The long-awaited second season of Kaguya-sama: Love is War, which was adapted into an anime in 2019 and has been the subject of much discussion, including a surprise live-action adaptation that has even been featured in the magazine, will begin in April. The title of the second season has been updated from Kaguya-sama: Love is War to Kaguya-sama: Love is War?. What's more, the love battle of wits between the geniuses has been crossed out. Is it meaningful, or has it stopped being about geniuses or a battle of wits in the first place? Let's take a look at some of the intriguing highlights of the second season!
How much of the original work will Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 2 be?
The first season of Kaguya-sama: Love is War mainly included episodes from volumes 1 through 5 of the manga. So, simply put, it's likely that episodes from volumes 5 through 10 will be included. However, there are some episodes from volumes 1 through 5 that haven't been included, some of which connect to later episodes (such as Gian and Shirogane). Maki's full appearance is in volume 10, so it's unclear whether she'll have a role.
Kaguya-sama Season 2 Highlights Part 1: Opening Theme
The opening of the first season was shocking. The opening theme featured a voice unfamiliar to anime songs, and some may have thought it wasn't what they were expecting. However, upon closer listening, the impressive vocals and satisfying vocal ability made it a memorable masterpiece. Everyone must have thought he was a promising newcomer in the anime song world.
Isn't that Masayuki Suzuki?!
The opening theme was sung by Suzuki Masayuki. He's a newcomer with a name that sounds familiar, like a popular, big-name singer. Oh, it's Suzuki Masayuki! His sudden appearance in the anime song world was so shocking that I had to take a second look. The opening theme for the second season is definitely worth checking out.
Kaguya-sama Season 2 Highlights Part 2: Fujiwara Falls to the Victim of Shirogane
Shirogane Miyuki, the protagonist and student council president, appears flawless, but in reality, he's a flawed character in many ways. However, he's also a character who works hard because if he ignores his flaws, he'll be called cute. In the first season, Fujiwara happens to help Shirogane overcome his weaknesses, but Shirogane's flaws are so extreme that Fujiwara, forced to help him overcome them, is left devastated. Fujiwara regrets never saying sorry again, but of course, this was just the beginning.
He'll definitely be sacrificed in Season 2
In Season 1, we saw a number of incompetent characters, such as his hatred of bugs, his inability to swim, and his lack of athletic ability. However, Shirogane still has many flaws. His incompetence is constantly revealed, and with Fujiwara's help, he overcomes his weaknesses, leaving Fujiwara completely devastated. This is the established pattern. I'm sure there will be incompetent Shirogane and sacrificed Shirogane in Season 2, so it's definitely worth watching.
Kaguya-sama Season 2 Highlights #3: A New Character Appears!
A new character will be introduced in Season 2. I think there will be many fascinating new characters, including Iino Miko, a first-year student who will become a student council member; Oosato Kobachi, Miko's longtime friend and one of the most beautiful girls in the school; Koyasu Tsubame, who will have a major role with Ishigami during the sports festival; and Kaguya's doctor.
There were also characters like this...
Speaking of which, there is a minor character who made a brief appearance in the first season. She appears here and there, but will there be any opportunities for her to appear in full? In the original manga, it's unclear whether her promotion to semi-regular role will fit into the second season. If she doesn't appear in the second season, that may be symbolic of this character.
Kaguya-sama Season 2 Highlight #4: Look forward to Ishigami's exploits as Student Council Treasurer!
Ishigami, one of Kaguya-sama's most captivating characters, is strangely perceptive and prone to unconsciously stepping on landmines. The scene where he mercilessly and rationally cuts down Fujiwara, who usually behaves unreasonably, is particularly entertaining and a highlight.
Will Ishigami's past be explored?
Ishigami's past, as a recluse and shunned by his classmates, will be explored, and there will likely be an episode focusing on him. The original comic is also expected to be interesting, so please read that as well.
Kaguya-sama Season 2 Highlight #5: Kaguya Becoming Idiot
Shinomiya Kaguya is talented in all areas, excelling in both academics and sports, but the first season already cemented her image as an idiot. However, there were still glimpses of genius in the first season. While it might be fair to say that genius and idiot are a fine line, the second season makes you wonder if she's not a genius at all, but an idiot.
Is this why the title changed?
Kaguya's stupidity continues to escalate, which may be why the subtitle "A Genius' Battle of Wits in Love" has disappeared from the title. The number of arguments that could be considered battles of wits is visibly decreasing. But the series is getting more interesting. In fact, Kaguya's stupidity is a highlight of the series.
Kaguya-sama Season 2 Highlight #6: The Occasional Good Stories
Kaguya-sama is a comedy-driven anime that's fun and will have you laughing out loud, but it also has the occasional serious, good story. While it's mostly comedy, the occasional good story can be touching or heartbreaking, and the characters are explored in just the right way. I think there will be episodes like this in Season 2, so it's definitely worth checking out.
[Kaguya-sama: Love is War] Season 2 Highlights Summary
The highlight of Season 2 is the further refinement of the high-level, low-level squabbles between the geniuses seen in Season 1, and there are plenty of hilarious scenes to enjoy. There are also plenty of other highlights, including episodes that delve into new and existing characters, and Maki's tragic experiences, so be sure to tune in! The long-awaited second season of Kaguya-sama is scheduled to air in April.
