"Machikado Mazoku" is a four-panel manga serialized in "Manga Time Kirara Carat." Yoshida Yuko (Shamiko), a normal high school girl, suddenly awakens to the powers of the demon race and is given a mission to take on various battles. Although it is called a battle, there are no real battles, and the work has a strong slice-of-life element. The second season will be broadcast in April of this year, and it has attracted attention. In this article, we would like to introduce the plot of the original work, which is currently up to volume 6! It will include parts that have not yet been aired in the anime, so be careful of spoilers!
Synopsis 1: A High School Girl Awakens to the Power of Darkness
One morning, Yuko Yoshida, an ordinary high school girl, awakens to the power of darkness. She panics as she grows horns and a tail, but her mother informs her that the Yoshida family is actually a descendant of the Dark Clan. She also discovers that a curse has been placed on them by a magical girl from the Light Clan, causing their family to be poor. In order to defeat the magical girl, Yuko takes on the name Shadow Mistress Yuko (nicknamed Shamiko). However, shortly after leaving home, she is nearly hit by a dump truck on the road. The one who saved her from this crisis was the magical girl Chiyoda Momo. Shamiko discovered that she and Momo attended the same high school, and challenged her to a duel to defeat the enemy magical girl, but Momo's extraordinary strength made her no match for her. Witnessing Shamiko's weakness, Momo suggested she start weight training to build muscle, forcing Shamiko to ask her enemy for guidance.
Synopsis 2: The Relationship between the Dark Clan and Magical Girls
By absorbing the magical girl's blood, the Yoshida family was able to live a slightly more prosperous life, but Momo's blood was sucked, weakening her. When Momo was in danger, the magical girl Hinatsuki Mikan stepped in. She was cursed with a curse that caused minor difficulties to befall anyone who came into contact with her when she became upset. In an attempt to overcome the curse, Mikan went to the cinema with Shamiko and watched a horror film, a drastic attempt to cure her condition, but her condition did not improve. Meanwhile, Momo visits Shamiko's house. Momo's visit sheds light on the Yoshida family's past, as well as the connection and fate between the dark clan and magical girls.
Synopsis 3: Everyone gathers at Shamiko's apartment!
As Momo begins to descend into darkness, Shamiko seizes the opportunity to challenge her. They had intended to have a duel after school, but Momo mistakenly thought they were just going out to play, and the two went shopping at the mall together. In the end, Shamiko's challenge plan failed. Meanwhile, Mikan, who had been living with Momo, moves into the apartment building where Shamiko lives, "Panda-so." Momo, manipulated by her ancestor, also ends up living in the same apartment. Later, during a housewarming party, they discover that the box containing Shamiko's father is a factory at Mikan's family home. Shamiko and the others head to the factory, where they discover the walking stick her father used.
Synopsis 4: Summer vacation, and Momo's fall into darkness...
Shamiko, who hadn't finished any of her summer homework, decides to do it with Momo. She struggles with her essay on her "future dreams," but manages to finish it by relying on her memory. Afterward, Shamiko promises to go to the zoo with Momo. Momo asks her to make a lunch box, but she can't make one that looks impressive. With the help of her coworkers, she finally completes it. Eventually, the rest of the group gathers together and enjoys a trip to the zoo. However, their peaceful days are short-lived, as Momo falls into darkness and becomes uncontrollable.
Synopsis 5: The True Nature of Mikan's Curse
The curse that had been afflicting Mikan, bringing minor hardships to those who come into contact with her, is finally lifted, revealing the true nature of the curse: the monster Ugaruru. Incidentally, Ugaruru is originally the name of a Mesopotamian monster. Ugaruru was initially dangerous when it possessed Mikan, but it was suppressed by Momo's sister-in-law, Sakura Chiyoda, who created a "barrier that makes the harsh curse more humorous," transforming it into a comedic curse that causes rain to fall on Shamiko and her friends.
