After a little over a year since airing in January 2019 and garnering a huge response, "Kaguya-sama: Love is War" is now set to air its second season in April. The title is "Kaguya-sama: Love is War?" with a question mark next to it, and the subtitle "A Geniuses' Battle of Wits in Love" is crossed out, making for a rather mysterious second season. We're not sure if this is because "when you think about it, not only has it become less about genius and less about the battle of wits, but it's even become unclear what exactly it means to want to confess," or if there's some other reason, but we'd like to introduce the synopsis of this second season!

How did the first season end? How will Season 2 begin?

Let's all do fireworks together

The ending of Season 1 was unusually serious for the comedy-heavy Kaguya-sama series, with Shirogane showing his manliness at the final fireworks festival of summer vacation. However, on the flipside, it ended in a way that felt both satisfying and unsettling, with another chapter in Shirogane's dark past being written.

Season 2 begins with the second semester!

Itakatta Shirogane

The second season begins with the end of summer vacation and the second semester. There are endless questions: Did the summer fireworks festival bring the two closer together? Or is that really not the problem? How much of this battle of wits will there be? Are these guys really geniuses? But the story itself begins as usual, without any particular changes.

Notable Episode #1 of Season 2: "Kaguya Wants to Choose"

Fujiwara Wants to Play Games

Shortly after the start of the new semester, Kaguya and the other second-year students had to choose their elective classes. Naturally, Shirogane and Kaguya wanted to choose the same elective classes... But that didn't mean they could do something cute like asking each other which elective classes they were choosing! As always, their pride wouldn't allow it. The two engaged in a psychological battle to find out which elective classes each other would choose.

Shirogane tries to choose music

Fujiwara blocks him

This is a rare episode featuring a serious battle of wits over love, but the highlight is Shirogane's attempt to choose "music." In a certain episode (not included in the first season), Shirogane's true identity as Gian was revealed, and Secretary Fujiwara's noble sacrifice helped him improve, but it left Secretary Fujiwara deeply traumatized. It will be interesting to see how Secretary Fujiwara reacts.

Notable Episode #2 of Season 2: "Chika Fujiwara Wants to Check"

Shirogane is Happy with the Present

This episode focuses on President Miyuki Shirogane's birthday. Kaguya, eager to celebrate Shirogane's birthday, manages to do a lot of stupid things, but then she uses Fujiwara as an excuse to corner Shirogane. However, Kaguya is so happy that Shirogane is using her present that she can't think straight and ends up cornered instead. It was that man who saved Kaguya from such a predicament!

Looking forward to Ishigami's performance!

Fujiwara I Didn't Know

In the first season, Ishigami repeatedly beat up Secretary Fujiwara with his sharp, logical arguments, and that sharpness is still alive and well in the second season. The scene in the first season where Ishigami beats Secretary Fujiwara like trash was a hilarious one. Naturally, there are plenty of scenes where he punches Fujiwara in the second season as well. I think Fujiwara's petty nature and Ishigami's constant barking at him with his logical arguments are major highlights of the Kaguya-sama series.

Notable Episode 3 of Season 2: "Kaguya-sama Wants to Get Married"

Fujiwara suggests playing the card game of Sugoroku that the TG Club created. Shirogane and Kaguya have a bad feeling about this and refuse, but it's none other than Ishigami who comes to his rescue! Touched by the support from his junior, who regularly beats him up with sound reason, Fujiwara expresses his gratitude, saying, "I'm sorry, I always thought of you as an abusive man who beats people up with sound reason..." And so, somehow, the Student Council members end up playing Sugoroku.

Kaguya Hands Out Cash

Kaguya Hands Out Cash

This sugoroku game, based on the Game of Life, was, to put it mildly, a crappy one. Ishigami quickly dies, leading to a dead end. Even within the game, Kaguya's mind is constantly being worn down by shocking events. Even after this, Kaguya occasionally resorts to greedy, silly behavior, trying to solve problems with large amounts of cash.

Notable Episode #4 of Season 2: "Iino Miko Wants to Be Corrected"

Student Council Election

With this year's Student Council work coming to an end, Shirogane once again ran for Student Council President for Kaguya's sake. His rival was Iino Miko, a first-year student with a history with Ishigami. Miko will be competing against Shirogane and Ishigami in the Student Council election, but her strong-willed and inflexible nature makes her vulnerable to ill will.

Miko's First Appearance!

Miko-chan appears

Kaguya-sama's newest member and regular character, Iino Miko, will likely be aboard. After the election, she'll play an active role as a new member of the student council. Spoiler alert: Miko ends up losing the election and becoming a student council member. Well, if Shirogane and the others hadn't won, it would have been the final episode... She and Ishigami have a bad relationship, but it feels like something unusual is about to develop.

Notable Episode #5 of Season 2: "Kaguya Wants to Be Examined"

Kaguya Collapses

Kaguya, who has always been physically weak, collapses due to a sudden incident and is rushed to the hospital. It is also said that her mother also died of heart disease. The doctor who examines Kaguya is the Shinomiya family's renowned physician, Shozo Tanuma. It seems he had some kind of past acquaintance with Kaguya's mother. What kind of examination will this renowned doctor give? What will Kaguya's fate be?

Famous Doctor Shozo Tanuma

Famous Doctor Tanuma

Kaguya's illness was a first for even the famous doctor Tanuma. It becomes clear that Kaguya's collapse was incredibly humiliating and embarrassing. Furthermore, this famous doctor, Shozo Tanuma, has a rather revealing past: he got married at the age of 17 after getting pregnant. His son also got married at the age of 17 after getting pregnant. His grandson, who attends Shuchiin Academy, is apparently 17 this year.

Notable Episode 6 of Season 2: "And Then, Ishigami Yu Closed His Eyes ③"

Ishigami's Dark Past

Student council treasurer Ishigami Yu is hated like the plague by his peers. He's now a former recluse, but what led him to become like that? This episode explores Ishigami's struggles as an extroverted member of the Sports Festival Executive Committee, a hotbed of popular people, in an attempt to change himself, and explores his past. An unforgettable sports festival is about to begin for Ishigami! This is an intriguing episode about a man who may become the protagonist and start a sequel once Kaguya-sama ends its serialization.

Ishigami's Past

It was revealed in the first season that Ishigami was a former hikikomori (recluse) and a loner who was constantly gossiped about by his classmates, but the reasons for his behavior were never explained. Many people are curious about Ishigami's past, and his cleansing after the sports festival is a must-see. I feel like this will be one of the best episodes of Kaguya-sama!

Notable Episode #7 of Season 2: "Shijo Maki Wants to Do Something"

Helpless Maki-chan

Shijo Maki, a relative of Kaguya Shinomiya and a young lady with a similar personality, makes her first appearance! ...However, she actually made several appearances in the first season. She has feelings for Kashiwagi's boyfriend, and when she sees their relationship escalate after they start dating, her heart breaks endlessly.

Despair is Her Goal

Shirogane and the others trampling on Maki-chan

She's a charming character, arrogant and reminiscent of someone else, but since Kashiwagi is predestined to become pregnant at the age of 17, her wish will never come true. Furthermore, the manga is being compiled at the very last minute, and there's a possibility that the second season will end abruptly with Ishigami's episode, so she may not even appear. No matter how hard she tries, despair is her goal.

[Kaguya-sama: Love is War] Season 2 Summary

The highly anticipated second season of Kaguya-sama, which garnered a huge response as an anime, was even adapted into a live-action film, and the comics even teased the live-action adaptation, will begin airing in April! There's plenty to see in the second season, so be sure to check it out! Additionally, reruns of the first season will also begin, so it might be a good idea to review the first season now!
