"Code Geass," which began airing in 2006, is widely regarded as one of the greatest anime series of all time for its twists and turns. The protagonist, Lelouch, takes action to overthrow the Britannian Empire and create a world where his sister, Nunnally, can live happily. After his defeat, he becomes acutely aware of the power of organizations and creates the Order of the Black Knights. Let's take a look at the key members of the Order.
Who is he?! The mysterious leader of the Order of the Black Knights, "Zero"
The name Lelouch Lamperouge took when he founded the Order of the Black Knights was Zero. After receiving the power of absolute obedience from C.C., he vows to defeat Britannia in order to create a world where his sister Nunnally can live in peace. As the new leader of the Ogi Group, originally a humble resistance group fighting to liberate Japan from Britannian occupation, he organizes the Black Knights and, using his brilliant intellect, ability to manipulate people, and the power of Geass, quickly builds up a large organization.
The Weakness of Zero, the Charismatic Leader of the Black Knights
Although he commands the Black Knights with his exceptional strategic eye and has achieved numerous victories, Zero Lelouch also has a weakness. Due to his rational and superhuman intellect, he predicts everything in advance and plans his strategies accordingly. Therefore, when something unexpected happens, he loses his cool.
But there's more! Charismatic Leader Zero's Weakness #2
He's a bean sprout with no basic physical strength. During a deserted island survival mission, a common theme in robot anime, he showed his lack of stamina and the lack of adaptability typical of modern children. At the school festival, he even outperformed the girls.
And there's more! Charismatic Leader Zero's Weakness #3
Another weakness is his younger sister, Nunnally. Zero believed that the Black Knights were merely a means to defeat Britannia for Nunnally's sake. When Nunnally was kidnapped during the "Black Rebellion," he became so distraught that he withdrew from the battlefield, leading to the Black Knights' defeat. During the Second Battle of Tokyo, he prioritized Nunnally, who was (or was thought to have been) drawn into Freya's affairs, and made disparaging remarks about the Black Knights, which was one of the reasons for his later exile.
Zero, the Black Knights' leader, is often shot down.
Zero personally takes to the battlefield, believing that "if the King doesn't act first, his subordinates won't follow." His mobile suit is a Sutherland stolen from Villetta. After forming the Black Knights, he pilots Zero's personal Burai. While he's not lacking in skill, he's frequently shot down due to the terrible adversaries he faces.
Robbery on Kamine Island! Zero's beloved machine, the Gawain
On Kamine Island, Zero takes advantage of the confusion to hijack a special agent's new machine, the Gawain. Later, equipped with stealth capabilities and a hadron cannon, the Gawain achieves numerous victories.
The personal machine of our Black Knights leader, Zero, "Mirage"
In R2, Lelouch pilots the "Mirage," a repurposed version of Gawain's Druid System. It possesses incredible computing power and is equipped with two powerful defensive fields: the "Absolute Guardian Zone" and the "Diffusion Structural Phase Transition Method." However, using these two requires the pilot to possess advanced information processing skills, making it a machine that only Lelouch can perfectly pilot.
And on to Zero Requiem
After Lelouch settles things with Charles and becomes emperor, Zero is banished by the Black Knights, whose distrust has been fueled by Schneizel. The Black Knights then turn against Lelouch, leading to Zero Requiem. Be sure to see for yourself the fate of Zero, the leader of the Black Knights, who appears in the final episode!
C.C., a pizza-loving witch and accomplice of the Black Knights' leader.
An immortal girl. She can bestow the power of Geass on others, and the story unfolds when she bestows the "Geass of Absolute Obedience" on Lelouch. She has a carefree and unruly personality, and does whatever she wants, from barging into Lelouch's room and becoming a freeloader to ordering his favorite pizza without permission. However, she remained Lelouch's "accomplice" and equal partner until the very end.
Zero's Lover: A Master of Everything, from Body Double to KMF Pilot
After serving as Zero's body double during a conversation with Kirihara, she effectively became a member of the Black Knights. She supported Zero behind the scenes, piloting the KMF as Gawain's pilot and frequently negotiating with foreign countries. She continued to support and watch over Lelouch even after he became emperor. She cooperated with him despite knowing all of Lelouch's secrets, making her a reliable presence in Lelouch's life. Tamaki calls her "Zero's mistress."
Black Knights' Ace: Karen Kouzuki
The Black Knights' strongest ace pilot. Half Britannian and half Japanese, she joined the Resistance after losing her brother, Naoto, during the Britannian invasion. Possessing some of the best piloting skills in the series, she masters the Guren Nishiki, a high-performance weapon too finicky for ordinary pilots to master, achieving numerous victories.
She usually plays the role of a sickly character
She usually plays the role of Kallen Stadtfeld, a sickly female student attending Ashford Academy. However, this is far from her true personality, and there have been times when she has shown regret.
The Absolute Ace's New Power: "Guren Seiten Hakkyokushiki"
In R2, Lloyd Asplund and Cecil Croomy modified a recovered Guren Nishiki, focusing solely on performance. As a result, they stole the "Guren Seiten Hakkyokushiki," a machine that no one else could master, and returned to the battlefield. They mastered it brilliantly, dispatching Knight of Ten's Luciano (nicknamed "Ten-san") with a radiant wave and instantly defeating Suzaku's Lancelot Conquester. Farewell, Ten-san.
What will be the outcome of the fierce battle in the final battle?
In the final scene of R2, a fierce battle ensues between the strongest mecha in the series, Suzaku's Geass-boosted Lancelot Albion and the KAREN5. Despite being rendered inoperable, the KAREN5 manages to defeat it.
Code Geass's Humiliated Characters
Code Geass is famous for its many sexy scenes. From shower scenes to bunny girl scenes and even interrogations as a prisoner, the variety is quite extensive, and the power of the gods (staff) is at work here.
Ogi Kaname, the popular adjutant of the Black Knights
He is the leader of the Ogi Group, a resistance group fighting to liberate Japan. He has a gentle personality and is well-liked by his members. He assumed the role of leader in accordance with the wishes of Karen Kouzuki's brother, Naoto, but he feels he is not suited to the role. After witnessing Zero's seemingly miraculous talent, he became his adjutant and acted as a buffer between members who complained about Zero's secrecy.
He saves a Britannian soldier who has lost his memory, but...
After rescuing the Japanese Liberation Front, Zero's distrust of Zero grows. Meanwhile, he shelters a Britannian soldier (Villetta) who has lost her memory after being shot and seriously injured by Shirley, gives her the name "Chigusa," and the two fall in love. However, he is shot and seriously injured by Villetta, who has regained her memories during the Black Rebellion.
He decided to expel Zero from the Black Knights, and
After the Black Rebellion, he was captured by the Britannian military. He was later rescued by the reunited Black Knights and boarded the battleship Ikaruga to support Zero. However, after Schneizel incited his distrust and Villetta revealed Zero's true identity and Geass to him, he expelled Zero from the Black Knights. After Zero Requiem, he married Villetta and became Prime Minister of Japan.
The Most Hated Character in Code Geass?!
In fact, he's a character who's incredibly disliked by some viewers. It's understandable that he hid a beautiful Britannian soldier on the enemy side who was thought to have information about Zero (he even installed surveillance cameras and took other precautions), but things start to look bleak when he becomes so attached to the amnesiac Villetta that he gives her the name "Chigusa."
And Now, Ougi Requiem
Later, his feelings for Villetta were one of the reasons he betrayed Zero, and despite his treason, he managed to survive until the end, marry Villetta, have a child with her, and even become Prime Minister of Japan. This phenomenon of viewers gathering hate has come to be called the "Ougi Requiem," a play on the term "Zero Requiem."
The somewhat lovable Assistant to the Black Knights, "Tamaki Shinichiro"
A veteran member of the Black Knights, Tamaki is known for his short-sightedness and extreme behavior. His rating is extremely low, from 0 to 40, while other members' ratings are in the 175 and 200 range. Perhaps due to a lack of other positions available, he was appointed Assistant to the Black Knights in episode 16 of R2.
The Immortal King of Shot-Down
He boasts on the battlefield, but usually gets killed easily... but he manages to survive. His personality is also reminiscent of the guy from "2000 Special Mock Battles." While the latter is only moderately skilled, he barely survives when he would normally die, this one is a complete joke. Ultimately, he was one of the few surviving members of the Black Knights, suggesting he had a strong case of bad luck.
Was he truly irreplaceable?
At first glance, Tamaki may seem useless, but his quick-wittedness and open dissatisfaction with his words and actions reflect the views of at least some of the Black Knights. Tamaki, who represents the will of the Order, was essential to maintaining harmony within the Order...or perhaps that's just how it is. Judging from the message board in the final episode, he seems to have been well-liked by his fellow members.
Kyoshiro Todo, the spiritual pillar of the Black Knights, nicknamed "Miracle Todo"
He was a former Imperial Japanese Army officer with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Seven years ago, during the Britannian invasion, he commanded the "Miracle of Itsukushima," Japan's only victory despite the fatal disadvantage of Knightmare Frames. He was nicknamed "Miracle Todo" for this, and he continued to be a spiritual pillar for the Japanese Liberation Front.
After being rescued by Zero, he becomes a member of the Black Knights.
He is highly popular, possesses commanding skills, and is skilled in piloting Knightmare Frames. However, after the battle at Narita, he is taken prisoner by Britannians in order to allow his subordinates to escape. Just before his execution, Zero appears and demands that he "take responsibility for the miracle," leading him to join the Black Knights along with the Four Holy Swords.
Deciding to banish Zero after his subordinates testify
After the Black Rebellion, he was captured by Britannia, but was once again rescued by Zero just before his execution and rejoined the Black Knights. After his return, he piloted Zangetsu and demonstrated his talent, even fighting on equal terms with Suzaku. He recognized Zero's talent and trusted him, but after learning Asahina's testimony and the truth about Geass, he decided to banish Zero. During the final battle, he was stopped by Chiba from continuing his attack despite his injuries, making him one of the few survivors of the Black Knights.
The Hedonistic Black Knights' Technician, "Rakshata Chawla"
An engineer from the Indian military district of the Chinese Federation. He joined the Black Knights through an introduction from the anti-Britannian faction, "Kyoto." Although he has a hedonistic and unconventional personality, he has a background in medical cybernetics and has developed technology to increase pilot survival rates. Unlike Pudding, he is a humanitarian who does not treat pilots like parts.
An Engineer of Super-Genius
Despite the vast technological gap between Knightmare Frames, he developed the Guren Nishiki and Gekka, which rivaled the Lancelot in performance. He is also a genius engineer. He has developed new weapons such as the Radiant Wave and the Gefion Disturber, put Gawain's Druid System, which Zero stole, into practical use, and completed the unfinished Hadron Cannon.
A Fate with His Former Classmate, "Count Pudding"
He is a former classmate of correspondent Lloyd Asplund and a junior of Cecil Croomy. He is particularly rivalrous with Lloyd, whom he calls "Count Pudding" and dislikes. Although they don't fight directly on the battlefield, their skills often clash, and there are many scenes where they marvel at each other's skills.
Diethard Ried, the intelligence officer for the Chaos-Seeking Black Knights
A talented producer at Britannia Television Station, he is a man of great initiative and insight, but he is also only interested in the changes taking place in the world. Despite being Britannian, Diethardt joined the Black Knights out of fascination with Zero, believing him to be the "embodiment of chaos" that would change the world.
He is a capable person, recognized even by Zero...
As a former journalist, Diethardt excelled in the information field and was appointed head of public relations and intelligence, earning Zero's high praise. However, his obsession with the chaos Zero brought about sometimes led him to act independently, such as attempting to assassinate Suzaku.
He met a tragic end after leaving the Black Knights
After the Black Knights expelled Zero, Diethardt left the order and served under Schneizel in search of a new source of chaos. Diethardt's abilities were highly regarded by Schneizel. However, while inside Damocles, he was shot by Schneizel, who was under the influence of Geass. His final plea to "use Geass" was rejected, resulting in a tragic end.
