Wave, Listen to Me!, a manga currently serialized in Monthly Afternoon, will be adapted into an anime starting in April 2020. It is written by the author of Blade of the Immortal, but rather than being a crazy story filled with swords and blood splattering everywhere, it is a crazy story filled with verbal knives and broadcasting accidents set in a modern-day radio production site. The main character, Tsumura Minare, becomes involved in radio production through an unexpected turn of events and ends up having her own show. We would like to introduce the content of Wave, Listen to Me!, the radio show produced by Minare and her team.

"Wave, Listen to Me!" Episode 0: "Madoka Kayashiro's September Blue Moon"

Minare Bursts into the Radio

Minare's radio debut, which nearly caused a broadcast accident, was on a show hosted by popular personality Madoka Kayashiro. After hearing the recording of Minare drunkenly complaining to a stranger, she dropped her job and went to storm the radio station.

The Actual Debut

Minare is Tricked

Minare even went so far as to barge into the broadcasting room to stop her own recording, but was persuaded by the person who created this situation, director Kenji Asato, who had recorded Minare's drunken complaints, to speak live on air. Minare then apologized for what she had said and issued a death threat to her ex-boyfriend, who had deceived her and swindled 500,000 yen out of him. This incident led Asato to discover her talent, and Minare became involved in radio programs.

"Listen to the Waves!" Episode 1: "The Woman Who Just Killed the Man Who Betrayed Her and Ran Away"

Minare Did It

The first episode of "Listen to the Waves!" is a fictional live broadcast, "The Woman Who Just Killed the Man Who Betrayed Her and Ran Away." It begins with a crazed Minare revealing that she has murdered her boyfriend, Mitsuo. To create the illusion of a broadcast accident, Mato provided direction and advice. Minare's terrifying talk, combined with the late-night broadcast, make this episode a shocking one.

The story takes a completely unexpected turn

Mitsuo's current girlfriend tries to kill him

I just killed someone, but it felt no more like the time my family dog accidentally bit someone and was taken to the animal shelter. From this somewhat realistic conversation, the story takes an increasingly bizarre turn, ending with a sci-fi feel. This chaotic content was spread by Asato on social media, becoming a hot topic. Also, around this time, Minare's ex-boyfriend, who had cheated on her, was nearly murdered by another woman, but narrowly escaped death thanks to Minare's radio show.

"Wave, Listen to Me!" Episode 2: "I Buried My Murdered Ex-Boyfriend"

Minare Buries Mitsuo

After that broadcast, Minare's ex-boyfriend, Mitsuo, boldly tried to contact her. Minare was almost persuaded by his eloquent talk, but ultimately broke up with him by dropping him on her head with a Frankensteiner. She then used a processed audio recording of that conversation on the radio to make a complete break with Mitsuo.

Mitsuo Comes Back to Life

Mitsuo Zombie

Minare and a male acquaintance bury Mitsuo, whom they murdered, in the pouring rain (that's the story). As they head home after burying Mitsuo, the acquaintance, who had conspired with them, is somehow buried in the ground and dead. The next moment, Mitsuo, whom they thought they had killed, crawls out of the ground. It turns out that a god resides in the place where they buried him, and that god temporarily revives Mitsuo and attempts to reincarnate him and Minare into the next life. However, Minare is not the type to simply say "yes" to such a thing.
In other words, it's science fiction again.

"Listen to the Waves!" Episode 3: "The Cursed Neighbor"

The Neighbor's Room

In search of material for her radio show "Listen to the Waves!", which features a different topic each time and a free-flowing approach to broadcasting, Minare scoots through listener submissions for ideas. One person catches her eye: a neighbor from her former apartment where she once lived and whom she framed for a crime. Apparently, this neighbor is plagued by terrifying paranormal phenomena.

The Unexpected Real Culprit

Lump of Meat in the Attic

Minare and Mizuho enter their neighbor, Oki Shinji's, room, only to find it filled with exorcism items. A short time later, a putrid odor and a blood-like liquid begin to flow from the ceiling. Minare decides to investigate, and finds traces of a leaking water pipe and multiple bags of meat. Minare reports the incident, and Oki is arrested... but the truth is that the person who lived above had temporarily stored a large amount of raw meat under the floorboards. The storage space leaked, mixing it with the water from the leak. And it was Minare who used to live in the room above. Minare was the root of all evil.

"Listen to the Waves!" Episode 4: "Answering 20 People's Love Advice Within Sight of a Wild Brown Bear"

Kotooshū Heal Yourself with Kotooshū 1

As usual, this radio show is chaotic, with love advice answered from a perspective where a brown bear is within sight and about to attack. Minare is about to be attacked by a brown bear, so there's no way she can give sincere love advice, and she simply dismisses it with the simple words, "Read Kotooshū's blog and find healing."

A Deadly Battle with a Bear

Minare Confronts a Brown Bear

Captured and chased by a brown bear, Minare resolves to confront it. From there, the love advice session takes a turn, and she begins to give sharp, memorable responses in between deadly battles with the bear. Ultimately, Minare defeats the bear with her bare hands. However, this convincing performance had to be redone when the Voyager store manager discovered that subliminal messages had been mixed into the audio he requested to be played on the radio.

"Wave, Listen to Me!" Episode 5: "A Yakuza's Pure Proposal"

Mysterious Message

This episode was recorded as a filler for Minare and the others, who were accompanying Kureko on a reporting trip. While Minare's machine gun-like talk is a highlight of this episode, it's actually a filler episode in the manga.

"Listen to the Waves!" Episode 6: "Now Kidnapped by a Religious Group"

Mysterious Message

Minare and Mizuho accompany TV writer Katsuzo Kurenko on a reporting trip, but when their guide leads them to a location where they are kidnapped by the religious group "Nami no Chieha." The three are forced to create a radio program, but they discover a conspiracy to create honey traps and sonic weapons. Under the religious group's surveillance, they are forced to create and broadcast a radio program, but they manage to slip an SOS message into the broadcast that only their colleagues would pick up on.

[Listen to the Waves!] Radio Episode Summary

"Listen to the Waves!" is the show that stars the main character Minare, and every episode takes a completely unexpected turn. The show is based on the troubles Minare gets caught up in, making it incredibly hilarious! I think the anime will be just as funny, so be sure to check it out!
