"Laid-Back Camp△" is a story about high school girls who enjoy camping at their own pace and to the best of their ability. It's packed with useful camping information and beautiful depictions of natural scenery, making it a truly enjoyable show to watch. The third season, scheduled to air in April 2024, is already generating a lot of buzz. It's expected that the third season will feature the "Oigawa Arc" from the original manga. This time, we'd like to introduce the Oigawa Arc's synopsis!
Introduction: What is Laid-Back Camp△ about?
Shima Rin, a high school girl who enjoys camping alone, enjoys a winter camping trip at the foot of Mount Fuji during the off-season. On the same day, he rescues Kagamihara Nadeshiko, who was stranded after falling asleep and returning home late. After meeting Rin, Nadeshiko becomes interested in camping and joins the Outdoor Activities Club (commonly known as No-Kuru) in high school, where she begins camping with the other members. Rin, who prefers to travel alone and initially turned down Nadeshiko's invitation, gradually deepens her relationship with Nadeshiko and her friends through social media.
The Oigawa Arc is based on volumes 10 and 11 of the manga.
Season 2 concluded with the three-day, two-night Izu camping arc. Since the story had covered up to volume 9 of the manga at this point, season 3 is likely to pick up from volume 10. The first and second seasons aired up to Volume 9, so I expect the third season will cover episodes from Volumes 10 to 14. The Oigawa Arc is included in Volumes 10 and 11 and focuses on three characters: Kagamihara Nadeshiko, Shima Rin, and Nadeshiko's friend Ayano. From here on, I'll introduce the plot of the Oigawa Arc without giving away too many spoilers!
Day Camp with Outdoor Activities Club Members
Volume 10 begins with members of the Outdoor Activities Club (commonly known as Outdoor Club) chatting in the clubroom. Nadeshiko, Aoi, and Chiaki talk about setting up a liquor stand. As the conversation progresses, the topic of Chiaki's hair growing out comes up. Since Ena is grooming Chikuwa (Ena's dog), they decide to go to Ena's house for a day camp and get a haircut at the same time. At this camp, they make use of a machine called a "sausage stuffer" that can make original sausages. It feels like Outdoor Club's camping activities are becoming much more serious. In the second half of volume 10, Ayano, a friend of Nadeshiko's from Kozasa, goes on a tour with Rin. The two enjoy a tour of the Oi River, known for its suspension bridges. Later, Ayano invites Nadeshiko to join them.
Camping at the Oi River
Volume 11 fully depicts the camping trip at the Oi River. Nadeshiko's communication skills are still intact, as she hits it off with a group of women she meets for the first time on the train. Rin and the others arrive at the Hatanagi Suspension Bridge, screaming in surprise at the bridge's height, length, and narrowness. Midway through the story, Nadeshiko reunites with Rin and Ayano, and the three of them camp together. The hamburger steaks they eat for dinner have a realistic, delicious texture, making this a must-see. On the way back, Ayano couldn't help but yell in frustration at having to travel the long, two-hour path again. This difficulty is part of the fun of camping, after all. Incidentally, the Hatanagi Suspension Bridge is only 181 meters long and 90 centimeters wide, so it's no wonder Rin and the others were scared. It's also famous as a spot for viewing beautiful autumn leaves, so if you're interested, why not give it a go?
Summary of the Oigawa Arc
In the Oigawa Arc, Nadeshiko, Rin, and Ayano camp together, a combination never seen before. While Rin has met Ayano before, this was their first time camping together, so it was a refreshing experience. The natural beauty of the Oigawa River is also captivating, so I can't wait to see how it's portrayed in the anime. If you're interested, be sure to read the original manga! That's all for today. Thank you for reading.
