"Code Geass" first aired in 2006 and enjoyed immense popularity, spawning a number of media adaptations, including spin-offs, movies, and new works. We'd like to introduce some of the most important characters and people who played an active role in the main story, including the Holy Britannian Empire, which Lelouch believed he must overthrow for the sake of his sister Nunnally!

Charles zi Britannia, the 98th Emperor of the Holy Britannian Empire

He is the leader and symbol of the Britannian Empire. He advocates the law of the jungle and believes that "inequality leads people to fight and evolve." The world created based on this idea is not one in which Nunnally, with her handicap, can live happily, which was one of the reasons why Lelouch plotted to overthrow Britannia.

The ability of Geass is "the power to alter memories."

He possesses the ability to alter memories, and its effects can be used to rewrite parts of memories or to completely rewrite a person's personality, creating a completely different person. However, its coercive power seems to be weaker than other Geass, and in "Akito the Exiled," the mysterious character "Julius Kingsley," who appears to have been affected by the Emperor's Geass, is often seen resisting the power of Geass and becoming anxious.

In the end, he was rejected by God and vanished.

He completed the connection of Ragnarok and attempted to realize a kind world without lies, but his ideal was dismissed by Lelouch, who said, "That's a world that's kind to me." The Geass that Lelouch cast on God (the collective unconscious) caused the Thought Elevator to collapse, vanishing along with Marianne.

Schneizel el Britannia, the second prince and Imperial Chancellor closest to the Emperor

Code Geass's final boss. As the "only man Lelouch could not defeat," he possesses exceptional intelligence, superior military and political skills, and is skilled in tactics, such as using his eloquent speech to expel Zero from the Black Knights. He is the closest to becoming the next Emperor.

He's essentially a nihilistic man who doesn't even care about his own life

He's a gentlemanly man who always wears a gentle smile and never gets emotional, but at heart, he shows no attachment to status, honor, or even his own life. In other words, he's like a well-made machine.

Activating the Sky Fortress Damocles and Proceeding to the Final Battle

After Lelouch became Emperor, he rebelled against Britannia. By supporting Nunnally, who was Lelouch's greatest weakness, he exerted a great psychological shock on Britannia. He then activated the Sky Fortress Damocles, equipped with numerous Freyas, and attempted to bring world peace by placing the entire world within the Freyas' range.

In the end, Lelouch sees through his true nature and defeats him.

In his final battle with Lelouch, he surpassed him in intelligence, but Freya, who was targeting Lelouch's mirage, was neutralized, and an enemy infiltrated through the hole in Blaze Luminous that had been opened for launch. Finally, he attempted to destroy Lelouch along with Damocles, but at the last moment, Lelouch outwitted him and used Geass on him, defeating him.

Second Princess of the Holy Britannian Empire, "Cornelia li Britannia"

Source: Code Geass ©SUNRISE/PROJECT GEASS

In Code Geass 1, she is the antagonist who repeatedly clashes with Zero Lelouch. A heroine with excellent NMF piloting and commanding skills, she is also capable of cold-hearted decision-making at times. Nicknamed the "Witch of Britannia," she is feared.

Just like someone else, his biggest weakness is his own sister

Source: Code Geass ©SUNRISE/PROJECT GEASS

While he has a cold-hearted side, he is extremely kind and close to his sister Euphemia, even within Britannia, where family feuds are not uncommon. However, this is also his biggest weakness, and he was unable to lay hands on her during the hotel robbery because Euphemia was taken hostage.

All of her subordinates became victims of Lelouch's Geass...

During the Black Rebellion that occurred after Euphemia's massacre, she confronted her nemesis, Zero, and cornered him, but was shot in the back by a Geass-brainwashed Darlton and shot down. She then learned of Zero's true identity and purpose after he descended from Gawain.

Defeat V.V. and avenge Euphemia

After the Black Rebellion, he independently investigated Geass and reached the Geass Order, where he was captured. However, he escaped during an attack by the Black Knights and eventually joined forces with Lelouch, defeating V.V.'s Siegfried. He then took advantage of the chaos to join forces with Schneizel and rebel against Lelouch, who had become Emperor.

Before he knew it, he had traveled to Horai Island and reunited with Guilford.

Just before the final battle, upon learning that Schneizel was attempting to establish Freya's reign of terror, he pointed his sword at Schneizel and was shot, but survived. He later reunited with his loyal subordinate, Guilford, on Horai Island.

Euphemia li Britannia, Third Princess of the Holy Britannian Empire

Cornelia's younger sister, who becomes the vice governor of Area 11 after Clovis is killed by Zero.

An Unusually Kind Person for a Britannian Royal Family

He has a kind heart and is an ultra-moderate, deeply troubled by Britannia's acts of aggression and the discrimination against the Numbers. Though merely a figurehead, he possesses inner strength and drive, considering what he can do to improve the discrimination against the Numbers and for Suzaku and Lelouch. He appointed Suzaku a knight and proposed the establishment of the Special Administrative Zone of Japan.

In episode 23, "Bloodstained Yuffie," she and Lelouch come to an understanding...

He was the first to realize that Zero's true identity was Lelouch, and during a one-on-one meeting with Zero to establish the Special Administrative Zone of Japan, he agreed to Zero's participation by giving up his right to the throne, and he was able to come to an understanding with Lelouch... However,

With the title "Bloodstained Yuffie," there was no way it would end happily.

It seemed like everything was going to end happily, but then, as if by coincidence, Lelouch's Geass went out of control, and he committed a massacre, bound by the command to "kill the Japanese," which he had jokingly given.

A tragic ending that left a deep mark on both the characters and the audience.

With no other choice but to go along with the flow, Lelouch defeated him, meeting a tragic end as he died with Suzaku by his side. This event marked a turning point in Code Geass and later led to Lelouch's "Zero Requiem."

Marianne vi Britannia, Lelouch and Nunnally's biological mother

Source: Code Geass ©SUNRISE/PROJECT GEASS

Although born of commoner origins, she was knighted for her contributions to the NMF development project and later married Charles. She loved to play pranks and had a personality unbecoming of royalty, which made her extremely disliked by many members of the royal family and nobles, but there were many in the military who adored her.

After being killed by V.V., he awakens to the power of Geass.

He was a colleague in creating Charles' "world without lies," but he was shot and killed by V.V., who was concerned that Charles would be influenced by Marianne. However, at that moment, his Geass, which allows him to enter the minds of others, manifested, and he possessed Anya, who happened to be present as an apprentice at the event. This incident later led Lelouch to plot the destruction of Britannia.

Disappears along with Charles by the Sword of Akasha

He reunites with Lelouch by the Sword of Akasha and persuades him to create a "kind world without lies" together with Charles. However, Lelouch rejects this, saying, "That's a world that's kind to me," and the Geass Lelouch casts on the collective unconscious causes the Sword of Akasha to disintegrate, dissolving along with Charles.

Jeremiah Godvald, Leader of the Pureblood Faction

Source: Code Geass ©SUNRISE/PROJECT GEASS

The leader of the "Pureblood Faction," who believes that the Britannian military should be composed exclusively of Britannians. He is a warlike character, skilled in KMF piloting, and possesses excellent political acumen. His treatment changes many times, and he is a comedic character who is vying for first or second place in the story...or rather, a character who has had a strange fate.

The Greatest Victim of Lelouch's Geass

Source: Code Geass ©SUNRISE/PROJECT GEASS

He is portrayed as a villain in the early part of the story, blaming Suzaku for the murder of Clovis with his aggressive and discriminatory nature. However, Zero's intervention marks the beginning of his tragic downfall. Bound by Geass, which says "If you don't want Orange to be made public, then do everything in your power to spare us!", they end up doing everything in their power to spare us, which suggests that the terrorists have a hold on their weakness.

The Beginning of a Life of Downfall

Following this incident, he was nicknamed "Orange," ostracized within the Britannian military, and nearly purged by the pure-blood faction. In the battle at Narita, it faced off against the Guren Nishiki, but was easily defeated by its overwhelming superiority and was hit by a radiant wave, which caused great damage to its body and made it MIA, with its name appearing on the list of casualties.

Orange is coming in orange!

However, after being picked up by researchers affiliated with Batley, he was used as a test subject to replicate C.C.'s characteristics, and his body was modified to survive. In Black Rebellion, he takes advantage of the chaos and launches himself into battle aboard the orange-colored "Siegfried." Although his emotional instability and incoherent speech and behavior due to his lack of coordination led him to relentlessly pursue Zero due to his hostility and obsession with him, he ultimately sank into the sea along with CC's Gawain.

He appears before Lelouch again, but in an unexpected turn of events

In fact, he still stubbornly survived and was rescued by the Geass Order. After undergoing further modifications and obtaining the "Gear Canceller," he appears before Lelouch again. However, his original purpose was to ascertain the true intentions of Lelouch, Marianne's orphaned son, and he learns that the reason he founded the Pureblood Faction was because he was unable to protect Marianne, whom he loved. From then on, he becomes Lelouch's trusted aide.

The Final Battle with Mordred

In the final battle with Schneizel, Jeremiah piloted the Sutherland Sieg and fought Anya's Mordred. Although his own ship was destroyed, the detached Sutherland J self-destructed, causing moderate damage. Finally, Jeremiah himself climbed into the cockpit. However, he intuitively senses that Anya is bound by Geass and frees her from Marianne's curse using the Geass Canceller.

Oranges are a symbol of loyalty

After witnessing the entire Zero Requiem, he retires from the military and runs a mandarin orange farm with Anya. Guilford's sarcastic remark, "You can either start over as a pilot or work in an orange grove!" has oddly come true.

Pureblood Faction Member: Villetta Nu

Source: Code Geass ©SUNRISE/PROJECT GEASS

A Britannian soldier and a member of the Pureblood Faction. With her ambitious career and her position in jeopardy due to Jeremiah's scandal, she takes action to achieve great things. After witnessing Ashford Academy students being Geassed by Lelouch during the Shinjuku Incident and taking Sutherland, he begins his own investigation to uncover Zero's true identity.

He discovers Zero's true identity, but...

He uses Shirley to uncover Zero's true identity, but is shot and seriously injured by Shirley while trying to protect Lelouch. He is then protected by Ougi, but loses his memory in the process.

She loses her memory and transforms into a completely different person

After losing her memory, Villetta is protected by Ougi and, as if her personality has changed, she becomes gentle and kind. However, during the Black Rebellion, her memories return, and she shoots Ougi at Ashford Academy. However, her love for him remains, and she is unable to kill him.

Teacher Villetta appears!

In R2, he unexpectedly appears as a physical education teacher at Ashford Academy. His goal is to monitor Lelouch, who has been under the Emperor's Geass, and to capture C.C. However, Lelouch outwits him and threatens him with his relationship with Ougi, effectively making him a double agent.

After Zero Requiem, she marries Ougi and becomes Ougi Viletta.

Afterward, she revealed Zero's true identity and the secrets of Geass, prompting the Black Knights to expel Zero, and remained with the Black Knights. Having conceived a child with Ougi, she did not participate in the final battle, instead waiting for his return on Horai Island. After Zero Requiem, she married Ougi, who became the Prime Minister of Japan.

Special Dispatch Guidance Technology Department Chief "Lloyd Asplund"

Source: Code Geass ©SUNRISE/PROJECT GEASS

He is the chief of the Special Dispatch Guidance Technology Department (commonly known as the "Special Dispatch"). Despite holding the rank of Earl, he always wears a white coat and is a true engineer who shows no interest in status or race. The Lancelot he developed achieved great success, perhaps thanks to the abilities of his Devicer, Suzaku.

Putting his own interests first

He sometimes worries more about the NMFs than the Devices, refers to Devices as mere parts, and behaves in an inhumane manner that makes it hard to tell if he's joking or serious. However, he is by no means cold-hearted, and there have been times when he has shown concern for Suzaku and Cecil.

Long-Term Rivals with Lakshata

He and Lakshata were classmates in college, and since then they have been rivals, respecting and competing with each other. Their rivalry has led to numerous clashes over the unseen technical aspects of the battlefield. Lakshata calls him "Count Pudding" and views him as an enemy. He is one of the few people who knows the full story of Zero Requiem, and he participated in the final battle.

Specially Dispatched Guidance Technology Department Operator "Cecil Croomy"

Source: Code Geass ©SUNRISE/PROJECT GEASS

An operator who assists Lloyd on a special mission. He is the developer of the Energy Wing float unit, and is also a skilled engineer, having performed a full-scale, hobby-focused tune-up of the Guren Nishiki, which he and Lloyd recovered.

It seems he's harboring a lot of frustration inside...

He's a kind-hearted person, but he can be quite frightening when provoked. He and Lloyd make a great pair, but he seems to be harboring a lot of pent-up frustration. During the school festival's whack-a-mole game, he focused his attacks on a student who looked like Lloyd and played the role of a mole. In Zero Requiem, he and Lloyd are two of the few people who know the full story, and they participated in the final battle.

Summary of the Holy Britannian Empire Associates

I've introduced the Britannian associates, but Code Geass is such a rich story, both friend and foe, that I can't cover it all here. That's how intense Code Geass is. There's even talk of a completely new work, and I can't wait to see how the world of Code Geass unfolds!
