tail shoot out when attacking, allowing it to deal heavy damage to Scale-Red ghouls, which Dojima is normally weak against.
It seems likely that it was designed for use in a fight against Kaneki from the remodeling stage onwards.

Amon Kotaro's Partner Transformation

When he first appeared, he was a first-class investigator, but was later promoted to a senior investigator, and eventually completed his term as a special investigator. He is the partner of the eccentric investigator Mado Kureo and is in charge of the 20th ward together with him, and has complete trust and respect for Mado.

Partner's Death

One day, before joining up with Mado, Amon encounters Kaneki, a "ghoul with an eyepatch," and is injured when his weapon, the Quinque "Dojima," is destroyed. After that, Mado is killed in the line of duty in a battle with Rabbit. He feels a strong sense of responsibility for his death.

Mado's daughter becomes his new partner!

Six months after the Aogiri Tree incident, he was promoted to senior investigator. After that, for some reason, he had Akira, Mado's daughter, as his subordinate. She is just as free-spirited as her father, Mado Kureo, and can be a pain to deal with, but her true character comes to light during the Professor Kano incident and the drinking party that follows.

Due to past experiences...

However, when it comes to her, she seems to see her former colleague, Harima, in her, and Akira himself points this out to her. Before the Owl subjugation battle, she learned of Akira's feelings for her, but rejected them. These events lead him to have a slightly excessive sense of justice, but after meeting Mado and the "eyepatch" who did not eat him, his thoughts gradually change.

Encounter with the eyepatch ghoul

However, after fighting the eyepatch ghoul, he becomes interested in the ghoul who spared him despite being a ghoul. After several battles, they feel a mutual trust despite being enemies. However, when Eyepatch goes berserk after the incident with Professor Kano, he asks, "Are you sure you want to be just a ghoul?!" and upon hearing his answer, he decides to let him go, even though he is generally considered a very dangerous ghoul.

The truth behind Amon Kotaro's death

Angry Amon

At the end of Tokyo Ghoul, an investigation was carried out into the One-Eyed Owl and the Anteiku coffee shop run by Yoshimura, a ghoul believed to be the One-Eyed Owl, and an annihilation operation was carried out. The operation was quite large-scale, as the opponent was the SSS-rated Fukurou. A considerable number of ghouls joined the battle, including the ghoul team led by Furuma and Kaya, who are cafe employees and friends of Yoshimura.

After the defeat, his whereabouts are unknown...

Many investigators also participated, including Amon, of course. There, he encountered Kaneki and got into a fight, and although he was seriously injured, he stabbed Kaneki and left him near death. After the fight with Kaneki, when Fukurou was defeated and retreated, he was attacked by Tatara, a senior member of the Aogiri Tree, and several ghouls, and his whereabouts were unknown. His body was never found, but he was reported to have been seriously injured, so he is believed to have died and is on the list of those killed in the line of duty.

The appearance of a mysterious cannibalistic ghoul

From the traces left by the man, it seems he was cannibalistic (ghouls eating ghouls). Also, due to his stature, some investigators, including Akira, suspect that the mysterious man is Amon. Meanwhile, in Tokyo Ghoul:re episode 66, the mysterious man finally revealed his face. No matter how you look at it, it was Amon Koutaro.

Amon Koutaro's true identity is a floppy disk!?

In Tokyo Ghoul:re, the existence of floppy disks is mentioned. Eto, a member of Aogiri Tree and actually the One-Eyed Owl, has instructed Ayato (Touka's younger brother and a member of Aogiri Tree) to "kill Floppy when he comes." It is not stated what kind of being he is, but he does not seem to be a member of Aogiri Tree or Anteiku.

The origin of the name Floppy

The fact that he is being told this by someone as powerful as Ayato means that he is quite strong and troublesome. Many speculate that the name, which is reminiscent of a floppy disk, refers to a half-ghoul born from Kano's experiments. A being born when Kano's ghoulification surgery is performed on many humans and ghouls, burning data into them. That is why he is called Floppy.

Floppy's Secret Activities

Afterwards, he escapes and becomes hostile towards Aogiri Tree.

He tries to save Kuro and Takizawa, and in the Human Auction arc, he appears in front of the remains of a cannibalized ghoul to search for Kuro, but he is too late.

In the Rose arc, he is the only member of Team Q who is attacked by Aogiri Tree and rescues Saiko, who was nearly eaten by Shikan.

Transform into a Kaguya

During the Rushima landing operation, he confronts Shirataki, who killed Akira. He convinces him that he should atone for his sins by living, not dying, but is forced into a disadvantageous position due to the difference in military strength. At that moment, Mutsuki bursts in and injures Akira who was trying to protect Takizawa, enraging him. After being attacked by Uriue's team who came to his aid, he urges Takizawa and the others to escape, and acts as a decoy, transforming from a near-death state into a Kakakusha.

Even if you become a floppy disk, there is justice!

Amon Asks

He regained consciousness during the fierce battle, and crushed himself to prevent Saiko from killing people. After that, he was held captive in a CCG lab as an analysis subject, but was released by a researcher. At that time, he took on a form similar to that of a kakusha, and at that time, he was so strong that even Takizawa and Kuro alone could barely hold him. After Takizawa attacks his kakuhou and returns him to normal, he reunites with his rival Kaneki.

A new start as Floppy

He also met Touka, the enemy of his boss, and forgave her. Afterwards, he accepts Akira's kindness and supports her as they escape together. After continuing on the run for a while, he is reunited with Nagachika. He cooperates with Akira to seek the cooperation of the CCG. Although Amon does not reveal this, the people who assisted him in escaping from Aogiri Tree were the ":re" and "Tsukiyama-gumi" when they were at the promised location after the war ended, so their true identities are those of their allies.

Floppy Kagune

Amon's Kagune

Wakaku. As Amon is a former investigator, he uses Quinque techniques, and does not use the long-distance techniques unique to Wakaku. He basically covers Dojima with his kagune and fights.
Professor Kano said that the theoretical value was that he could become a kagune, but he was unable to control it, which was the reason for his failure, and his kagune's power and regenerative power were inferior to Owl's.

Summary

In Tokyo Ghoul, the main character of the ghouls is Kaneki, and the main character of the CCG is Amon Kotaro, so there have been quite a few fans of Amon Kotaro for a long time, and I think that many fans have similar feelings towards Floppy. From now on, I hope that he will play an active role as the "two main characters" with Kaneki again like he did back then! For the sake of fans who feel that way, I would like to look forward to the future activities of Amon, also known as Proppy.
