This is a battle action series that began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2013, and is written by Daisuke Ashihara. It has been serialized in Jump Square since 2019. The first season of the anime (73 episodes in total) was broadcast from October 2014 to April 2016, and the second season is scheduled to be broadcast in 2020. Border is an organization that protects the Earth from Neighbors (near-worlders). The protagonist, Osamu Mikumo, who belongs to the organization, meets Yuma Kuga, a Neighbor who came from outside the gate. Mikumo fights the Neighbors who attacked the school, but Kuga uses his "trigger" to help him when he is struggling. Mikumo of Border and Kuga of Neighbor, two people who should be enemies, end up joining forces to fight. In this article, I would like to introduce the plot of volumes 7 to 9, focusing on the large-scale invasion of the Neighbors. Please be careful if you haven't seen it yet as it contains spoilers! !
Episodes 53 to 61 (Volume 7)
Episode 53 "Tamakoma 1"
Konan and his team from Tamakoma 1, Border's strongest unit and Osamu's senior, have arrived at the scene. Osamu is instructed to cover for the C-classes while Tamakoma 1 wipes out the new strains. Then the Neighbors, the masterminds of the large-scale invasion, appear. They are targeting the "Golden Chick" (Chika, who has an enormous amount of Trion) who is among the non-combatants.
Episode 54 "Aftokrator"
Replica narrowed down the nations attacking Earth to two, "Kion" and "Aftokrator," and taught them how to tell them apart. Aftokrator has horns on its head, and those horns are trion receptors that give it combat power far superior to that of normal triggers. Furthermore, if the horns are black, it's a black trigger. Most of the newly appearing humanoid neighbors have horns, and some are black triggers. The invaders were "Aftokrator." Despite being outnumbered, they continue to purge Border members one after another.
Episode 55 "Tamakoma 1st ②"
Thinking that it would be troublesome to deal with both the new and humanoid forms at the same time, Tamakoma 1st leaves the two new forms to Konan alone. Osamu is surprised at Konan's ability to defeat the new forms in an instant. Unlike regular standardized triggers, Tamakoma's triggers are unapproved by headquarters and have been improved to suit the characteristics of the user. The reason Tamakoma does not participate in rank battles is because they use unapproved triggers. Replica also said that Konan's fighting style is similar to that of the Neighbors.
Episode 56 "Kazama Squad"
Kikuchihara of Kazama Squad's side effect was "enhanced hearing." This was 5 to 6 times the performance of an ordinary person, and was a modest ability among side effects. However, in order to differentiate himself from other squads that rely on vision for 80% of their perception information, Kazama decided to share Kikuchihara's hearing with his allies. This allows Kazama Squad to read the opponent's movements without relying on vision. They take advantage of this to defeat the Black Horn Neighbor, but it was Kazama who was defeated. Kazama is paled out, and the Kazama team is cornered. The Black Trigger is a formidable enemy that is not easy to deal with.
Episode 57 "Large-scale Invasion ⑦"
Kikuchihara and the others get angry after Kazama is defeated, but they leave by Kazama's orders. After defeating the new type, Tachikawa heads to the eastern district to protect the C-class and citizens. Border HQ decides not to engage the Black Trigger, but to leave it alone and let it float as a pawn. Meanwhile, Jin joins Arashiyama and the others to borrow Yuma to prevent the worst case scenario. The worst case scenario is that Osamu dies.
Episode 58 "Large-scale Invasion 8"
Yuma can't leave the restricted area, but Reiji and Tamakoma 1 are supposed to bring Osamu to the area. However, the Visa and Hughes that Tamakoma 1 is up against are tough, and they can't shake them off. Reiji and Konan hold them back, and Karasuma and Osamu change their plan to take the C-class, including Chika, to the base. Headquarters also orders support for Osamu and the others, but the team members are too busy to help. Will Miwa, who was asked by Jin, move to help Osamu?
Episode 59 "Large-scale Invasion ⑨"
Izumi, Yoneya, and Midorikawa take advantage of the terrain and the advantage of numbers to fight Lambanein. Their teamwork, which consists of diversion after diversion, makes it difficult for Lambanein to fight, but at the same time, Lambanein avoids fighting them and separates the three with a hail of shots. He aims for Midorikawa, who is left alone, but ends up cutting off his left leg instead.
Episode 60 "Large-scale Invasion 10"
After being completely defeated by Yuma, Midorikawa learned the importance of controlling the opponent. Those who think they can win should realize that they are being manipulated. Lambanein loses his composure due to the performance of the A-class. Azuma, who did not miss this, surrounds them with the B-class and takes advantage of their numerical advantage. Lambanein thought he had lured the enemy out, but he was defeated by Border, who fought as a team.
Episode 61 "Large-scale Invasion ⑪"
By forcing Lambanain to retreat, the future has moved forward a little. However, the decisive point is to get Osamu to the base. Jin, Yuma, and Replica move to achieve this. Meanwhile, Enedora, the black trigger that had been a floating pawn, has invaded the headquarters. The future is only a little away from being finalized...

In Volume 8, Aftokrator's Black Trigger and National Treasure go on a rampage. You won't be able to take your eyes off the back-and-forth battles and the rapidly changing developments. Will Osamu be able to reach the base...?
Episode 62 "Aftokrator②"
Facing Old Man Viza and Hughes, Reiji focuses on defense and holds them back. Old Man Viza gets serious, realizing that it's difficult to break down an enemy that's so focused on defense, and uses the "Star Staff." The "Star Staff" is one of Aftokrator's national treasures, and Aftokrator, who deployed it on the expedition, felt that a replica was no ordinary thing.
Episode 63 "Large-scale Invasion ⑫"
Reiji, who was tasked by Jin to buy time, held off Old Man Visa and Hughes as much as possible and paled out. Osamu and the others try to head to the headquarters through the passageway, but they can't contact the headquarters due to an Enedra attack and the door won't open. Soon Old Man Visa and Hughes catch up with them and they are in a desperate situation. Then, their strong allies Jin and Yuma appear with a bang.
Episode 64 "Large-scale Invasion ⑬"
With the arrival of Jin and Yuma, they succeeded in separating Old Man Visa and his friends from Chika. Yuma and his friends decided that working together would not be an advantage, so they decided to fight separately. Jin vs. Hughes, Yuma vs. Old Man Visa. Jin and his friends managed to stop the two, but Osamu and Chika's terrible future did not disappear.
Episode 65 "Large-scale Invasion ⑭"
Jin, who can see Hyuzu's future, asks him why he is being abandoned here with his abilities. Hyuzu is shaken when he hears this. He must have had some idea. Enedra invades the headquarters and goes on a rampage, causing devastating damage, but the Border side is not silent. Taking advantage of being inside the base, they launch a counterattack using virtual combat mode.
Episode 66 "Large-scale Invasion ⑮"
Suwa Squad, who locked Enedra in the training room, fights carefully to prevent him from leaving the room. They cannot defeat either of them in the training room, but the plan was to analyze the trigger in the meantime. Meanwhile, Yuma, who is fighting Old Man Visa, is struggling after his left hand is cut off. Old Man Visa is a powerful man, but Yuma realizes that even this is a decoy and sends a replica to Osamu and the others as soon as possible.
Episode 67 "Large-scale Invasion ⑯"
Osamu and his friends head to the headquarters with the C-class. The three A-classes, including Yoneya, come to help, but it's still difficult to deal with all the new types, and some of them chase Osamu and his friends. Osamu's strength is no match for them, but Chika pours her own Trion into Osamu. Osamu's attack using Chika's Trion completely destroys the Rabbit. Seeing this, Aftokrator's commander Hyrein sets out to capture Chika himself.
Episode 68 "Aftokrator③"
Osamu and the others, who have joined up with the A-class, switch from retreat to intercepting due to Osamu's attack using Chika's Trion. However, Hyrein's bird attacks turn the team members into cubes one after another. Midorikawa and Yoneya are also paled out by the attack that turns even their weapons into cubes. Osamu attacks from Hyrein's blind spot, but is easily repelled and Chika is turned into a cube.
Episode 69 "Mikumo Osamu ⑧"
Chika has been turned into a cube, but Osamu runs to the base, believing Izumi's words that if he goes to the base, he will be able to do something about it. Osamu runs away with a desperate feeling, but is driven into a corner by the quality and quantity of the attacks. Then the replica that was heading to Osamu at Yuma's command arrives. The replica that is not holding back was created by analyzing Rabbit.
Episode 70 "Large-scale Invasion ⑰"
Enedra, who was locked in the training room, understood the mechanism and intent. At the same time, the Border side analyzed that Enedra's black trigger "can change into not only liquid but also gas." Enedra, who left the training room, tried to go on a rampage again, but it was Shinoda Masashi, the strongest man with a normal trigger, who stopped him. Approximately 960 seconds until the future branching point.
Episodes 71-72 (Volume 9)
In Volume 9, you can see the power of Chief Oshida and the power of Border's cooperation! Everyone's actions are changing the future little by little, but the worst future has not changed decisively. In order to change this, it is most important that Osamu reaches the base.
Episode 71 "Large-scale Invasion ⑱"
Finally, the strongest regular trigger man descends onto the battlefield. Enedora, who has revealed too much of his secret, is cornered in one go, but he uses a dummy to escape just before the end. Enedora, who is upwind, hits Shinoda with a fatal blow. However, Shinoda, the Suwa Squad, and the Kazama Squad pile up diversions, and the covert group moves to finish him off. In the end, they succeed in defeating Enedora through team play.
Episode 72 "Large-scale Invasion ⑲"
Border decided to capture Enedra as a prisoner, but Mira came to retrieve him. However, she only retrieved the black trigger and finished off Enedra before leaving. Hughes and Enedra are abandoned... It seems that trouble is also occurring within Aftokrator.
Episode 73 "Large-scale Invasion 20"
Izumi destroyed the building to allow the sniper's line of fire. Izumi cuts down the guard, and the sniper aims for that. It seems as if they have cornered Hirain with a brilliant teamwork, but Hirain collects cubes and regenerates. Izumi can't stand this and pales out. However, they have managed to buy time. Osamu has 3 minutes left until he arrives at the base.
Episode 74 "Kyousuke Karasuma"
Karasuma was told by Jin that he was not in a position to change the future. Still, he goes all out to challenge Hyrein to earn the last three minutes. However, Mira uses warp and takes Hyrein to Osamu and the others. Hyrein purposely stayed behind to separate Karasuma and the others from Osamu. As Jin predicted, Karasuma was not in a position to change the future, but by sending information about the black trigger to Osamu, the future moved a little.
Episode 75 "Large-scale Invasion 22"
Osamu is now 120 meters away from the base. Thanks to Karasuma's information, Osamu and Replica know that the cube-forming attack only reacts to Trion, so they cut through the building and head for the base. Just before they reach the base, they are sandwiched between Mira and Hyrein, but Miwa, who Jin had asked for Osamu, appears.
Episode 76 "Miwa Hidetsugu"
While Miwa holds back Hyrein, Osamu heads for the base and finally reaches the base. However, Mira, who uses warp, immediately chases after Osamu. Yuma, who is facing the strongest enemy among the enemies, Old Man Visa, is unable to show his true power because he is separated from the replica body. Normally, Yuma would not take on a fight with a low chance of winning, but after meeting Osamu, he learned that there are battles you cannot back down from.
Episode 77 "Large-scale Invasion 22"
With Yuma holding back Old Man Visa and Miwa holding back Hyrein, Osamu can get into the base if he can break through Mira. But then Rabbit, created by the replica, catches up. Both Hyrein and Mira say they don't get along, and it seems like the situation has been reversed, but Mira uses a small window to cut the replica body in half.
Episode 78 "Kuga Yuma ⑨"
Feeling that fighting like this would be a waste of time and Trion, Yuma launches an attack that focuses on the key points of reading. The attack is so honest that Old Man Visa cuts Yuma in half, but Yuma had done it on purpose. He defeats Old Man Visa in his Trion body before the transformation and heads to Osamu.
Episode 79 "Large-scale Invasion 23"
Since the cube attack only reacts to Trion, the attack can be nullified by deactivating the trigger. However, this is a very dangerous strategy as it leaves you naked. Osamu, who has made up his mind to protect Chika, deactivates the trigger and runs the remaining distance to the base. Hyrein, who is not affected by the trigger attack, launches a direct attack on Osamu. To stop it, Yuma activates the "Double Bullet Mark" and Miwa activates the "Kazeha". 7 seconds left until the turning point of the future.
