Part 2 of the anime ended with the defeat of Trombe and High Priest Ferdinand's discovery of the world she lived in during Honnzuki Urano's time. The subsequent, cryptic conversation between the High Priest and Karstedt will be fully revealed in Part 3. Part 3 corresponds to Volume 8 of the novel, but the anime doesn't yet cover the end of Part 2, so this article will cover that part and the introduction to Part 3.

Myne's Winter Confinement ①

Myne Looks Cold

Myne was originally scheduled to live at the temple during the winter to work as a shrine maiden, but this plan has been brought forward a little. The reason for this was the ink made from the plant-based paper that Myne had created. The picture book, which had already begun sales, seemed to be well-received by the nobility, just as Benno had predicted, and sales were steadily increasing. However, the book did not use the common gall ink, but rather an oil-based paint made by Myne using soot and glue. Wolf, the president of the Ink Association, was the first to notice this, and came to visit the company.

Myne's Winter Hibernation ②

Angry Lutz

Benno says that there are many bad rumors about Wolf, and that he has a reputation for being a man who is willing to use dirty tactics to do business with aristocrats. On top of that, Lutz, who was at the merchant guild, was attacked by members of the Ink Association. Because of Myne's personality, she hates nothing more than the harm she would cause to those around her, so she began her winter hibernation earlier than planned to prevent further harm from coming to those around her.

Myne's New Guard

Damuel's Face

Myne begins her winter stay at the temple, but is immediately summoned by the high priest. Instead of the usual lecture, he discusses the punishment for the recent Trombe subjugation. Shikikoza, who called Myne a commoner and harmed her, was sentenced to death. Damuel, who tried to protect Myne, was only given a light punishment of a fine and a year's guard duty, thanks to Myne's defense. Word of Myne's great magical power and the fact that she was under the High Priest's protection began to spread among the nobles. Combined with the recent incident with the Ink Association, they foresaw further danger and decided to have the knight Damuel protect her.

Metal Type and Johann ①

Type

Even living at the temple, Myne's energy remained undiminished, continuing to create new products, including toys like playing cards, Reversi, and karuta, as well as recipes using Paru. Meanwhile, in the printing industry, she established the Plant Paper Association and the Printing Association, steadily building a foundation for book distribution. Her next step was letterpress printing. Rather than carving each individual letter into a mold, letterpress printing—which involves carving letters into a metal mold, arranging them, and then pressing the resulting text onto paper—offers high speed and accuracy, making it historically essential for the spread of books.

Metal Type and Johan ②

Johan

Myne is visited by Johan, an apprentice Dapla from the Blacksmiths' Association. Johan made a brief appearance in Part 2. The Blacksmiths' Association requires each student to find a patron and create something the patron specifies within one year before reaching adulthood. Due to his meticulous work and particular personality, Johann struggled to find a patron. Myne then requested metal type as a patron assignment. She successfully secured Johann, a blacksmith who could handle the delicate and large-volume task.

Stay Extended

Myne's printing business was progressing smoothly, and she had even completed the winter ritual at the temple, but her winter retreat was extended. The reason for this was the sudden death of Wolff, president of the Ink Society. According to the High Priest and Knight Commander Karstedt, who had been investigating behind the scenes, it appears that a nobleman killed him to silence him. Since it was highly likely that both Myne's presence at the temple and her vast magical power were known, it was decided that she would be hidden in the safety of the temple until the memorial service, which would reduce the number of nobles in the city.

The Prayer Ceremony and the Blue Priest Sylvester

Silvester's Face

Every year, during the prayer ceremony, shrine maidens and priests travel to each village to offer magical power to the Holy Grail. Myne, along with the head priest, Karstedt, her bodyguard Damuel, and a newly added blue priest named Sylvester, will ride their mounts to the village. Sylvester may have sharp eyes, bluish-purple hair, and a sturdy build, but he has a bad personality and is a strange character who is constantly mean to Myne along the way. Throughout the memorial service, Sylvester, curiously fascinated by the delicious food prepared by Myne's attendants and the beautiful hairpins, gradually becomes interested in her.

Sylvester Does Whatever He Wants①

After the memorial service, Myne thought she could finally go home, but the high priest asks her to show Sylvester around the temple. Sylvester's request to go hunting in the orphanage, the workshop, and the downtown forest forced her to quickly prepare for the trip. Myne was surprised that no priests expressed interest in seeing the orphanage, nor did any nobles express an interest in hunting in the forest. However, she decided to divide up the responsibilities and show the children around: Wilma in charge of the orphanage, Gil and Benno in charge of the workshop, and Lutz in charge of the forest.

Silvester Does Whatever He Wants②

Workshop View

After observing the immaculate cleanliness of the orphanage, Sylvester noticed children's picture books of the Holy Scriptures and toys for learning letters. Hearing that the children could read and do simple calculations on a dipstick thanks to the karuta cards they regularly play, Sylvester was amazed at their level of education. Next, at Myne's Workshop, we'll learn how to make plant-based paper, a prototype printing press, and a prototype metal type we recently ordered. We'll also see how printing can be done by arranging metal type and pressing it from above, bringing the tour to a successful conclusion.

Silvester Does What He Wants③

Forest Scene

The next day, Sylvester will be hunting in the forest, something he's been looking forward to. At first glance, Sylvester seems selfish, but he follows Lutz's instructions on how to hunt in the downtown forest and how to avoid disturbing other hunting grounds. By the end of the hunt, he's received praise for his archery skills from the children and returned home with a large haul of game. The children, who received meat that was rarely eaten at the orphanage, all called it "Master Jill," and Sylvester seemed pleased.

Doing Whatever He Wants ④

After the tour, Mine received a necklace set with a pitch-black stone from Sylvester. He promised to help her if she needed it, and with a rare serious look in his eyes, Sylvester said this. Sylvester, the blue priest, was a bit of an oddball and mysterious character, but he seemed to be a good person at heart, and he was supportive of Mine as he returned to the noble quarter.

Kidnapping Attempt

Finally, after a long, long life at the temple, Myne was finally able to return home to her family. She was spoiled by her family, but then another incident occurred. As she was heading home after finishing her usual work at the temple and being picked up by Tuuli and Lutz, someone approached her from behind, draping a burlap sack over her head and attempting to abduct Tuuli and Myne. Damuel, her guard, and her father, Gunther, and Otto rushed to the scene, captured the thief, but Myne and her family were severely injured.

At the Temple

Manga Cover 03

Following a sudden attack, Myne's father picks her up and heads to the temple to seek help from High Priest Ferdinand. Carried by her father, Myne signs a blood oath on the necklace she's wearing and asks Sylvester for help. Upon arriving at the temple and reuniting with Fran, they head to the High Priest's room, where they find the High Priest and a mysterious, fat nobleman with a lewd smile waiting for them. "I'll make a contract with you, Myne," the nobleman said in a husky voice. Myne firmly refused, but the nobleman continued, "...You can kill anyone except children. Capture them," mockingly ordering his guards.

Battle with the Nobles ①

Temple Master Angry

Darmuel takes on two of the men who jump at him, while his father and Fran take on the remaining one. Myne also deflects a blast of magical energy the nobleman unleashes from behind. Myne fights back against the nobleman, who continues to attack her, laughing like a small animal, calling her a mere commoner and a human-eater. However, when she hesitates for a moment, the temple's head priest, the Gray Priestess, approaches her from the side and catches her. With a grin on his face, the nobleman cuts Myne's hand, which is being held in a headlock, with a knife and approaches with a contract.

Battle with the Noble ②

Angry Father Gunther

"Let go of Myne!" shouts Father Gunther, kicking the Gray Priestess from behind and protecting Myne from the nobleman just in time. The nobleman, who was kicked away along with the shrine maiden, suddenly changed his calm expression to one of rage and unleashed the largest blast of magical power he had ever used. Gunther, who had instinctively shielded Myne, who had fallen in front of him, was crouched down in pain, his left shoulder and elbow swollen and red as if burned. Seeing his father collapse, Myne erupted in rage. "I won't forgive you!"

Battle with the Nobles ③

Angry Myne

Myne leaped in front of her father and unleashed all her magical power. An incredible amount of magical power intimidates the nobleman, who falls over and is so trembling he can't get up. "Count Bindewald?!" the temple head asks in an anxious voice, pointing the black magic stone at Myne. The magic stone steadily absorbs Myne's magical power, and the temple head laughs proudly, saying, "It's useless." But still, Myne continues to pour magical power into it with overflowing rage. The incredible power causes the area to be enveloped in a yellow light. "...What did you say?!" The extraordinary magical power, exceeding its capacity, causes cracks to run through the black magic stone, its color changes from black to yellow, and after a flash of light, it crumbles like sand.

Battle with the Nobles ④

High Priest's Face

Even after the magic stone shattered, Myne continued to unleash relentless magical power on the temple head, causing him to vomit blood. Just as she was about to deliver the final blow, Damuel, exhausted and behind Myne, collapsed. Seeing this as a turning point in the battle, the fallen nobleman prepared to unleash his magic once more. "What on earth is going on!?" Just as he was about to unleash his magic, the door in front of him opened, and the high priest appeared. The High Priest, unable to hear anything outside due to being in the preaching room, was shocked by the devastation before his eyes, but immediately asked the Temple Master for an explanation.

Temple Master and High Priest

The Temple Master argued that the nobleman was from another territory and therefore outside the law, and that Myne had attacked him and should be punished for treason. After hearing what the Temple Master had to say, Ferdinand approached Myne and told her that her family and attendants would also be executed for harming the Temple Master and a noble from another territory. "Ahh... Sylvester's amulet didn't work," Myne muttered sadly. Seeing the necklace around her neck, Ferdinand asked her if she was ready to be adopted.

Adopted Daughter Myne

"I'm Sylvester's adopted daughter, not Karstedt." Myne wondered why Sylvester's name was mentioned here instead of Karstedt's. But to protect her father, mother, Tuuli, and attendants, Myne replied with a straight look, "...If you can help us all, I'll gladly accept." Hearing this, the high priest grinned, turned around, and waved his baton at the temple master. A band of light wrapped around the temple master, restraining him. An immense magical power was unleashed on the nobleman, covering the entire hallway, leaving the two, still unable to comprehend what was happening, on the brink of death.

Lord Ehrenfest

Manga Cover 04

"Ferdinand, that's enough." Sylvester and Karsted appeared from the door leading outside. Standing before the temple master and the nobleman, Karsted said, "This is Lord Ehrenfest." Myne was relieved to see the help of these two familiar faces, while her father couldn't hide his surprise. That's only natural, since the only person who could bear the name of a town is the lord. In other words, the strange blue priest Sylvester was actually the lord of the town of Ehrenfest.

Myne's Future

Magic: Myne Praying

After capturing and taking away the temple master and the nobles from other territories, Myne is called into the high priest's chambers. Since the adoption to the lord was already finalized when the blood seal was stamped on the necklace, it was decided that Myne should be adopted by Karstedt and the nobles by Sylvester, rather than by the commoners, to avoid conflict. To erase all traces of her past family connection, Myne is declared dead and is forbidden from ever meeting Tuuli or her parents as family. Myne then became the adopted daughter of Lord Ehrenfest, taking on the new name of Rosemyne.

Summary

Manga Cover 05

So, with these events, Myne, now known as Rosemyne, heads to the noble quarter as the adopted daughter of Lord Ehrenfest. This is a sudden and sudden turn of events, followed by Myne's death and separation from her family. While this concludes Part 2, it's interesting to see what role Myne, now a noblewoman, will play in Part 3. Due to the progression of the comic, this story has not yet been fully explored in Part 2, so we recommend reading it in the novel or on the website "Let's Become a Novelist." It's definitely worth a read, as it gives you a deeper insight into the work, including detailed setting details and characters that weren't included in the anime.
