Shikata Renji appears in the second volume of Tokyo Ghoul. When he first appeared, Kaneki was intimidated by him for being quiet and unsociable, but personally, he's my favorite ghoul (lol). I'd like to share the many charms of Shikata from the original series to :re and increase the number of Shikata fans!
Who is Shikata Renji anyway?
Nicknamed Yomo. A large, silver-haired ghoul who works at the coffee shop "Anteiku" in the 20th Ward. His kagune is a feather kagune. He used to work as a waiter, but since he wasn't suited to customer service, he now works behind the scenes, collecting the bodies of suicide victims and gathering information. He's quiet and unsociable, but sincere, and deeply trusted by his master, Yoshimura, Kaneki, and Touka, making him a true big brother figure. While his combat abilities are still unknown, he's certainly a formidable force! There's a scene where he's training Kaneki and Touka in combat, and he's able to easily handle a combined attack from them! He's strong, silent, and a dependable, big-brother-like character... Isn't that just cool? (lol)
His anime voice actor is Yuichi Nakamura

Yomo's voice actor is Yuichi Nakamura! His most notable works include Fullmetal Alchemist (Greed), Haikyu! (Tetsuro Kuroo), and Osomatsu-san (Karamatsu Matsuno). He's well-known for his handsome, deep voice. He's the perfect voice actor for the calm, mature Yomo!
Renji Shiho is a good friend of Kaneki's.
Kaneki confronted ghoul investigator Kotaro Amon for the first time and, after destroying his Quinque, used his last bit of rationality to urge him to retreat. After Amon's retreat, Kaneki, driven mad by hunger and controlled by Rize's personality, was approached by Yomo, wearing a black mask. "I've been watching you," he said. After this, Kaneki, already under Rize's control, pierced Yomo's abdomen with his kagune due to extreme hunger. Yomo remained unfazed and told Kaneki, who was under Rize's control, "Come back...Ken." Those words brought Kaneki back to his senses. It was the moment when Kaneki gained another person who understood him.
Yomo is also the only one who calls Kaneki by his first name, "Ken"! He is also depicted as being a little overprotective of Kaneki. This just goes to show how important Kaneki has become to him.
Is Shimo Renji the type to use things for a long time and take good care of them? Or is he just careless?
Yomo's outfits tend to be simple! He often wears a plain shirt and a long black coat. Itori even remarks, "You've been wearing that outfit for 10 years, haven't you?" Yomo is surrounded by many stylish ghouls, such as the hard punk Uta, the sexy Itori, and the high-end Tsukiyama, but it seems he is the only one who values functionality and comfort (lol). In a flashback scene of Yomo as a child, he is once again wearing a plain black coat. It seems like his taste in clothes hasn't changed in years (lol).
Renji Shiho's friendships solidify after the rain
Yomo may be a mature and mature man now, but he used to be quite a troublemaker. Yomo used to come to District 4, which Uta was in charge of, and steal food. They were unable to understand each other, and Itori even says that the two of them made District 4 even more chaotic and a real nuisance. They knew that if they fought seriously, one of them would die, so they withdrew midway. After that, they built a good relationship and tried to take revenge together on Arima Kishou, known as the CCG's Grim Reaper.
There's still a lot we don't know about Shikata Renji! How strong is he?
Since the original series, Yomo has mostly been house-sitting or working behind the scenes, and has very few combat scenes. First, in his fight against Aogiri, he knocked Noro's upper body away with a single kick, and Ayato listed his name as one of the "people you shouldn't mess with." Then in :re, he fights Mutsuki. Yomo was hit by Mutsumi's knife, losing the sight in his left eye and forcing him to defend himself. Cornered, Yomo unleashed a bolt of electricity through the water as Mutsumi approached. Yomo's kagune appears to have the properties of lightning. It was previously depicted that Arima's Quinque, "Narukami," is the kagune of Yomo's sister, Hikari. Yomo likely possesses the same properties. A kagune with the same properties as the one possessed by Arima Kishou...of course it's strong! Is Yomo Renji actually a bit of an airhead? A mysterious character?

As mentioned earlier, Yomo has a strong and calm demeanor. However, in the bonus four-panel comics in the original work, he's a comedic character alongside Tsukiyama. He also has a cute, airheaded side. When everyone was thinking of a name for the parakeet Hinami found, they named it "Shooting Star Wing" because of the star pattern on its wings (lol). Even though the name later changed to "Hetare," Yomo is the only one who stubbornly continues to call it Shooting Star Wing (lol). I guess that name stuck with Yomo...

It's a transformation you wouldn't expect from the usual Yomo (lol). Incidentally, the next morning, Yomo still remembered everything from when he was in a frenzy (lol).
Up until then, Yomo had lived a life of revenge and despair, so seeing him smile and say he was glad to be alive was quite touching. Even if he was dancing a dance I didn't understand!! Yomo usually only wears simple clothes, but the T-shirt he's wearing this time has "Festival" written on it in big letters!! (lol) I'm sure many people were captivated by this contrast!

What did you think? Yomo doesn't say much, but he always pops up at important moments. He has a high fighting ability, but he also has a weakness for alcohol, so we can't take our eyes off him in the future!
