"Haikyu!!" is a hugely popular high school boys' volleyball series. With its cool high schoolers competing in heated matches, it's beloved by sports manga fans and women alike. It's been adapted into various forms, including anime and 2D and 5D versions, with the anime currently airing three seasons. Anticipation is building even higher with a fourth season scheduled for 2020. Here, we'll introduce what season of "Haikyu!!" will cover and what to look forward to!
What will season 4 cover? What can you expect?
First of all, what part of the original manga will "Haikyu!!" Season 4 cover? In terms of the manga, I think it will start around volume 24. And judging from the flow of seasons 1 and 2, it's a sure thing that the series will be broadcast over two cours! Therefore, the content is likely to cover the training camp through the conclusion of Inarizaki High School's first and second round matches in the national tournament. Fans will be really looking forward to it.
Highlight 1: The training camp is exciting!!
I'm sure "Haikyu!!" Season 4 will begin with the training camp. Speaking of training camp, it's a popular episode in the series.
Kageyama is chosen!
To my surprise, Tobio Kageyama was called up to the All-Japan Youth Training Camp. The All-Japan Youth is a national team consisting of players under 19 years old. It was a challenging time right before the Spring High School Volleyball Tournament, but not going was not an option. The team members were surprised to be invited to such a high-level training camp. As expected. Furthermore, Tsukishima was selected to take part in a mock youth training camp in Miyagi Prefecture, gathering top players. The team was quite excited about the two outstanding players being selected.
Hinata Not Selected
Hinata was shocked that he wasn't selected. He felt extremely envious and frustrated for the other two. A few weeks later, training camp began. However, for some reason, Hinata was at the training camp venue. Hinata showed up uninvited. It was cool, but his reckless behavior was quickly noticed by the coach and the Karasuno team members. The coach was furious, but the training camp coach said, "One more ball-picker, that's no big deal."
Position: Picking Up Balls
Thanks to the coach's arrangement, Hinata was able to participate in the training camp. However, his joy was short-lived as the coach harshly rebuked him, saying, "I'll tell you this first. I see no value in you without a setter like Kageyama." Hinata then shouted, "Sorry for interrupting practice! Karasuno High School freshman, Hinata Shoyo! 164cm! Position: Picking Up Balls! Thank you for your help!" And so the training camp began.
The players show up! !!
Hinata was busy at training camp, but he was feeling down after receiving harsh words from his seniors and coach. That's when Tanaka and Nishinoya showed up. They gently patted him on the back and said, "Hey, you, don't be so anxious." His unexpected kindness almost brought him to tears. The second day of training camp began. Hinata was acutely aware of the gap in skill between him and the others, but then the Shiratorizawa players, led by Ushijima Wakatoshi, arrived.
Split Step
Unable to participate in the match, Hinata was busy picking up balls, searching for something he could only do off the court. That's when he discovered the "split step." It refers to the movement of lifting your foot off the ground for a moment at the moment of impact with the ball. Hinata had been practicing it while picking up balls. As he absorbed the players' habits and characteristics, Hinata realized he had been focusing solely on the ball. After the practice match, Hinata returned to his own practice, where he continued picking up balls. However, something had changed about Hinata. Having constantly watched the players from outside the court, he was able to read the toss and predict the course of their opponents' shots.
Highlight 2: The Next Generation's Little Giant, Hosiumi
And with the appearance of Hosiumi Kourai, voiced by Natsuki Hanae, who appears in the fourth season of "Haikyu!!," that means we'll get to see an episode about him. This is sure to be a very welcome event for fans.
What kind of character is he?
Hoshiumi Kourai is a second-year student in Class A at Kamomedai High School, playing the position of wing spiker (WS). Though he's small at 169.2cm tall, he has impressive jumping ability, and Kageyama even says he "jumps higher than Hinata." That's pretty impressive, isn't it? He's also known as the "next generation giant," boasting excellent blocking, receiving, and serving skills. He's apparently active nationwide, so perhaps he'll become even more popular when he appears in Season 4? We're looking forward to seeing him!
"I've known for a long time that I'm weak."
This is a famous quote from Hoshiumi. It's the strength of knowing your weaknesses. It's so cool, isn't it? Hoshiumi has always felt inferior about being the only short member of his family, all of whom are tall. He struggled and felt frustrated by the unbridgeable gap in his height, but through repeated practice, he discovered his own strengths. It's so cool to see him acknowledge and face his weaknesses head-on.
Highlight 3: Miya Atsumu Appears!
This time, the excitement is sure to be even greater with the addition of Miya Atsumu, played by Miyano Mamoru! What kind of character is he?
What kind of character is he?
He's a second-year member of the Inarizaki High School volleyball team, wearing the number 7 jersey. His position is setter, and he's so skilled he's been called the "No. 1 setter in high school." His impressive skills are evident, as evidenced by his invitation to youth training camp. Kenma even calls him "the epitome of a setter." He's also the one who called Kageyama "good boy," a comment that plays a significant role in Kageyama's later development. He's a highly skilled player, able to imitate Kageyama's eccentric fast attack, as well as possessing a powerful spike serve and jump floater. He's won the best server award at the Junior High School Athletic Meet and the Inter-High School Baseball Championship, so he's definitely a player you don't want to face.
What does "Good Boy" mean?
The full meaning of this line is, "By the way, Tobio-kun gave off quite a harsh first impression, but his play is actually quite good." It's a line I can't wait to hear in the anime.
