Planet Samidare, which will be broadcast as one of the summer 2022 anime series, began serialization in Young King Ours in 2005 and ended in 2010. In other words, it has been 12 years since the serialization ended to be adapted into an anime! It is a battle fantasy in which 12 selected knights are given supernatural powers to confront a crisis on Earth. The knights are given a power called their Domain of Control and the right to make any one wish come true, and they become embroiled in life-risking battles. Here we have summarized the Domains and wishes of each of the 12 knights!
The Lizard Knight: Yuhi Amamiya's Controlled Domain: "Controlled Airspace: Heavenly Garden (Babylon)"
For some time after entering battle, Yuhi did not name his controlled domain and did not use any special powers. However, during his dream battle with Shinonome Hangetsu, he demonstrated the ability to expand his domain into a dome shape, hindering his opponent's movements while supporting his own.
Yuhi Amamiya's Wish
To cure her sick grandfather. Having lost both parents at a young age, she later suffered great trauma from the abuse she endured at the hands of her grandfather, leading to hatred for him. However, with only a short time left to live, her grandfather apologizes for his actions. After much conflict, Yuhi wishes to help her grandfather. However, after his illness is cured, his grandfather suddenly dies in a traffic accident.
Dog Knight: Shinonome Hangetsu's Control Domain: "Hōtengeki"
This ability allows him to create a rod-shaped force field using his control domain and slam it into the target. It is powerful enough to carve away clay dolls that would normally be difficult to damage, and can even be fired continuously. He is also a practitioner of the ancient martial art "Kokuun-ryū," demonstrating his incredible strength, having single-handedly wiped out entire gangs without using his control domain.
Shinonome Hangetsu's Wish
To pass on his skills to Amamiya Yuhi. After sustaining a fatal injury while protecting Yuhi in a fight with a mud doll, Hangetsu made a wish before dying and passed on his skills to Amamiya Yuhi. For Yuhi and Samidare, he was a trusted adult who had a great influence on them while they were alive, and continued to have a great influence on them even after his death.
Horse Knight Nagumo Souichiro's Control Domain: "Tilting Heavenly Plane"
The ability to generate a two-dimensional force field. It can be used for capture, and by coordinating with other knights, it can unleash powerful attacks. Nagumo's combat abilities are also high, specializing in kicking techniques. With his servants strengthened by Anima into spirit horses, he is able to unleash powerful kicking techniques by wrapping a belt-like area around his feet. The technique is called a Drill Kick.
Nagumo Souichiro's Wish
Unknown. It is unclear whether he has already used it or whether he finished the story without using it. As for wishes, they could function as insurance in case of a fatal blow, but that opportunity never came.
Crow Knight: Mikazuki Shinonome's Controlled Domain: "Controlled Barrier: Heaven-Sealing Formation"
Originally a self-taught martial artist with exceptional physical ability and talent, he lost his fight against Soichiro Nagumo because he didn't know how to use his Controlled Domain. However, after intensive training in the mountains, he mastered the "Controlled Barrier: Heaven-Sealing Formation," which allows him to move in three dimensions by using his Controlled Domain as a foothold. He also inherited his brother's technique, the Sunset Sky Lance, and masters the "Lance Army: Closed Heaven Formation," which projects a wide area of control.
Shinonome Mikazuki's Wish
Giving bread to a girl. While wandering around India, he gave bread to a dancing girl. He's not particularly picky about details, so he doesn't act with deep thought, and doesn't seem to have the slightest attachment to his wish.
Snake Knight: Hakudo Yayoi's Control Domain: "Flamberge"
He learned swordsmanship from the mysterious homeless man, Kamiya, and when fighting mud dolls, he uses a flamberge technique, a wooden sword wrapped in his control domain. While his attacks are powerful, they only have enough power to scratch the surface of the mud dolls. However, after defeating Yuhi in a duel for the right to become the Black Dragon (Invisible), he gains the enhanced ability of the "Yorozukubi Orochi" (Serpent of Ten Thousand Heads).
Hakudo Yayoi's Wish
To be able to die with her family smiling. This wish may come true years from now, on the day the Earth is destroyed, or at some unexpected day before that. If the Earth is saved, it may be sometime after that, but a contract has been made that her family will be able to die with a smile.
Black Cat Knight Kazemaki Leopard's Control Domain: "Creation Domain: Earth Mother Goddess (Qubeley)"
This ability is similar to the Wizard Animus' ability to create clay dolls. It also appears that he can use the standard Control Domain. His Control Domain is strengthened by his wishes, giving him the ability to create clay dolls.
Kazamaki Hyou's Wish
Strengthening his domain of control. Driven by his insatiable desire for knowledge, he interacted with Animus, who suggested they join forces, but he declined. Originally, he wished to master the Akashic Records, but was unable to do so, so he wished to strengthen his domain of control and gained the power to create clay dolls.
Rat Knight Taro Kusakabe's Control Domain: "Aragami"
Specializing in precision manipulation, he perfected the Aragami, a form of transportation that explodes fuel by finely stirring the air. He then trained and perfected a means of transportation using his control domain, but while using this means to shield Hanako Sorano from an attack by a clay doll, he was pierced through the back by the doll and died. Hanako was also pierced by the attack, and Taro's wish allowed her to be resurrected, so his death was considered a vain one. However, his actions brought about a major change in Hanako.
Taro Kusakabe's Wish
If Sorano Hanako were to receive a fatal wound, she would be healed. Taro died protecting Hanako from the mud doll's attack, so if he hadn't protected her, he wouldn't have died. However, his actions of protecting Hanako despite knowing this bring great sadness and strong resolve to those left behind.
Mantis Knight: Sorano Hanako's Control Zone: "It Gets Cold Quickly" → "The Hero's Sword"
Hanako's ability, which instantly freezes water by suppressing molecular movement, is the opposite of Taro's. Originally, she was emotionally weak and had little attachment to anything, so she named her ability "It Gets Cold Quickly." However, Taro's death brought about a major change in her, and she subsequently changed the name of her ability to "The Hero's Sword."
Hanako Sorano's Wish
Hanako wishes for the death of a serial killer she saw on the news. Due to her lack of attachment to anything, she wishes for the death of a serial killer she saw on the news by chance. As a result, she is burdened with karma and her mortality rate is rising, and she is fatally wounded in her fight with a clay doll.
Chicken Knight Hoshikawa Subaru's Control Domains: "Invincible Shield" and "Strongest Spear"
This control domain is activated in conjunction with Tsukishiro Yukimachi. He received instruction from Akiya Inachi, a swordfish knight, and calls him his master. He defeated a mud doll before joining up with Yuhi and the others. His control domains are "Invincible Shield" and "Strongest Spear," activated in conjunction with Tsukishiro Yukimachi. While they cannot be used consecutively, they offer strong defensive power and are powerful enough to destroy a mud doll in a single blow.
Hoshikawa Subaru's Wish
Yukimachi's wish is for Subaru to be happy. Coincidentally, Yukimachi's wish is also for Subaru to be happy. The two of them will use their combined overwhelming offensive and defensive power to fight to the end.
Turtle Knight Tsukishiro Yukimachi's Control Domain: "Invincible Shield" "Strongest Spear"
This Control Domain is activated together with Hoshikawa Subaru. While there are certain conditions for it to be activated by two people, no one other than Princess Samidare could use an attack powerful enough to destroy a clay doll in one hit.
Tsukiyo Yukimachi's Wish
For Subaru to be happy. From the outside, Subaru appears to be active and good at sports, while Yukimachi appears to be thoughtful and good at judgment, but in reality, it's the opposite.
Owl Knight: Crimson Sun's Realm of Control: "Causal Turbulence (Pandora)"
The ability to stir time. Newly created objects can be destroyed, but objects that have been around for a certain amount of time cannot. However, it turns out that this ability can be used to treat wounds. After defeating the body of the tenth clay doll hiding in Anima's house, Anima grants him the power of a mythical beast. Initially, he sides with Animus and does not participate in battle, but his ability to manipulate time and space was bestowed upon him by Animus.
Scarlet Sun's Wish
Refusal to return her powers. When the powers she was given were about to be returned during the final battle with Animus, she used her wish to refuse. As a result, Animus was unable to use his time-space-related powers, becoming a trump card for the Knights.
Swordfish Knight Akitani Inachika - Domain of Control: Unknown
He appeared as Subaru and Yukimachi's master, but was deceased by the time they reunited with Yuhi and the others. A psychic who has lived for 500 years, connected to the Akashic Records, he also predicted his own death 500 years later. His domain of control is unknown, but despite being fatally wounded by a mud doll's attack, he inflicts significant damage with a technique called "Amanonuboko."
Akiya Inachika's Wish
None. While he could have wished to heal his fatal wound, he dies without doing so.
[Samidare: Planet of Samidare] Summary of Controlled Zones and Wishes
I've put together a summary of the controlled zones and wishes of the knights who appear in Samidare: Planet of Samidare! Speaking of wishes, Madoka Magica has a similar setting, but the wishes in this work are treated less heavily. In fact, the author himself has mentioned this connection, so if you're interested, you might enjoy it even more by browsing the archives.
