The heroine of this work is "Shikimori-san," whose name is also the title. However, Shikimori-san is more than just a heroine! He's the protagonist and everyone's hero. He's so handsome that even men can't help but stare at him. But then he suddenly reveals his natural beauty and flustered side, making him a character full of interesting things to see. So, this time, we'll take a thorough look at the heroine of this work, Shikimori-san! We'll introduce not only what kind of character she is now, but also what kind of character she was in the past!
How did you first meet Izumi?
In "Shikimori-san: Not Just a Cutie," Shikimori and Izumi are already in a romantic relationship from the first episode. To find out exactly when and how they met, let's look back... The two first met on the day of their high school entrance exams. As usual, Shikimori's exam ticket was blown away by the wind, and Shikimori climbed a tree to retrieve it for him. She immediately left, but the next time they met was on the day of the entrance ceremony. Shikimori didn't remember Izumi at the time. Hearing Izumi's story, she remembered, but she immediately said, "Well... um, I'll be off," and prepared to leave. However, when she saw Izumi frantically thanking her, she changed completely. She grabbed Izumi's arm and, with a somewhat desperate expression, pressed her, "Tell me your name." From this point on, Shikimori began to show signs of being a carnivorous woman.
Is Shikimori narrow-minded when it comes to Izumi?
As always, the two are good friends in class. Shikimori is always cute and cool, yet has a kind personality. Seeing Shikimori like that, Izumi even remarks, "Shikimori never gets angry, does he?" However, when Shikimori leaves his seat, the boys in his class start teasing Izumi, saying things like, "Izumi-kun is a plain guy with a bad luck disposition," "Why didn't you date more handsome guys?", and "Izumi is such a wimp," among other things. However, he wasn't being bullied in any particular way, and Izumi didn't seem to mind at all, but Shikimori, who must have overheard what they were saying, returned in a rage. He was smiling in front of Izumi as usual, but when he left the classroom, he glared at the boys who had been teasing Izumi with a deadpan, stern look so Izumi wouldn't notice. Shikimori later reflected on this, saying, "Maybe I'm a little narrow-minded."
Shikimori-san is an exceptional athlete, skilled at everything from ball games to skiing and relay races.
Shikimori-san is known for her exceptional athletic ability and reflexes. In fact, she needed those skills to endure Izumi's misfortune... Although she isn't particularly involved in sports clubs, she teamed up with Ookamitani to defeat a pair of basketball players who had even made it to the prefectural junior high school tournament. In the volleyball tournament, she led her team, along with Nekozaki, to victory against a four-member volleyball club that were considered championship favorites. She dodged every bean thrown at Setsubun's bean-throwing ceremony, and continues to save Izumi from all kinds of danger. She's so good at it you'd think she might have eyes in the back of her head, and she can even effortlessly block a flying object flying at her without even turning around.
Is Shikimori's only weakness her bad cooking?
Shikimori is skilled at everything she does perfectly with hard work and talent, but she has one weakness: cooking. Izumi's food looks so amazing it's almost speechless, but the moment she puts it in her mouth, she bursts out laughing. At the time, Shikimori was so clumsy that he often hurt his hands while cooking, but by the end of volume 2 he had attended a cooking class and succeeded in making delicious food. However, Izumi's homemade bento was apparently far more delicious (according to Shikimori). It's typical of Shikimori to see how he was able to overcome his weaknesses in no time with effort. By the way, the main reason for the failure seems to have been that he didn't know how much "a little" meant (lol).
Shikimori-san is surprisingly possessive
Shikimori is kind to everyone and often gives in to others, but he seems incredibly possessive towards Izumi, and gets flustered and irritated over the smallest of things. For example, when Izumi was looking at an advertisement for women in swimsuits (in reality, he was just looking at them and thinking, "Wow, those abs are amazing"), Shikimori broke out in a sweat and panicked. He picked up the same swimsuit the model in the advertisement was wearing and said, "I was a little annoyed." He even cried when Izumi rescued a drowning girl and kissed her on the cheek. When Kujira jokingly tried to make a move on Izumi, he grabbed her hand and firmly refused, saying, "No."
Is Inutsuka Shikimori's biggest love rival?!
Izumi is generally plain, but for some reason, he's popular with beautiful girls and women. Izumi is liked by Ookamitani, one of the most beautiful (handsome) men in school, Kujira tells her about his dreams when they first meet, and he's even been kissed by a little girl... there are quite a few women who could become Shikimori's rivals. However, out of all of them, the one Shikimori is most wary of is his male friend Inutsuka! Izumi is often with Inutsuka at school, and when they're not together, Inutsuka looks after them. The look in Shikimori's eyes when he watches them get along well from afar is enough to intimidate Inutsuka. Izumi relies on Inutsuka in Izumi, and when she caught a cold, she asked Inutsuka to write her notebook for her instead of Shikimori, which also sparked Shikimori's animosity. Incidentally, Shikimori seems to see Inutsuka as an older brother, and once mistakenly calls him "big brother."
Shikimori-san is strong on the offensive but weak on the defensive
Shikimori-san isn't exactly the master of teasing... but he's basically always teasing Izumi. When he notices Izumi's excitement, he'll do something to make her even more excited, tease her with a little joke, or sometimes even make bold moves to toy with her. However, when the roles are reversed, he shows his vulnerability. Izumi's sometimes naive behavior can make him blush, especially... When he was kissed unexpectedly, he was extremely distraught both times. In particular, in the scene where he appears to have been kissed on the lips, he frowned, stiffened, and his face turned redder than ever before. Another time, when he was teasing Izumi, who didn't notice, he panicked and almost self-destructed.
Is Shikimori in middle school a completely different person than he is now?
By the time he was preparing for his high school entrance exams, Shikimori already had long hair and a demure image, but when he appeared in the past episode, he was a handsome man with short hair. He was a member of the karate club and didn't care about his clothes like he does now, even walking around outside in his tracksuit. He would call girls he met for the first time "kimi" (you), to the point that they would think, "You're not a boy, are you?" Shikimori had a boyish aura, but he also seemed interested in cute things like clothes and nails, and was always drawn to those kinds of conversations.
A Strange Relationship with Izumi's Parents
Shikimori and Izumi are a very close couple, but they are also close friends with Izumi's parents. They are so close that they call their parents by their first names and call them "Mi-chan" as a nickname. They go to cooking classes and shopping together with their mother, and they spend time together as rivals with their father, playing games and going to the sauna. While Shikimori has been confirmed to have an older brother and mother, the only name mentioned in the Shikimori family is her mother, Miyabi. (Shikimori is referred to as "Shikimori-san," "Shikimori," "Mitchon," or "Mi-chan." Her older brother is referred to as "Shikimori-nii.")
What's Shikimori's least favorite food?
As a perfect superhuman, Shikimori might seem like she doesn't have many likes or dislikes, but there's one food she doesn't like: sweet treats! She says she eats Izumi's sweets "so much that she wants to eat them every day," but she actually doesn't like them. When she tried the sweets Izumi ordered at a restaurant, she stuck out her tongue, saying they were too sweet. However, since she started dating Izumi, she seems to be overcoming this dislike.
