This World is Too Imperfect is an anime series set to begin airing in April 2024. It's based on a full-dive open-world RPG similar to Sword Art Online. What sets it apart from other games is that the game is set in an incomplete world still in development, riddled with fatal bugs that make it impossible to progress. The protagonist joins the game as a debugger, only to find himself unable to log out. The story follows a debugger trapped in the game and the NPCs that inhabit it. Here's a summary of the main characters!

Character #1: Haga

Haga

A muscular man who travels around the world conducting various investigations as the King's Seeker. In reality, she's a debugger at Nishishima Tech, currently working on the fully immersive VR game "Kings Seeker Online." While debugging with several colleagues, she discovered she couldn't log out. She's so diligent and meticulous that she continued debugging for a year, even though most of her colleagues had abandoned it. She's skilled at exploiting game bugs and specifications, but she has disabled debug mode, a privilege available to debuggers, due to the risks involved.

Character #2: Nicola

Nicola

An ordinary village girl living in a village on the outskirts of the Kingdom of Vale. She becomes interested in Haga after he saves her from a dragon attack, but in fact she is a character who was always meant to die in the event when the dragon attacks the village. Even if Haga abandons the quest and starts over, overturning the loss, her death is inevitable, but she survives because the setting is changed to her following Haga, perhaps because Nicola expresses her desire to accompany her. NPCs in this world are AIs that are no different from humans in terms of thought and behavior, and at a glance it is impossible to tell the difference between an NPC and a player. As she is just a village girl, she has no combat ability, but a bug in her internal data seems to be referencing high numbers, and when used with weapons that refer to levels, she can produce incredible power.

Character #3: Tesla

Tesla

The meta-AI that oversees the game. There are five meta-AIs in this world, but each has a different design philosophy, which sometimes leads to conflicts with the other four. Tesla, in particular, is a meta-AI that values order and disapproves of the current situation where debuggers are doing whatever they want. He appears in front of Haga, who is diligently debugging, by borrowing the body of the NPC Nikola. He generally does not interfere with the player, appearing only to steal debug stones from malicious debuggers and also sneakily appearing during meal times.

Character #4: Amano

Amano

A debugger with the avatar of a feather, a small animal species. He is one of the debuggers at Asobing, Inc., but gave up debugging and became fed up with the company's CEOs doing whatever they wanted in debug mode. He then hid in a village with an unfixed bug. There, he met an NPC named Lu, who generated a side quest called "Tell Me a Heroic Tale." This prompted him to start writing his beloved manga. However, after losing Lu in an attack by the CEOs chasing Haga, he vowed to seek revenge on them and accompanied Haga.

Character #5: Luu

Luu

A female NPC whom Amano encounters in an unpatched village after parting ways with the company presidents. She suffers from a lame leg and is unable to move. The "Tell a Heroic Tale" quest is automatically generated, which is what inspired Amano to start writing manga. Although an NPC, she was undoubtedly a source of emotional support for Amano, who was trapped inside the game. However, she was lost when the company presidents pursued Haga and the others. She is later revived by a code the company president accidentally finds, but her memories of her time with Amano are not restored.

Character #6: The President

President

The president of Asobing Co., Ltd., one of the debuggers who became unable to log out during debugging, is the leader of the company's employees. Using debug mode, he behaved freely in this world, but given his position as leader of his subordinates and his wife and children, he was mentally exhausted to an extent unimaginable from his appearance. When he suddenly declared his intention to complete the game, he was killed by his rival employees. However, he survived thanks to the existence of a substitute item, but was later cut in half by Akira and retired. The fate of the debuggers who died in this world remains unknown.

Character #7: Akira

Akira

A tall, busty female swordsman. An employee of Entertainment Co., Ltd., her real name is Akira Kagami. Originally based in the area where Asobing Co., Ltd. employees made their base, she wears black armor and opposes Haga and the others, but in reality, she is trying to determine whether they are malicious debuggers or not. She is generally friendly toward Haga and the others, determined to adapt to this world and behave as she is. However, in reality, she is just a student participating in a work experience program, and deep down, she is cornered by her current situation, unable to log out. This explains his decisive and realistic perspective, as evidenced by his unhesitant murder of the player's company president.

Character #8: Ren

Ren

An employee of Entertainment Co., Ltd., Akira's boss and a priest by occupation. His real name is Ren Mizoguchi. A friendly and reliable person, he guides Akira and his friends' actions. He follows the meta-AI Alba and will use any means necessary to stop anyone who gets in the way of Alba's actions. She intended to gather and save the debuggers who had lost their purpose, but in reality, like the president who clashed with Haga in the past, she was under intense stress and was about to commit a suicide-like act of turning herself and her employees into NPCs to escape the pain.

Character #9: Akane

Akane

An employee of Entertainment Co., Ltd., Akane travels with Akira and Ren. Her occupation is a monk, and her name suggests she acts like a woman, but her avatar is a small beast-man, so her actual gender is unknown to anyone but her colleagues. She is a former slot machine pro and loves gambling. He has a carefree personality and sometimes acts without thinking of the consequences, which can get him into trouble.

Character #10: Alba

Alba

A meta-AI in charge of the Sai Kingdom. Despite his status as a meta-AI, he also serves as the country's prince, and uses his great administrative power to actively interfere with the game. He is the sibling of fellow meta-AI Tesla, but his approach to the game is very different from Tesla's. When Haga tries to report the game's interference to the management, he implicates Amano, Akira, and Akane, transporting them to the kingdom's underground.

Character 11: Mayu

Mayu

Mayu works part-time at Entertainment Co., Ltd. Her real name is Kinoshita Mayu. She's a debugger who disappeared after being transported to The Diamond, the Mazuna Temple Underground Ruins, deep beneath the Sai Kingdom. In reality, she was unable to move due to the presence of a raid boss, and lived in solitude in the archives there until Haga arrived. Her original avatar was a lizardman, but when she tried to change her avatar to the "Fluffy Dragon Transformation Set" she bought from a traveling merchant, it seemed the data wasn't available. She ended up with a question mark and couldn't revert to her original avatar. He's a fighting game enthusiast, and displays his high level of skill throughout the series.
