Wave, Listen to Me! is a story about a girl whose talent is discovered by chance and who gets involved in a radio program despite encountering various troubles, and it will be made into an anime starting in April 2020. The characters, starting with the main character Minare, have brilliant word sense, and the interactions between them, not only with those involved in the radio program, but also with the staff at the curry shop "VOYAGER" where Minare works part-time, are very entertaining. Here, we've put together a list of people involved with the curry shop "VOYAGER"!
Our protagonist, Minare Tsumura, five seconds before she's fired.
After complaining to a stranger at an izakaya about how her ex-boyfriend scammed her out of 500,000 yen, our protagonist finds herself working as a radio personality. She works at the curry shop "VOYAGER," but her frequent tardiness and the discretion of the gay manager put her at risk of being fired. While she's popular with customers and excellent at her job, her frequent problematic behavior has led to her being fired by the manager, but for various reasons, her dismissal has been put on hold until now.
Minare Doesn't Want to Quit
After securing a job in the radio industry, she acts vindictively toward the manager who notified her of her dismissal, but then turns her back on him when she learns she's only a one-day-a-week assistant. She then finds herself in a dire situation, losing her home, but when the manager is involved in a traffic accident, the situation becomes unresolved. In the end, she continues to feel on the brink of being fired at any moment, but with her unstable radio job, she's trying to find a way to repay her manager's kindness.
Yoshiki Takada, Manager of the Bread and Curry Shop "VOYAGER"
The manager of the curry shop "VOYAGER" and Minare's nemesis. Minare is well-liked by customers and is by no means a useless employee, but she is often late and prone to talking nonsense. Therefore, he gives her notice of dismissal, likely to prevent her from doing anything wrong. He is gay, and Minare fears him for his ruthless comments, even though he is technically a woman.
A Slightly Dark Manager
Early in the story, he gives Minare notice of dismissal, but due to an unforeseen traffic accident and subsequent hospitalization, the matter has remained unresolved to this day. Even after his release from the hospital, he has repeatedly threatened to fire her, but for various reasons, he has yet to go ahead with it. In reality, he sometimes appears to be an understanding adult, but he uses his nephew as an excuse to play a song he made on the radio, and in fact, he has a dark side, as he once tried to play a song containing subliminal messages on Minare's radio show.
Nakahara Chuya, one of the most good-looking young men in the series, has a crush on Minare.
He's one of the most talented staff members in "VOYAGER," though he seems a bit mischievous. He's in charge of the kitchen, and when the manager leaves due to an accident, he becomes the mainstay of the restaurant. He hopes to open his own restaurant in the future. He's earnest, honest, and one of the most likeable characters in the series, and at the curry shop, he plays the role of the straight man to Minare and the manager. Even though he offers advice about Minare's radio show, his kindness often shows and he's often found completely useless or unnecessarily hurt.
For some reason, he develops feelings for Minare
He's a sincere, earnest, and good-looking young man with a bright future, but for some reason, he develops feelings for Minare. While he occasionally shows signs of manliness, Minare, who is even more manly, doesn't see him as a romantic interest. Despite his tendency to repeatedly boast about Minare, he's insensitive to the affection shown to him, and is completely unaware of the feelings of his colleague, Jouka Makie, who has feelings for him.
Yanagawa Kunio, a part-time worker and University of Tokyo dropout
A part-time worker at "VOYAGER." He has an exotic appearance, but is likely Japanese. His earnest and capable appearance is a facade. In reality, he has earned the manager's trust, and is searching for the location of the safe and planning to steal money. From the content of their conversation, it appears he has committed similar crimes before. Apparently, he majored in Indian philosophy while at university.
The Man Who Disappeared
Yanagawa had been planning this, but just as he was gaining the manager's trust and the plan was reaching its climax, he and the manager were involved in a traffic accident and hospitalized. The plan fell through, and it was discovered that he had been stealing medical morphine from the hospital and selling it to drug dealers, leading to his arrest by the police. It's a mystery why he even had a connection to drug dealers in the first place. It's unlikely to be explained again.
The strongest swordsman in the series... a woman with no connection to him: Jouka Makie
This woman begins working at Voyageur after taking responsibility for her brother's accident. While she looks and has a similar name to someone, she's neither the strongest swordsman nor a prostitute in the series, has no connection to Ittou-ryu, doesn't wield bending weapons, and wasn't born in the Edo period.
A lookalike of Ototachibana Makie from "Blade of the Immortal"
This character is inspired by Ototachibana Makie, a character from the author's masterpiece, Blade of the Immortal. She shares many similarities in personality and circumstances, and appears as a modern-day version of Ototachibana Makie. According to the author, a female acquaintance once told her, "If Makie were alive today with that personality, she'd be a very troublesome woman."
This is the situation she found herself in
She lives a life of semi-confinement under her pathologically overprotective brother. After an accident caused by her brother, she escapes and begins working at "VOYAGER" to take responsibility for the accident. Although quiet and reserved, she is an excellent employee and good-looking, making her a popular staff member. Minare believes that her position is being taken away from her. She also develops feelings for her coworker, Chuya Nakahara, after he hides her when she has nowhere to go, but he doesn't seem to notice.
